center. America’s entrance into World War II prompted the drafting of men to fill the military’s soldier needs as soon as possible. Unfortunately, some of these men had difficulty in adapting to military life, leading to outbreaks of AWOL (Absent Without Leave) and insubordinate soldiers. A center was needed to “rehabilitate” these men and return them to duty. This was accomplished with additional basic training as well as a camp psychiatrist and sociologist.
