Justice of the
Montana Supreme Court. He resigned, October 1918 after losing in a preliminary election and enlisted in the U.S. Army's Judge Advocate General Department. Sanner was honorably discharged from the army as a lieutenant colonel and worked at his law practice in Butte, Montana. He later moved to California to better serve his clients. Sanner died in Pacific Palisades, California. At the time, he was reported to have been the oldest practicing attorney in the California Bar Association.
