In 1961 Calvert underwent major overhaul at the naval shipyards in Bremerton Washington. She received upgrades to her sonar and radar as well as diesel generators and boiler replacement. Her hull was blasted and repainted making Calvert battle-ready for assignment with Conphibron 5, and 7th Fleet
