From the Judges

The start of Round 2 has been in some respects an explosive one, with one user in particular almost in the triple figures after just a week. There are obviously contestants with no points or very few, but as it is so early in the round this can probably be excused. Keep it up everyone!

Note that due to unforeseen circumstances, Mitchazenia has been eliminated from the contest. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

CNY Road pics

I got the NY 321, Forward Road and NY 92 pics yesterday. Couldn't get a good church pic with the traffic when I was nearby, but I will soon. I thought I'd be able to upload the road pics tonight, but something popped up I need to do. I should get to it later this week.  :) Lvklock (talk) 21:04, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

They're here . The church pics are still in the camera. I'll add them to the same page at commons soon. Lvklock (talk) 03:34, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Church pics are there, now. Lvklock (talk) 01:03, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I finally got out to Marcellus to the NY 174X bridge you asked for. I just added three to . Lvklock (talk) 23:21, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Perspective

Mitchazenia, if you're under stress just get away from the place for a while. Giving up the admin bit was a sensible move; my own Knowledge (XXG) experience has been much more enjoyable since doing so myself. Back off, chill out, whatever it takes to regain your equilibrium. Remember -- this is just a web site, not real life. Short Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 02:15, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Living in the area

It's a shame about the photos. Unfortunately, I may live in northwestern Pennsylvania, but I go to college in southeastern Pennsylvania. However, I am eventually planning on a trip back to the bridge to expand the panorama of the Kinzua Valley and will have to see about going down PA 646 and taking some photos. -- D.B. 01:19, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Exit 7 on RI 4

Yup, they finally constructed it; it has been open since December. The "No Exit 7" sign was taken down in December and replaced with a standard "Exit 7, 1/2 mile" sign. Cheers, Raime 13:37, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of County Route 174A (Sullivan County, New York)

I have nominated County Route 174A (Sullivan County, New York), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Knowledge (XXG)'s criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Knowledge (XXG):Articles for deletion/County Route 174A (Sullivan County, New York). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Wikis Take Manhattan 3

Thanks for the offer of help. Assistance with the lists would be fantastic. One thing I really want to do with WTM 3 is make things a lot simpler and easier for people to replicate in other cities. If we give some thought to it beforehand, I think we can really streamline the process, and I hope we can do this starting with Knowledge (XXG) Takes Philadelphia (still working on a final date for that one).--Pharos (talk) 22:28, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

The Finger Lakes Portal

An update on progress

One more T:DYK, and then I think Portal:Finger Lakes will be ready for WP:PPREV to get some feedback on it, and then after that to WP:FPORTC. There is a list of redlinks from whence to draw ideas for a new article for a T:DYK listed at Portal:Finger Lakes/Things you can do, lemme know if you create one, or else I will probably get to it soon. Hope you are doing well, Cirt (talk) 12:24, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Okay I added another relevant DYK, so we are all set. I started a peer review at Knowledge (XXG):Portal peer review/Finger Lakes/archive1, I'll let that run for a little while. Cirt (talk) 13:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

GA review

It seems someone has taken issue with my review of State Route 314 (New York – Vermont), mainly because the article is missing information regarding NY 314 in the history section. I have asked Rschen7754 about what I should do, and whether I should place the article on hold, take back the promotion and let someone else revew it... or what. He has yet to come up with an answer. Meanwhile, I would suggest that you try to rectify the situation by adding the appropriate information. If the information is unavilable, then I think the best option would be for both of us to agree that the article is not GA-quality and to demote the article until the information can be found. I am only human, and I made a mistake. I was too busy analyzing what was there, and failed to notice what was missing. I wont dwell on the fact that whoever pointed out this fact could've done so in a more civilized manner, but I will say his point was valid. Let me know what you think we should do. --ErgoSum88 (talk) 00:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Re:The Chesapeake City, MD roads

I did not known you were working on a GT for Chesapeake City roads, I picked MD 213 by coincidence for the County Challenge. A fair warning on MD 284: it is a very short road (0.25 mi), and many roads of similar length, even longer, are often included at List of minor Maryland state highways rather than having standalone articles. In fact, I recently merged a few short routes into the list. Dough4872 (talk) 22:45, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Kentucky Route 2014 Bridge

Updated DYK query On May 11, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kentucky Route 2014 Bridge, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Gatoclass (talk) 10:55, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Hallo. I've translated your article into German. However I had some problems with the very last paragraph which seems to be truncated somewhat:
(...) which is created through a sectional, eight-sided cast iron columns bolted at each point. The bridge also has a rather unusual flooring. Made out of wood truss beams, they are pin connected and support lighter weights, but has greater strength.
  1. in the first sentence an issue of grammar, likely "a" or "columns" not matching, maybe missing word.
  2. the sentence is difficult to understand: what is bolted at each point? (which point?)
  3. wrong case in last sentence (they are ... but has) or missing words?
  4. actually the reader wonders about the contradiction ... "support lighter weights" vs. "greater strength"
I hope you can clarify that. TIA, --Matthiasb (talk) 19:48, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

FA road articles

Per your comment that "you wrote" many of these FA articles Ive complained about I would like to invite you to help and clean some of them up that are very scarce on the Capital District section. One article has Albany to Saratoga Springs as part of a "North Country" section which no one would ever claim that is part of New York's North Country. I have attempted to contact you before about outright wrong info on NY 32 concerning the Menands to Cohoes area (the article said the road went through Green Island, which the road didnt, and it labelled some of the street names wrong) and recieved no reply. I hope you are willing to make these articles better with me. No reason why some small sections downstate in these articles get much longer notice than similarly built up and notable sections upstate. While I understand your argument against having overly detailed info on every part of the route an FA article really shouldnt have wrong information like I was able to find.Camelbinky (talk) 22:22, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

The NY 32 issue has been taken care of, Daniel told me it was ok to be bold on that issue, it didnt matter that it an FA (I didnt want to step on anyone's toes on an FA and mess something up!). It is US Route 9 in New York that has Albany to Saratoga Springs in the North Country section. But the whole thing seems to be split in two, Hudson Valley and North Country, and I understand the split has to be somewhere, but it states in the article that the split is based that south of Albany US 9 is close to the Hudson, but north of Albany it diverges from it. I would argue it doesnt diverge from the Hudson until Glens Falls, not Albany (seeing as how it actually crosses the Hudson at Glens Falls it kinda shows it doesnt diverge all that much after Albany) and also US Route 9 in Rensselaer and northern Columbia counties (and hence in the Hudson Valley section) is often farther from the Hudson than parts that are in Albany County and therefore in the North Country section. US Route 9 in most places in Albany and Saratoga counties is no more than a 5 minute drive from the Hudson River. If you're not the person to talk to on this, can you let me know who is? Or even if you're not the person maybe you'd like to teach me pointers on how to source route discriptions and what is/isnt notable and such. I do like your style and would like to learn so I too can be an asset to these articles.Camelbinky (talk) 03:43, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your help.Camelbinky (talk) 21:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Hope I'm not bothering you with this other question, but I was wondering what you think about whether it would be worth looking into starting Adirondack Northway article as opposed to it currently being a redirect to a subsection on the route description of the Interstate 87 article. I wouldnt want an article that just duplicates what is already on the I-87 page, so I dont know if maybe first try a sandbox version and see if it ends up being sufficiently different to merit a page is an option.Camelbinky (talk) 01:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

Only eleven days in this round to go and it's looking very interesting in the Wildcard race. In particular there is an epic struggle for the automation progression spot at the top of Pool C with only two points in it as I type. In other news, congratulations to Durova for her 200th successful featured picture nomination on the English Knowledge (XXG) - well done!

DDSB

I'm not surprised that you failed Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Byway, but my question is, what are the problems you did not see before? I would like to address them whether the article will ever be GA quality or not. I would've been willing to remove the unnecessary details that I added (I was going to pare it down anyway, you are right that the info was unnecessary). I was simply trying to compensate for the lack of details about the history. Without information regarding the formation of the byway, do you think this article will ever be qualified to pass a GA review? Thanks. --ErgoSumtalktrib 23:18, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Not quite sure what you meant by #4. --ErgoSumtalktrib 01:18, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

Hey everyone, it's iMatthew! I'm so glad to finally back, and I need to thank Garden for taking care of things while I was ill. There are about 6 days left in the round, and I'm sending the newsletter out now to remind some of you to pick it up in these last few days if you want to get in the next round.

I've listed a few of you that have the chance to catch up before the end of the round in italics over to the right. Keep working!

NY 399

Where was the original NY 399? I'm not seeing it on 1940s topos (Binghamton and Utica), a 1937 map, or larger-scale 1940s topos. --NE2 07:36, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
