Berlin–Magdeburg railway

3214: 3244:), the extension of the railway towards Brandenburg over the Havel and on to Magdeburg was very difficult. Directly west of the Potsdam station the line had to cross the Havel and Neustädter Bay, requiring several bridges. In the same section it had to cross the Potsdamer Stadtkanal (Potsdam City Canal, located in the modern Dortustraße), requiring another bridge. The track in this whole section was laid on an embankment. The line from Potsdam Kiewitt (west of Neustädter Bay) to Magdeburg was opened on 7 August 1846, but the Havel crossing was not opened until 12 September 1846, completing the line from Berlin to Magdeburg. 3435: 144: 3378: 3118: 3194: 1501: 1368: 1089: 901: 509: 362: 3206: 2923: 2364: 2202: 1899: 1801: 1516: 1298: 1252: 1152: 377: 3306: 2712: 2667: 2256: 2095: 676: 3022: 2984: 2857: 2597: 2331: 2149: 1728: 1631: 1354: 1274: 599: 2660: 2629: 1227: 406: 36: 3029: 2822: 2815: 2751: 2744: 2622: 1952: 1752: 1540: 1451: 1444: 1347: 2991: 2959: 2930: 2898: 2864: 2829: 2790: 2758: 2705: 2583: 2338: 2071: 1850: 1475: 1203: 1127: 1104: 1075: 951: 795: 735: 632: 524: 319: 2551: 2516: 2484: 2452: 2420: 2388: 2357: 1976: 1680: 1320: 1178: 1043: 983: 922: 888: 856: 827: 766: 705: 639: 606: 570: 563: 531: 486: 479: 452: 445: 413: 348: 3015: 2674: 2636: 2590: 2230: 2124: 2000: 1704: 1609: 1564: 1415: 1383: 1068: 1036: 1007: 944: 915: 881: 820: 788: 759: 728: 613: 577: 493: 2952: 2891: 2783: 2698: 2558: 2523: 2491: 2459: 2427: 2395: 2306: 2283: 2177: 2046: 2023: 1927: 1874: 1825: 1776: 1655: 1584: 1482: 1422: 1390: 1014: 976: 849: 698: 669: 538: 459: 420: 384: 3325:

In addition electric railcars operating on the long-distance lines continued as steam hauled suburban trains along the direct route to Potsdam without going through Wannsee.

the Griebnitzsee border control station on the main railway was expanded for transit between East and West Berlin, with substantial changes to track work. The restoration of the second track between Magdeburg and Werder was completed in 1976. In 1983 the second track was restored to the section between Werder and Berlin-Wannsee.

It built a new line between Burg and Magdeburg, crossing the ridge of the Hohen Fläming in Moser and the Herrenkrug Railway Bridge and abandoning the old line from Burg via Niegripp, Hohenwarthe, Lostau and Gerwisch. 3715:
Since then, however, the premises have changed significantly, as both Berlin and Potsdam as well as Kleinmachnow/Teltow/Stahnsdorf are experiencing strong population growth, and the line would also effectively relieve the now overloaded Berlin Stadtbahn.
