as piano sonatas. Stevenson worked on van Dieren's String Quartet No 5 over a period of 40 years (from 1948 to 1987), transcribing it "as a piano sonata (which B.v.D. never composed)". There is also a collection of piano solos based on songs from the 19th and 20th centuries entitled
