126:«Damos hoy una fotografía de la bandera que hasta hace poco usaban los habitantes de la isla chilena de Pascua, como insignia guerrera. Los colores son los mismos que la nuestra: difiere solo en que sobre el campo azul lleva aquella dos corazones, probablemente los de Jesús y María, una cruz, una mitra i media luna. Bordeando, además, una de las fajas rojas del escudo alcanza á verse la palabra «Jesús», escrita con tinta común. No deja esto de ser curioso, pues muchos que pretenden explicar lo de la cruz y los corazones como la obra de algunos misioneros; pero ¿y lo de la media luna netamente mahometana? Esta bandera estaba, izada al arribo del Baquedano en el desembarcadero de la isla cómo pabellón oficial; el comandante del buque-escuela la hizo arriar y reemplazarla por la verdadera bandera nacional. Traída a Valparaiso ha sido obsequiada al Museo como cosa curiosa, y allí, gracias a la amabilidad del bibliotecario señor Santiago Figueroa, pudimos sacar la fotografía preinserta.»
