Depot provided motive power for much of the passenger and freight traffic on both the ex-Great
Northern East Coast Main Line and the subsidiary main lines to Leeds and to Hull, also for the ex-Great Central Sheffield - Doncaster - Cleethorpes axis and for the great marshalling yards at Doncaster. In mid-1950, the allocation included 5 4-6-2s, 21 4-6-0s, 24 2-6-2s, 6 2-6-0s, 40 2-8-0s, 43 0-6-0s and 43 0-6-0Ts. As the major ex-Great Northern Locomotive Works was also located at Doncaster, this Depot dealt as well with new and repaired locomotives from the Works: two can be seen on the left here, a C12 4-4-2T No. 67391 and A4 Pacific 60010 'Dominion of Canada' with its bell. The Depot closed to steam in 5/66 but has continued as a Diesel Depot.
