again between 1915 and 1916. During this latter expansion, church leaders chose to dedicate the church as a memorial to all Civil War-era soldiers, and commissioned Civil War orphan C. Day Rudy to paint a mural for the sanctuary which depicted Christ appearing to a fallen soldier. After Rudy completed his work, the painting was donated to the church by the Sixteeners of the Soldiers' Orphan Schools of Pennsylvania. The major local newspaper, the "Harrisburg Telegraph," published this black and white photograph of Rudy's painting on p. 14 of its May 27, 1916 edition.
