Sutra" book ? I haven't read it yet, but it appears to be a book being quite centered on the idea of giving women sexual pleasure. I wonder mainly about the fact that it is so much centered around women ... Apart from the fact that there are´hardly ever texts´surviving or written (or both) by women from ancient times (the question whether women were educated enough, repressed not to write, or even not thought to be "worthy" of being published within any patriachal culture is a completely different question), I don't ever remember a women having written - even in modern times - a book like this. The question I have is simple : Why is this ? If the goal of
Feminism - which I'm trying to follow as well - is to bring both women and men to a point where both are equal - apart from physics - then I do wonder why men are so often writing on certain themes and women not so much. Or, to say it in different words : Why are books on some topics written rather by members of one gender and not so much by members of another gender ? Where does this focus come from and why does it still remain during contemporary times ? One example is that songs one can hear on the radio are often about women (love songs, for example) when the songs are made by men, but there are far fewer songs made by women which have men as their mein theme. I only know very few women who did actual love songs about men. Another really weird thing I noticed at one point is that there are so many music bands consisting of men doing the actual music with a woman as the singer - but I do not know a single music band which has women doing the actual music with a man as the singer. I never understood why this is so. Same with the Kama Sutra : It is ancient - written at a time, I assume, when there were few women writing texts which survived until now, no matter why (I assume "writing women" were simply not wanted by men), but from all ancient literature I know - and I do know only very little of that - I have never seen a text written by a woman centered on the idea of giving a man sexual pleasure. It might have been "transferred knowledge" - which was never written down - among women, I could imagine. In a men-centered society, this might not even be wanted by men - no matter why - but if I turn this around by 180 degrees, I do wonder why men are so much centered on the idea of giving a man sexual pleasure. I mean, it's literally one-sided, it seems to me. Men are supposed to be active - because being able to perform active deeds is often considered as a sign of manhood - meanwhile women are often shown to be rather passive. - The underlying question is : Is being passive something preferable in terms of sexual intercourse ? And I wonder why this is so in literature even today - with few exceptions. Why there is no "female equivalent" of the Kama Sutra ? And what do women think about why the Kama Sutra is focussing so much on women ? - Additional note : Lysistrata, although a heavily women-centered story, was even written by a man. (Edit : I bet I get a few "facepalms" by people after reading my text here because I'm so much uneducated ... ;) )
