INCIDENCIAS: En la final, no sólo estaba en juego la Copa de plata del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, sino el prestigio de confirmarse como mejor equipo de España. El compromiso en este desafÃo hizo que de Bilbao fuese una selección local, formada por los mejores jugadores de los dos clubes que existÃan en ese momebo, el Athletic Club y el Bibao FC y que el FC Barcelona echase mano de una triada de extranjeros que defendÃan al subcampeón de la ciudad, el Hispania AC. En definitiva, el Vizcaya no era un club, sino un combinado y el FC Barcelona aparecÃa reforzado, aprovechando que eltorneo era un encuentro amistoso sin supervisión de ningún estamento oficial. Y surgió la primera discusión en nuestro fútbol: el Bizcaya se niega a jugar la final en la fecha y hora fijada alegando que ya ha jugado dos partidos y no ha dispuesto de descanso. El FC Barcelona se oponea ello, pues muchos de sus jugadores tienen necesidad de regresar a su ciudad lo más pronto posible. El Jurado, que ha de dictaminar, recibe la presión bilbaÃna de que si no accede a sus ruegos ellos se retiran. Finalmente, en reunión conjunta entre la organización y jugadores de ambos clubs. se decide que la final se dispute por la tarde. Lo que se escondÃa detrás de este lÃo era que el Bizcaya estaba a la espera de Enrique Careaga. Temiendo que no llegase a la hora del encuentro por la mañana, consiguió retrasarlo a las cuatro de la tarde y asà pudo alinearal defensa del Bilbao FC. El Club Bizcaya vistió con camiseta blanca y pantalón azul y el FC Barcelona con su habitual uniforme azulgrana. Cuentan las crónicas que fue un partido muy disputado y de gran calidad. Los bilbaÃnos consiguieron dos goles en la primera parte lo que obligó alFC Barcelona a mantener su ofensiva durante toda la segunda. Una vez acortada la distancia en el marcador, el acoso contra la porterÃa del Vizcaya fue total, llegándose al final del partido cuando el FC Barcelona estaba lanzado por el empate. El Vizcaya sacó dos corners frente a los 10 delFC Barcelona. Según comentarios, el partido sólo duró 75 minutos. Para algunos cronistas el Vizcaya jugó admirablemente y aunque el FC Barcelona demostró ser bastante más fuerte, fue el equipo bilbaÃno el que se llevó el gato al agua. COPA DE LA CORONACIÓN: La Copa de laCoronación, oficialmente Concurso Madrid de Foot-ball Association, fue una competición futbolÃstica amistosa organizada en 1902 en Madrid como parte de los festejos por el inicio del reinado personal de Alfonso XIII, al alcanzar la mayorÃa de edad. Fue la primera competición futbolÃstica a nivel nacional celebrada en España. Debido a su éxito se decidió organizar un torneo de fútbol con periodicidad anual a partir de 1903, vigente en la actualidad, bautizado como Campeonato de España de Fútbol, también conocido como Copa de S.M. el Rey, al donar el monarca un trofeo para el ganador. El Concurso Madrid se desarrolló entre el 13 y el 16 de mayo de 1902 en Madrid y se proclamó campeón el Bizcaya, un combinado formado por dos equipos bilbaÃnos de fútbol, el Athletic Club y el Bilbao Football Club. Al año siguiente del certamen el Bilbao F. C. serÃa absorbido por el Athletic, conservando este último su nombre original. Por ello, este trofeo se encuentra actualmente en el Museo del Athletic Club, y aunque oficialmente la Real Federación Española de Fútbol no reconoce la Copa de la Coronación en el palmarés dela Copa del Rey, a menudo se cita como la primera edición de dicho torneo, e incluso, el propio Athletic Club, lo reivindica como el primer tÃtulo de Copa de su historia.
