At the point where the nose meets the sea the Upper Greensand outcrops - visible as a darker band below the chalk. The boulders in the foreground are fallen debris of the chalk and greensand formations. As its name suggests, the greensand is an olive-green coloured sandstone and often occurs below chalk in Britain.
