Eventually the Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations and the Kwakiutl First Nation separated into the two groups that are recognized by the federal government to this day. Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations were forcibly relocated from their homelands to a location near Port Hardy.
