As near as I can tell, the process works something like this. Someone inserts material. Right, wrong, or muddled, it isn't sourced. Someone else comes along, is too lazy or busy to correct the material, and decides to slap an "unreferenced" on the whole thing. Then a third person comes along and attempts to deal with the unreferenced tag.

The discussion for removing the "Unreferenced" template just closed with a strong keep. Consensus was that keeping the tag is a "no-brainer", that removing or revising it would be "daft." My own comment was not addressed. Oh well, time to move on with real work. But a comment while I'm still pissed.

I suppose that is why the number of "Unreferenced" pages keeps growing and growing and growing. The 1st person is off adding unsourced material elsewhere on the site; the 2nd person is probably on WP somewhere voting or quarreling with other

The third person's job is the hardest. It's easy to write without sources, and it's even easier to type bracket bracket unreferenced bracket bracket. It's hard to find sources in any case, harder when it's not clear what someone else

or narrow judgments about the dates of plays--or at least it requires making premature or narrow judgments consistently. This is more than a one-person job however.

Hey, I just wanted to say nice job on the "Beast (comics)" article. Great job making it present tense. That one was a tough one. Nice.

But what can be done? Complaining just adds to the main problem with this site: too many template-slappers and not enough fixers.
