It was in the course of these excavations that the wood of the cross was recovered. It remains in the centre of the church for nearly a week (the Fourth Week of Great Lent). On the Monday and Wednesday of that week, a veneration of the Cross takes place at the 900:), a feast which continues for several days thereafter.
