106:. After the war's end she was given a scholarship to complete her studies in the United States. Here she met Per Røed, a prolific saboteur from Milorg's District 13, whom she married. Røed and Hjartøy were old acquaintances from secondary school. They coincidentally met again at a Christmas celebration in a cover-up apartment in December 1944. They engaged in 1945, and married in the US in 1947. They lived at Jar. She died in April 2009 and was buried at 73: 98:
