Bamberger Löwe, das Hoheitszeichen des Hochstifts Bamberg. Er stand im Wappen des Alt-Landkreises Höchstadt a. d. Aisch und repräsentiert das Höchstadter Gebiet, das bis zur Säkularisation Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts zum Herrschaftsbereich des Bistums Bamberg gehörte. Die Wasserschöpfräder weisen auf die einst zahlreichen Schöpfräder entlang der Regnitz im Alt-Landkreis Erlangen hin, die zum Teil als Kulturdenkmäler auch heute noch in Betrieb sind. Die Farben Gold und Blau sind dem Großen Wappen der ehemaligen Reichsstadt Nürnberg entnommen. Sie verweisen auf das Gebiet um Heroldsberg, das zur Herrschaft der Reichsstadt zählte. Der Schildbord ist dem Wappen der Markgrafen von Brandenburg-Bayreuth entnommen, die neben dem Bistum Bamberg die wichtigsten Herrschaftsinhaber im Kreisgebiet waren. Schöpfräder, der Schildbord und die Farben Gold und Blau waren auch Bestandteile des Wappens des Alt-Landkreises Erlangen.
