By leaving league stats, you're tracking something useful--ie, this players played that many games in that many seasons and scored that many goals in the most important competition. You might not agree with the latter statement if say you're from Russia/Ukraine, because the domestic tournament is weak, but for the rest of the leagues, the domestic competition is the primary competition. By doing something like (Maybe we should make a rule that ridiculous scores shouldn't count on a player's page such as Lyon's 7-2 vs. Werder Bremen or Arsenal's 7-0 vs. Middlesbrough\Everton or Shevchenko's four goals vs. Fenerbahce?) that, you're making exceptions in certain cases and not making them in others. This is not a methodical way in looking at this..nor is it endorsed by Knowledge (XXG). However, everyone is more than welcome to list european goals in the players profiles...--
137:. I must say though, that there are many very good reasons to leave to European goals out. Don't forget that certain clubs are more/less successful than others, and the levels of competitions (CWC, Uefa Cup, Champ League) vary quite a bit. Would it be fair to compare a player who scored 8 goals in 1 game against say Barry Town, vs another player who scored 1 goal in 1 game against AC Milan?..Additionally, would African/Asian/South American international competitions count as well? What about their significance and strength? Lastly, if you ever watch any American professional sport (and they keep a LOT of statistics on players), they would never consider combining playoff and regular season statistics for obvious reasons. Cheers, mate. -- 301: 63:. However, this user keeps adding him without any references. Thanks for keeping a lookout. 147:
American Pro Sports are very related to the subject at hand. The reason a club makes Euro competitions is because of its superb performance in the domestic league (or regular season)! Thus, it makes no sense to bring up playoff performance as a significant indicator of a players history and ability.
161:
I'll try to explain once again how they're relevant. With the exception of websites that list trivial information, player stats in American sports do not include playoff statistics. I dont know how much you know about the NFL/MLB/NBA, but there is a postseason tournament, featuring the top teams in

There are other concerns that are issues such as allowing European cups to count and not allowing Asian/African cups to count as I mentioned earlier..This issue has been well-debated and the original creators were smart to think of reasons why not to include European caps/goals.

the regular season who play for the Championship itself. However, playoff statistics are always kept separately and are never used when keeping straiightforward databases on player---here is an example of a typical baseball players profile--

Hi there. I'm not too sure if the yellow card is important enough, but if he gets another one, he will get suspended for one game, which is quite important in the context of the WC lasting for only 7 matches (at most). Regards,

326: 310: 171:. A players statistics will NEVER have playoff+regular season data combined in 1 season---they're 2 separate things as they are in this case. 59:
