Built around the 17th century, until the 1960s it was the center of the town and had all the public offices later moved to the present town center. The alleys, similar to the previous wards, are made of stone and mostly, narrow and steep. The Petto or Pandosia ward built to the east of the previous one, takes its name from the extreme steepness of its alleys. The houses of the ward lean on each other and almost cling to the steep gable below. The Petto connects the San Filippo ward to the newer Santi Quaranta ward. The Sant'Anna ward was built in the early 1970s along the left bank of the Pescogrosso creek. It was named after the old St. Anne convent, a structure later used as a vocational institute. The Santi Quaranta ward is the most recent in the city, and construction began in the late 1970s. Built on a flat area called the “plain of Santi Quaranta,” it continues eastward along the course of the creek.
