He is a very great loss to us." Lord Raglan, in his despatch of 23 October, described Hood as an excellent officer, and wrote that he was "deeply lamented". 58: 525: 274: 146:(1809–1855) was an English army officer in the British Army, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel of the Grenadier Guards.
