Although not much to look at, the remains of a Roman camp which lay slightly to the east of Dere Street can be seen here beyond the roadway. The camp is almost square in shape with rounded corners. It measures some 400m square within a rampart 3.8m wide. and dates from the first century AD Roman occupation of Britain.
