Tlingit "sued for peace" after "48 hours" (surprisingly long time) and the gunboat took 87 of them to Victoria, from which they eventually got back to Alaska. They were warned, apparently by Governor Douglas, never to return to Puget Sound. But in next summer they did, "bent on vengeance for their dead chief".
