forced to follow the natural contours of the terrain or pay for manual labor to chisel and dynamite cuts away one inch at a time, I presume there this route is one of the simpler geographic crossings of the Appalachians. Using the Terrain view of Google Maps this appears to be the case. This appears to be a series of relatively low spots in the various ridges of the Appalachians. That is clearly the case with the Narrows, where US40 Alt appears to be using Wills creek as a guide through the eastern half of the range. It also appears to be routed through a canyon between Frostburg and Allegany Grove, though Google Maps doesn't have a name in this view or the waterway that carved the canyon. The summit (I know that's a western US term, sorry I don't know the appropriate word for Appalachia) is either by the jct with SR-546 or near the the western terminus, both are about 2800 ft per google. Do these summits have a name, is one of these the briefly mentioned Savage Mountain? Is this the highest point along US-40 through the mountains? (It appears so extending outwards on either side, US 40 drops to 1000 ft fairly rapidly. Anyways, you get my point, this is the kind of stuff I like to see for mountain roads.

As currently written the route description is mostly redundant with the major intersections table. I would like to see more content on the geography and notable landmarks etc. As this is the original route of the National Road, built before the advent of earth moving equipment, when roads were

I added mentions of the mountains that Alt US 40 traverses. As it turns out, the highest point is neither Savage Mountain nor Keyser's Ridge, but

though. The image description page says it is on US 40, not ALT US 40, but the article says the opposite. Can you clarify this for me?

I would remove the entry for Savage Mountain in the major intersections, that's the stuff that belongs in the route description IMO.
151:? Btw, this article is titled using a hyphen instead of an endash. You should move it and provide a redirect to the hyphenate title. 219:
though could you reword the intro sentence to paragraph two of the RD, both the first and second paragraphs start with Alt US 40. --

IMo the history section is well written, the rd needs some work, but this is easily do-able. Congrats on a job well done.
