A mechanic centre was built as a result of expansion of the former Steinberg store that time. As a result, Zellers announced it would temporarily close 12 of its stores in the province for inspection and roof de-icing. In October 1983, Kmart announced that it would close all of its stores in the Montreal area for January 28, 1984 including Ponte-Claire's. In April 1984, it was reported that a Zellers department store would "open shortly in a location vacated by a competitor in the Montreal suburb of Pointe-Claire".
