Talk:List of downloadable songs for the Rock Band series/Archive 1

Franchise. Meaing there will one day be a RB3/4/5 etc...... Spin-offs like AC/DC, the Beetles, and LEGO will continue to occur. And in those instances should be handled on a case by case basis. For example, AC/DC can not handle DLC, however, with a code the tracks can be downloaded to rockband or rb2 (you dont actually rip the songs from the disc, you download them from the server), you do need to purchase the game new or used from someone who didnt use their code. Most likely, the Beetles wont allow this, but will be able to handle special DLC, however it is speculated that this special DLC would also be available for RB and RB2. Again though, would have to wait and see.

be able to cover every user-loaded song. Our current music tracks are "filtered" in importance in the sense that this is what HMX has determined to be important to be distributed. So in the same way, when they select what songs from the 360 RBN go to the PS3 and Wii, they're filtering there too, and thus that's a measure of importance. Now, take the example of a top band that puts their own work into RB, say, someone like Green Day putting up Dookie. While its immediate release on RBN on the 360 will not meet our metric, it is very hard to believe it will not be filtered to the PS3 and Wii versions. --
31: 4268:←I mean the discussion didn't go anywhere at all. You took my edit out just because "this promotion doesn't introduce any previously unreleased content". Since when does a promotion (and you don't deny that this is, indeed, a promotion. You said it yourself) need to introduce new content to be listed under "Promotions?" The introduction to "Promotions" says "Following the release of 4394:. This is definately going to require inclusion in the "Series" article, and I'm thinking we should begin discussions NOW on how to begin addressing this type of content in list form. Honestly, my proposal is an entirely seperate article along the lines of "List of user-created content for the Rock Band series" (perhaps including an official name if HMX gives it one). -- 185:) 06:29, 19 March 2009 (UTC) Just as an outside tip: My site has been including youtube videos forever, and let me assure you it's waaaaay more work than you want to maintain. Lots of videos got wiped by Warner Music a while back, and I'm still finding broken videos, or ones changed to private. Long story short, it's a logistical nightmare. - Chris from rbdlc.com 4294:
means OTHER THAN the standard Music Store or Online Shop. Be it a disc at retail (OXM), a pack in with a CD (Disturbed, Pearl Jam), or a sticker on a DVD case (Spectacular!). What's NOT included are promotions where you simply get MS/PSN codes to go to the online store and buy the song (Stride Promo, Star Trek Promo). --

number of wikilinks be helpful? Currently we wikilink EVERY artist/album title even if it shows up multiple times. I don't know if that would speed up loading. Also, would using templates potentially speed things up? Current there are a TON of "span" tags. Switching to "sort" may help. I'm open to ideas. --
1395:, you'll see that it's OK for lists to be long, as long as they are well organized and there is a reason for them to be listed on one page (ie. this page's need for sortability by song title, band, etc.). So I don't see any need to split it. It's not like browsers nowadays can't handle 100KB worth of text. - 4546:
posting that. I still think having a separate article to document the RBN content would be best; it lets us not overload an already massive page here, and we wouldn't be dividing up the content arbitrarily, as the video (at creators.rockband.com) shows the Music Store being a separate entity from the
4323:
Ok, I was a little confused. I thought this article listed all ways users could get DLC, and that Pepsi's thing was unique, the first of its kind. Turns out Energizer has a similar promotion but that isn't mentioned either. I'm glad the Pepsi stuff got a mention in the main RB article, though. I just
3440:
It's because IP posters, and newer users often try and use this as a forum, which can lead to comments and discussions getting "bumped" by somebody who didn't know how to open a new section. Other times I think it's related to users forgetting to sign comments, and then the MisaBot not being able to
3380:
Two problems: first, the metal songs are only confirmed by a leaked achievement list - not really strong candidates for inclusion yet, though it's probably not wrong. Second, unlike the Country pack where we know that exclusive songs to that pack will make it to RB, we don't have confirmation of this
1281:
some indexes that have symbols and numbers come before the first "A" entry. I'll concede that point. I'll also update the page so that the articles "a" and "the" don't affect sorting. For sorting of artists names, however, we're still in disagreement, and I think we're at an impasse. I understand
1250:
I think I have to agree with Travis on this. Yes, it is true that our primary source of information and so if there is contention regarding spelling, years, etc we default to what is presented in game and on Harmonix's website. But this is still an encyclopedia article and the way we sort should be
4470:
Again, we have to be careful here. Take any non-music game, and unless the soundtrack itself is a published work, we consider that to be indiscriminate. We don't report every published Flash game or every Xbox Live Community/Indie game. In this same vein, we are not going to realistically going to
4293:
This is not promotional content. This is a code to allow you to download the song through the normal XBL/PSN. Heck, Wii users don't even get a song, they get Wii points to buy whatever they want. If you take a look at the Promotions section, each of those is a pack of songs made available through
3578:
I believe this has been discussed before. It was decided against just because the tiering for songs in Rock Band 1 is different than in Rock Band 2. Besides that, how far should this go? Should we have 5 more columns so that we can have Band/Guitar/Bass/Vocals/Drums tiers? We have to stop somewhere.
2726:
The album Abbey Road has been announced to be released for DLC It has no mention of being exclusive to The Beatles Rock Band and the fact that "All You Need Is Love" has been stated as a Beatles only song suggests that the lack of this sentence after the Abbey Road announcement shows Abbey Road will
2311:
Usually how I get to this page is by searching for "downloadable rock band songs", but that always results in the search engine popping up with this one as the first link. Could someone with access (I'm not autoconfirmed) add "Downloadable Rock Band songs" as a redirect? If not, could you tell me if
1922:
a part of the Rock Band series, but does not share the same DLC lineup (presumably, seeing as the charting for the songs are different for the PSP as opposed to the consoles), I see it as having two options. One, the same route as is currently used to signify the DLC that's available for the Wii, in
1893:
I've already spotted and fixed a few inconsistencies within the article, but I have to admit I'm still not a fan of those. Especially when the one or two users who were really adamant about altering the sort method didn't bother to see it through in other articles for the same game. So now we have
1657:
Look I know I am nit picking a bit but most of the famous cranberries stuff was from early to mid 90's. It's listed on the wiki as being in the 2000's which is about 10 years shy of when Linger was released :) Just figured I'd point that out, if in fact anyone cares because let's face it's not that
1027:
My proposed change would be to move them to when they became available on the Wii, and modify the footnote so that it's more clear that these are actually only available as promotional content for 360 and PS3 owners at this time. It would line up with the HMX Pack (which is listed by the date it was
211:
One of the most useful sections of this article, "Upcoming Songs", is sequestered at the end of an ever-increasing list. As it is the only section I personally visit this article for anymore, I find it rather annoying to have to wait for the list to load (which can sometimes take a while for me for
4488:
This is all assuming that RBN gets flooded with content. I think we need to take a few weeks once it gets rolling to get a feel for how releases will be distributed. If it gets to a point where there's just too much to track without creating a massive article, we may have to do as Masem suggested
4305:
More specifically, this article is about the songs made as DLC. The promotions section is to discussion songs that are available exclusively (time-limited or not) through promotions that add to the DLC content. Actual promotions that tie in with RB regardless if they add new songs or not should be
4012:
The mobile version of this page needs to have a "Show" button for the Upcoming Songs list (break the upcoming songs list out to a new section away from the available songs list). This will allow users to click the "Show" button to see Upcoming Songs only and not have to wait for the 500+ song list
2166:
things are made available on the Wii, like a separate release date column or something along those lines. Right now, the only way to know if one has recently been updated for Wii is to scroll down, make a note of which ones are checked and which aren't, and then check back to see if any of them now
675:
The Rock Band franchise is growing. Assuming these games are not compatible with current DLC offerings, does the name of this article (List of downloadable songs for the Rock Band series) still apply? It probably would, but what if the Beatles game has its own DLC (it is heavily rumored)? Or the
1265:
Considering how many random edits we get in a week from people adjusting the artist names, song names, genres, decades, etc...I can't imagine the headache that will come when people start having trouble finding songs in the list. For example "666" sorting as "Six Six Six", or "30 Seconds to Mars"
4500:
Partially agreed; I don't think we're looking at a launch that will have hundreds of songs right out of the gate. Also, keep in mind that the term "user-uploaded tracks" is somewhat inaccurate; there's a difference between, say, you or I uploading songs, or a small record company uploading songs.
4455:
That isn't necessarily true. It's possible within a few weeks of the launch of Rock Band Network that we get an entire discography from one of the more giving artists. (Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Megadeth) They will obviously all be up for download on the 360, but I seriously doubt ALL of the
3650:
For the songs listed on this page that have no wiki pages of their own, could we instead link to the album page for the song? This would be useful for people who want more information on the song... currently they have to click the Band link, go to Discopgraphy, then check each album one-by-one.
3255:
Recently there's been a few users who update the Genre/Decade info based on Knowledge (XXG) or what they say "Everybody knows". Well, consulting the No Doubt tracks, it's obvious that HMX doesn't always use the same information that's considered globally accepted. So please do not add this info
2886:
I also agree it should be placed back up. There was a reason it was placed in the first place - this situation is reminiscent of the Pick Up The Pieces leak although not in the same vein. There is no reason for Pepsi to put up songs that did not have actual placement in the Rock Band game series.
1926:
Of course, there's time on this; we don't know how much DLC will be released on Unplugged, or when it will start (although it's supposedly planned to have releases of DLC every few weeks, much like the console versions). I'd personally like to help out on this part, but being a bit of a Knowledge
1123:
After five days and hearing no objection, including none from TRTX, I've been bold and made the change to song titles. There's a bug in the sort template that's adding something that looks like a space between the opening quotation mark and the song title (e.g., " The Conjurer"), but the space is
304:
My only qualm, and this is with any article that does this, is that I have to scroll to get to the table of contents. THe intro section seems to be rather long. Maybe a short intro paragraph and then a section after the Table of Contents with most of the information we have there now? I am not
3682:
Or more specifically, 99% of the time, a song lacking its own page will only be listed in the album's discography and really gives no new information. Now, if there is actually a section about the song on the album's page (kept there due to lack of notability), I see no problems linking to that
333:
I have made a few edits to try and rearrange stuff to make the ToC easier to find when the page loads. No data was removed, just cut/pasted. If there's any objections feel free to revert or reword. Also, it may be time to try and think of ways to make the page load faster. Would trimming the
1961:
Because the content for Unplugged (in terms of files, not so much songs) is not cross-platform, we will likely have a separate page that combines the on-disc setlist and the DLC lists (I doubt RBU will end up with 600+ songs), and the current list for the console versions will remain untouched.
1157:
is what I'm referring to. The goals of these articles is to present the information as it appears in-game. This is why alternate title formats, artist names, and other assorted information that is often protested (Genre/Decade for example) is presented as is. This includes the sorting of the
1834:
They will be tomorrow. As per announcement. Since that column is the only one we have available for noting Wii releases, we typically update it the day the Wii tracks are announced (Since it's the day before). If they start updating further ahead we will obviously need another solution. --
752:
Wait and see if the best method. But if Beetles and LEGO dont use the main DLC, I see no reason to change this listing. For example, Rock Band AC/DC does not support DLC, yet is a standalone game. I think the best way to address this is that this aricle represents the main of the Rock Band
176:
Just a general comment, but the main idea behind this is that while Knowledge (XXG) is edited and maintained by anyone that wants to contribute, it does not just become whatever those people want. It is first and foremost an encyclopedia. There have been guidelines set up that aim to direct
2806:
on Pepsi's contest page. "Mony Mony" and "Rebel Yell" are included. Those who have read the full list confirm these are the only two "new" songs listed on the page. What's the consensus on these? I lean towards inclusion since Pepsi gets it's info for the contest straight from HMX... --
1901:
With this in mind, I am reverting the "The"less sorting on song titles from this article. The consensus on this page seemed pretty weak to begin with, and nothing has come of it in other similiar articles, which leads me to the conclusion that the consensus was never firmly established. --
3067:
I find it very annoying that the songs for Wii don't ACTUALLY come out when they are supposed to. That's not the fault of anyone here, that's the fault of Harmonix. I'm probably not the only Wii owner pained to have to wit until the 11th to buy a song that comes out the 9th. The agony.
1897:
Furthermore, I have yet to see any similiar recommendation within the Guitar Hero series of articles...which have been around for much longer than anything related to Rock Band. And since those lists have reached Featured status I again question the legitimacy of the sorting request.
1503:"Well we got no class... and we got no principals... and we got no innocence..." but we DO have Alice Cooper DLC coming out next week! This announcement is exclusive to the Community Zine! Check out the track listing for this six song pack, including some epic live recordings: 1023:
I'm starting to think it's not accurate to put the 20 free songs in the table as they are. The description is that the table is when the songs first became available via the music store. They still are not in the 360/PS3 store, and were only released for the Wii a short time ago.
1266:
sorting as "Thirty Seconds to Mars". I think it's going to lead to a LOT of confusion when people start seeing "missing" songs. I could see "A" and "The" like we already do, but I think doing Last, First and alphabetic sorting of numerics is going a bit far in this article. --
1178:
But really, for procedural purposes, are you truly saying that the songs should sort in the same badly designed method that the Official List uses? Specifically, are you forwarding the argument that the following is an example of the best way to sort these songs in this article?
732:
I realized that as I was writing this here. I tend to do that. I think of something that could be a problem for an article, and then want to run to the talk page before we have enough information to even do anything about it. Oh well, we will just have to wait and see.
2235:
One idea I had, could we put something in the "Available for Wii" box when the song has been announced for the following week? Like a blue dot or something? I dunno. I don't have any use for the Wii list anyway, but it might be a temporary fix for a temporary problem.
142:
Going along the "proper" side of things - Knowledge (XXG) is an encyclopedia. Youtube videos for all songs are more for fan sites like scorehero.com. I agree that having a place to watch the charts in a YT vid would be nice, but it's just not appropriate for here.
1376:
Split the list into two articles, one with the releases of 07-08 and one with the releases on 09 and the upcoming releases. And saying that could make it confusing for the songs on Wii is just dumb because you could still use the exact same method we're using now.
1923:
an additional column on the list. (the downside to this being, release dates will need to be listed separately.) The other option, that I can see at least, would be to create a second article for the Unplugged DLC, with a link to it at the top of this article.
452:
Yeah I know. It's just weird seeing TBD. It's not a commonly used acronym. TBA is used for pretty much everything that is announced but doesn't have a date. Movies, music, video games, they are all labeled TBA until a date is announced. It's just weird to see.
215:
Would there be any merit to moving the "Upcoming Songs" section to the top of the article? A more ambitious but consistent change might be to switch the ordering of the entire page (so that newest available songs are located at the top instead of the bottom).
1480:
I've added the reference directly to the table for the time being. This is so that the original announcement is basically "overruled" and clearly spelled out in the article. This can probably be moved to the normal spot once this week's content is out. --
1065:
Today, I made a similar sorting change, and he reverted it, with the comment "Songs are sorted as presented in game." I appreciate the hard work TRTX continues to put into this page, and can understand the desire to make this page a near duplicate of HMX's
2422:
Harmonix, Pearl Jam, and Best Buy have all said that the 3 songs would be in the music store eventually so would someone please add "Alive (Live: Drop In the Park)", "Brother", and "State of Love & Trust (Live: Drop In the Park)" to the upcoming DLC?
1070:, but I don't see the benefit in duplicating clear errors in their sorting methodology. If you look in any library, any record store, and any book index, you'll almost always find authors, artists, and other named individuals sorted by last name. The 709:
I agree with the "wait and see" approach. There's very little evidence about what will and will not be supported by the games (Lego Rock Band was announced all of 3 days ago), so there's no point trying to second-guess what we should or shouldn't do.
3710:
DLC can include both singles and full albums, we have to be careful what we link to. If somebody clicks a song title and sees a full album, it could mislead the reader to think that the downloadable item is a full album instead of a single song. --
4673:
The article says it's arriving "the same day" as the album in retail stores. Thing is, Backspacer is set to release September 20th, which is a Sunday. September 22nd (which is the nearest Tuesday) as a date for the Rock Band version seems likely.
4342:, not through the "Music Store or Online Shop," that I'm aware of. The Spectacular promotion mentions "receiving promotional codes which could be redeemed to download the songs," which sounds like the exact situation with Pepsi. Again, just FYI. -- 2859:
It was likely removed from the Pepsi page because it was a mistake in the first place. I assume Pepsi was supposed to add those to the list once Harmonix officially confirmed them, but they screwed up and added them early. I say we put it back.
2636:
We cannot be sure if this would be the actual title of the song, we follow exactly what Rock Band states. So far, the songs are followed exactly according to the newsletter. We'll wait until this Friday how Harmonix would actually pronounce the
2544:
The thread provides no link to the source. And it was back in January. If a credibile source is found other than somebody on a forum saying they saw it, then it is maybe a candidate. But I think this conversation has come up in the past. --
4436:
My suggestion, because this is user-created content, that every song uploaded on the 360 side will not be significant. However, those that pass the bar that get also sent to the PS3 and Wii stores should be considered important for inclusion.
3268:
On the Rock Band website, it says the Evanescence tracks came out in 2004 and 2006. It also says the Spinal Tap tracks are from a new album, meaning that they also came out in the 2000s. The Rock Band website is already listed as a source.
1518:
Next week also marks the release of the Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock disc, so there's plenty of new stuff for everyone to choose from. Be sure to check out the Announcements forum over at RockBand.com for more details. Rock on!
4102:
I'd actually be okay with removing the Promotions section entirely, or spinning it out to the game's article. This article is a list of songs, and I don't think we need to document every little thing (here) that is peripherally related.
1618:
I noticed the date for the country pack songs still says TBD but the release date has been posted on RockBand.com as July 21, 2009 just thought I'd post a comment so this can be changed. Here's a link to the annoucement to verify:
2070:
Also, it appears that older songs that had been available for XBOX and PS3 only are now becoming available for Wii (Foreigner's Jukebox Hero, etc.) Are there plans to do this with more songs that are currently only Xbox and Ps3?
850:
is it posible to use a colspan so instead of repeating the band name 10 times during an album it only says it once and also condece the exported setlist so all track packs that support the swithch are listed under one bullet?
691:
Best to wait and see. If, say, TB:RB has DLC that works in both games, but other existing DLC doesn't work in TB:RB, this page is still valid, we just have to spell it out and likely have a special section for TB:RB songs.
239:
the table of contents makes the upcoming songs section available in a single click. Not sure if i see the need to move it to the top too. Also the list is sortable by release date so the newest songs can be brought up to the
2250:
We're talking about a list of downloadable songs, not turning the template into some sort of news source. Outside of documenting when songs were first released (regardless of platform), I don't think we need to do anything.
1568:
I see the tracks have been added, but there is a typo. "Vengeance Is Mind" should be "Vengeance Is Mine". I would fix it but am unable to edit. You also have the track pack name and release dates in the wrong columns. ;)
2167:
have a checkmark. I just think it would be easier to have something where you click and it shows the most recent or least recent for Wii, like it does with the regular dates. At least temporarily, until the Wii catches up.
4599:
These are songs that are introduced to Rock Band Unplugged or the Country Track Pack that HMX has stated will be eventually DLC on Rock Band itself, but not confirmed when. Thus, they remain TBD as to their release date.
4527:
Well, they stated that the RBN wouldn't go public until it had a large amount of content available from the beta period. Technically, when songs first become available publicly, there could easily be hundreds of songs.
3826:
they have a metal track pack coming to rock bond (says the wikiarticle) and one of the songs is heir of the dog by nazereth. This means that it is coming for dlc for rock band, that shoud be included in this article.
1175:. I agree that for columns such as "genre" and "decade" should stick with the Official List. In fact, I'd agree with this for all substantive content-related questions -- the Official List is the authoritative source. 361:
I've gotten rid of some of the "span" tags, replacing them with the "sort" template, but there's more to do. I didn't do it for pageload issues -- just because it seems like it was the right thing to use for sorting.
346:
I like how it was re-arranged just by taking a quick look. As far as loading, I am not so sure that is a big problem. Maybe we can take a poll, but this page loads just as fast as other wikipedia articles for me.
4583:
On the upcoming song list, for a while there has been the likes of 3 Doors Down and people like that all with TBD for months now, what is the situation with them? Are there plans to come out soon, or still waiting?
288:
To add to what harlock said, the primary focus of the article is the list itself, not the upcoming songs. For the user, the primary goal of reading this article is to see what's already there vs. what's coming. --
3754:
Early reports on the RB forums are that the Wii was updated with more than the announced tracks. I'm waiting for some confirmation, though it may only be in the form of visual confirmation from a Wii owner. --
2746:
Everything said about the songs in the TB:RB make it sound like the game's songs cannot be played in RB or vice versa. Until there's confirmation that this is wrong, it is not appropriate to include them here.
71: 66: 2778:
Can you provide a citation for this confirmation? If you cannot, then this issue is still up in the air, and the respective comment stating their incompatibility should be removed from the Exported Setlists
109:
I would love to add links to youtube videos. Often I'm not sure whether I know the song or not, so I have to google/youtube it to be sure. I think I'm not alone with that problem. What do you guys think?
4129:, it's really good information. In fact, I wanted the Pepsi thing mentioned because it's a really cool promotion. I won six songs from six caps and I drink Pepsi anyway, so it saved me a little money. -- 3888:"The Green Day tracks available next week are the first in an exclusive partnership between MTV Games’ Harmonix and Warner Music Group’s Green Day to bring the band’s songs to the Rock Band platform as 3593:
It got a point where there was too much information to track. And a consensus was reached that there was more important information (genre/decade) that would benefit more than just RB players. --
2953:
Who said Colbert is available for Wii? Shouldn't the things be changed when they become true? Currently, it's not available for download on Wii. If it's reported that it's going to be, put that. --
2386:
No need to add that they're going to have DLC coming, otherwise, we'd have to add Snoop Dogg is coming too. Regarding the leaked list, shouldn't add that until there's at least some confirmation.
1918:
With Rock band Unplugged soon to be released (a few days from the time of this edit), and DLC to be released for that game as well, what changes will need to be made to this article? As Unplugged
305:
familiar with the normal policies with these things. I too have the loading problem, but there is not much we can do about that. More recent things tend to be on the bottom of articles anyway.
3530:
We've got the pack in the Packs section, if that includes these artists...we'll see on Friday. But I think we're jumping to assumptions by saying that TDWP and Thrice will for sure be in it. --
125:
As most youtube videos of this type are copyright violations (not uploaded by the persons holding the IP), we can never link to them. Nor would it be proper to do so even if they were legit. --
1771:
The list of downloadable songs for wii is NOT accurate. there are actually many songs listed as available here that in fact are not; this has been verified by myself and several Bandmates.
2134:
Should there maybe be a way to see when things come out for the Wii, like a Wii-Release column or something? I'm not exactly sure how one would go about making that, but it's a possibility.
3496:
I saw a commercial for the Spinal Tap pack which stated it was available for Wii. Be on the lookout for this update, and probably for Evanescence too, since that pack came out with the ST.
2273:
Agreed. The Rock Band site/forums is the news source, if anyone feels it's necessary to follow any/all news they can subscribe to the Announcements forum and the Rock Band e-magazine. --
971:
There's not enough info to go with in this article anymore, especially with how old it is. Just putting "The rest of Who's Next" and "6 more Grateful Dead songs" isn't strong enough. --
47: 17: 4697: 212:
whatever reason) and then scroll for what seems like ages in this era of instant gratification. And as I alluded, the problem will only get worse as the "Available Songs" list grows.
2988:
And the fact that it's a one-day delay between the time the Wii stuff is announced and it appears in the store is not really cause to not post the new Wii songs when they're known. --
2566:
and with regards to the latter, it was already released as DLC in I believe 8 January 2008 according to our list, so is that an error? Why release the same song twice? Sincerely, --
4186:
What do you mean "didn't go anywhere". Do you mean "didn't go where you wanted"? I've reverted the change, as this promotion doesn't introduce any previously unreleased content. --
3515:
Both those bands are listed as being part of the Warped Tour DLC so it's safe to assume that they'll be coming out next week in the VWT2 pack. So I added them under upcoming DLC.--
3130:
Just announced on the official forums. 21 Guns, Know Your Enemy, East Jesus Nowhere. All coming on July 7th. Can't get the link because I'm at work but I got the tweet on my phone.
1289:
One factor you didn't address is punctuation within a title. Should "D.O.A." and "DOA" sort so far apart? Should "B.Y.O.B." appear at the start of the B's instead of near the end?
