154: 485:(Description and comment from M.Dorothy George, 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires in the British Museum', VIII, 1947) Five volumes were published by Tegg from 1807, each volume apparently containing from ninety to a hundred plates. The dates of the earlier volumes are given by tail-pieces, which show that volume 1 was completed on 1 Sept 1807, see BMSats 10916, 11133. This volume probably included the plates (also issued separately) published between 1 Jan. 1807 and that date. For other title-pages see BMSats 10917, 11134, 11135, 11457, 11458. Prints in the magazine include reissues, dated 1 Jan. 1807, of plates published by Roberts, whose imprint is generally obscured or obliterated. These include, besides BMSats 10890-5, BMSat 9809 (uncoloured) with serial number 'N 32', BMSat 10192 (with the date altered from 1807 to 1812 for another reissue), serial number '105'. He also reissued BMSat 9300, 'Durham Mustard . . .' (1798), originally published by J. McQuire (the only pl. in the collection with this imprint). For political plates so reissued see p. 506. 38: 204:
which their heads and shoulders are reflected as if in a mirror. The curtain drops on each side of the central mask to disclose caricature heads, closely grouped, as if in the gallery of a theatre. Those on the left are directed to the right., those on the r. to the left.; a few are women. Most are amused, some scowl, one sleeps, one yawns. On the lower edge of the design, below the feet of the couple holding the prints, are burlesque 'Lilliputian' figures, characteristic of Woodward, see BMSat 9635, &c. They diminish in scale from r. and l. towards the centre, where the curtain touches the base of the design. The two exterior figures (r. and l.) are zanies or pierrots A man stands chapeau-bras looking through his glass at tiny figures at his feet. 1807
