In later years, the station became very dilapidated and run-down, and suffered a sharp fall in passenger numbers after the introduction of buses to the area in the 1920s. The loading bank was cut back and was out of use by the mid-1930s. The station closed in 1952 when the Vacuum Oil Company bought up the Coryton refinery and discontinued the passenger services. 215:
