In 1972, Herrett forged an agreement with the fledgling College of Southern Idaho to transfer his collections to the College in exchange for the construction of a building on the campus to house them. The Herrett Center museum opened on the CSI campus in 1980, shortly after Herrett's death. The facility featured anthropology galleries and an art gallery.
