874:. The churches themselves prefer to use the term "kansankirkko" (people's church) and therefore deny being state churches, but this is only semantics. Legally they have a position as state churches, state for instance collect tax for them (kirkollisvero, clerical tax). In state owned schools there is obligatory religion classes to the members of these churches. The conscripts who are members of a state church are obligated to swear a military oath to a military priest, part of the church but working in the army. Etc. Other religions have some rights, too, but they don't have an official position except that they are in the register of religious communities. --
