surviving 16 (one was destroyed in a landslide) were sold off in a single lot to a quarry owner in Ohio in 1914 after the canal construction was completed. These dates would disprove the old General Crushed Stone story of this shovel having worked on the canal, since it predates the canal construction. The stories were first reported decades later by the next generation of company managers. It is likely that they confused the talk of 'this is the same kind that was used on the canal' to 'this was used on the canal'. Regardless, it is significant to have the last remaining Model 91 still in existence.
