In Knowledge we don't need to credit people like Hirth and Tullis unless they themselves have made some very important finding that deserves mention, and it is enough to refer to their research in a reference. In Knowledge this is a bit of a different style to an essay. In Knowledge try to cover all the relevant or important facts. But no need to try to interpret the significance of the references. I myself have trouble with this as I can only read a few papers to summarize in an article, and not every thing on the topic. If you can get review articles or articles that have been widely referenced by others then they are good ones to go with.
