Invalid FUR--not discussed critically, nor needed to understand the subject —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:17, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Keep – The back cover of the album, by artist R.D. Thomas, is in fact discussed in the article, in the Artwork section. The image of the back cover is needed to understand the subject, the subject being the back cover itself, including, but not limited to, the top half of the word DEAD spelling ACID. Mudwater 02:58, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Delete Only mentioned briefly in the article. That is not critical discussion in my opinion. --Stefan2 (talk) 08:12, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
    • The back cover is discussed in the article, therefore the requirement for critical discussion is fulfilled. If you are not satisfied with the text in the article, feel free to expand and improve it, but it is in fact critical discussion. Mudwater 12:01, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Delete. The unsourced text reads "The cover art for Live/Dead is by R.D. Thomas. On the original album, the word 'Live' is seen on the front cover, and the word 'Dead' fills the back cover. The word acid is also visible." Fails WP:NFCC#1, replaceable by text. — ξ 02:22, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

File:Europe72Back.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Mudwater (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Invalid FUR--not discussed critically, nor necessary for understanding. Readers can appreciate that there is an image of ice cream being stamped into someone's forehead without the image and the passage explaining this is unsourced regardless. —Justin (koavf)TCM 09:12, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Keep – The back cover of the album is in fact discussed in the article, in the "Cover art and packaging" section. The unsourced origin story of the ice cream kid image is only part of the discussion. Another part is that some of the flying ice cream spells LIVE. The inclusion of the image helps the readers' understanding of this. Merely describing an image is not as effective as including it. Having the back cover of the album included in the article does not violate fair use. Mudwater 03:02, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Delete. Let me see if I understand this correctly. We have an unsourced statement on the article that attempts to explain this image. Not reliably sourced critical commentary as required, but a description that, without a reliable source to verify it, is no better or worse than any other description that I might be able to come up with as an origin story. And lastly, the person advocating "keep" above has added their own original research regarding the ice cream's allegedly spelling out words. Sorry, I don't see it, and even so, it's still not acceptable without a source. SchuminWeb (Talk) 16:42, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Delete The image has to support the text. However, it appears to be the other way around: the text only seems to be there to explain the image. Besides, there is no critical sourced commentary of the image. Lots of everywhere. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
    • Reply – The only "citations needed" I see are the two for the chart listings. Also there's a "ref improve" tag that was added to the top of the article yesterday, and I'm not exactly clear why. None of these tags relate to the back album cover. Mudwater 21:05, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
      • You do realize how weak of an argument that is, right? Basically, what you're saying is that since most of the remainder of the article also lacks sources, you should have a free pass to also introduce unsourced material. No way. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:35, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
        • No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that the article having "citation needed" tags that are unrelated to the image is not a valid reason for removing the image. Mudwater 11:26, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Although this was discussed in the article, the passage was unsourced speculation, so that was removed as well as its use in Skeletons from the Closet: The Best of Grateful DeadJustin (koavf)TCM 09:44, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Keep. Only part of what the article said about the back album cover was unsourced speculation. I've restored the image to the article, along with a reworked version of the text that omits the speculative elements. Note also that the artist is himself notable and he has his own Knowledge article. This image is much more significant than a run of the mill back cover, and its inclusion in the article does not violate fair use. Mudwater 03:15, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

    • A photo of a coin has two copyrights: a photo copyright (owned by the photographer) and a coin photographer (owned by the Canadian government). The OTRS template is placed after the photo licence, so I would assume that it tells that the photographer has agreed to providing the photo under that licence. However, permission is also needed from the Canadian government. An OTRS member might wish to check what the ticket says. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:34, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Invalid FUR--not discussed critically. —Justin (koavf)TCM 12:34, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Delete – but not for the reasons suggested! The fair use rationale for the image -- artwork from an album insert -- is in fact valid, as the image is discussed in the article, in the third paragraph of the "Vintage NRPS: 1969–1982" subsection; it is also discussed, so to speak, in the image caption. That would be all good and well, but the article is not about the album, it's about the band, and so by longstanding practice in articles about albums and bands, the inclusion of the image is not justified. Invalid FUR--substantially similar to main album cover —Justin (koavf)TCM 12:39, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Keep – This is the album cover image for the bonus disc, not for the main album, and both the bonus disc and the main album are covered by the article. Just as the main album cover uniquely identifies the main album, this image uniquely identifies the bonus disc, and, like any other album cover, is critical to the readers' understanding of the subject. Whether or not it's substantially similar to the main album cover (and it's not) is therefore not relevant here. To have two, and only two, album cover images in this article does not violate fair use, and substantially increases the value of the article for the reader. Mudwater 11:51, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Delete The bonus disc and the main album have almost identical covers. Besides, the bonus disc isn't discussed critically. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:42, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
    • Reply – This is the article about the album, which includes both the main album and the bonus disc. So the album has two covers, the one for the main album and the one for the bonus disc. Critical discussion of the bonus disc album cover is therefore not needed to qualify for fair use in this article -- see my "keep" comment above. For these same reasons, it doesn't matter if the two album covers are completely different or somewhat similar, or even "almost identical", as you think this one is and I don't. Mudwater 21:00, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
      • Um, no. Critical commentary is not needed to include one cover. However, in this case, you are including two covers, which is a different thing. Critical commentary is needed for supporting the use of multiple covers. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:45, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
        • Could you please provide a link to the guideline that says that? It seems to me that this is similar to, but not exactly the same as, the case of an album with an alternate cover. In this case, the article is about two very strongly associated albums, the main one and the bonus disc, that each have their own cover. In the other case, alternate covers, which are widely accepted on Knowledge for use in album articles, one album is known by two (or possibly even more than two) different covers. So I believe that in both cases, including this one, critical commentary on the second cover is not required, because the second cover, like the first, uniquely identifies the album, is extremely useful to the reader, and is not replaceable by text or by a free image. That's definitely fair use, but if there's a Knowledge guideline against it, I'd like to see it. Thanks. Mudwater 00:32, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Keep. Already used as a backup for a text table in an article. Obviously, there is a reason why the nom's favored replacement format is insufficient, so the rationale for this deletion is faulty. The file needs to stay. VanIsaacWS 07:03, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Keep: For those running machines with Windows 2000 or older, they won't be able to view the Yi script as they do not have Yi Unicode fonts. In lesser developed countries computers running on Windows 98, 2000 and XP are more common than you think. The English Knowledge caters to all English readers, not only those from the United States and Great Britain, and we can't say when someone from Nigeria or something needs to look up information about the Yi script, for whatever reason. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 07:06, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
