He stayed in New York for a few years because of the lengthy court case. During his tenure in New York City, he became a fixture in the local calypso scene and recorded many tracks for 169:. Eventually, he won his court case, but did not receive his settlement check for seven years, so he returned to Trinidad in the meantime.
