314:(This is not a rant, please)Well, Tagalog speakers can be overbearing too. The social peer pressure is probably the reason why Spanish never got ingrained. Maybe we've somehow inherited the taboo to not speak Spanish and is somehow preventing some of us from speaking English. Is there a rule that you have to be rich to speak English? If I'm a balut vendor, should I not speak English? I respect the Tagalog language. But if English is an official language, nobody should feel ashamed to speak it. Especially if you're just a jeepney driver, cigarrete vendor, etc. Living in a country(Japan) where English is not an official or native language, I 've come to appreciate how much English is an advantage for us. Even cigarrete vendors, tinderas, etc. speak better English than many educated Japanese here. Why hide it? As a translator I've had a very difficult time with some arrogant Japanese who insisted that their crooked English was correct. They said that we (filipinos)are not native speakers. I have some friends in Spain too and indeed , the ability to speak English is a source of pride. But I have no problem if English is removed as an official language. Its just that the social misconception about Filipino English speakers which causes me problems.-- 610:(Start a new par. , naiipit na eh.) Filipino/Pilipino reflects the official national (constructed)language. Tagalog reflects or implies the local language. Didn't Quezon and his team reconstruct the Filipino ? I didn't add this yet to the wikipedia articles but I read somewhere that Quezon and co. were afraid of opposition from the Cebuano and other language groups, so instead of naming the language Tagalog, it became Filipino/Pilipino. We have similar problems with for example Spain ( to call it Espanyol or Castellano?, also, Basque, Catalunian, Gallego , etc are considered 'Spanish' languages') . Not only Spain, but India(Hindi, Tamil etc.), China(Chinese or Mandarin, Putonghua, also local Cantonese, Fookien etc.) etc. have issues whether to call it the name of the local dialect or to reflect the name of the nation. Take a poll(Tagalog or Filipino)? 290:-executive dapat pwede kang mag -salita ng English, Tagalog, Spanish o Japanese (I speak these fluently), and others Cebuano, Ilocano, etc. Ang sabi, English is a language for the Konyo's (Socialites). It shouldn't be. It is just a language. Cebuanos don't like to speak Tagalog. That's all. In college, a librarian scolded someone for not speaking Tagalog. He responded that he was a Malaysian and could not speak Tagalog. Indonesians and Malaysians look like us. We should recognize that English is our formal language and Tagalog(and others) is( are) our informal language(s). -- 2365:
include the nationality in the appellation "Rock star," I feel, is unfair to the band as a whole. Case in point, Kirk Hammet is Filipino, but he is a member of an American Rock band, making him only a part of a whole. Considering him a Filipino Rock star is misleading and unfair to Metallica as an American band. Unless Hammet begins to establish a solo career, only then would calling him a Filipino Rock star become legitimate. I would love to read some opinions concerning this trivial yet delicate point. --

independence(a different issue). As an event about the electoral crisis , this is more notable (current article is perfect as it is). The title 'revolution', is a bit misleading. Why are you worried? It might be embarrasing if no revolution breaks out or make independent predictions. If it is chismis, do verify your sources. I work as a reporter. Grabe ang sermon sa akin from the editors kung hindi verifiable, reliable and independent ang source ko. (My expert advice, 'Naku ha!')--
31: 2056:, and discovered the system serving Metro Manila is also abbreviated as MRT. The problem here is that when I was looking for the full name, both "Mass Rail Transit" and "Metro Rail Transit" were found. The same happened when I search on Google for government websites (site:gov.ph). Which is the actual official name? It seems to me that both are used, and as common. — 2575:. It was published in 1849 and is the source of surnames for perhaps the vast majority of Filipinos - even yours (mine too)!. You guys will probably find it interesting. I am planning on scanning a couple of pages and including it into the article. I don't have a scanner here at home, so it'll probably take a while. In the meantime, enjoy. -- 411:

It seems that I'm the only one contributing there. ;) Out of 266 articles, I contributed about 104. That's 40%, wow we really need help there. Some of my articles need to be polished and expanded. --

Since you're quite active in the Tagalog Knowledge, any ideas on how this translation project will work? I'm guessing that it should mostly work like the Weekly collaboration projects here in Knowledge. We'll select an article or two to translate per week (we're all busy) and we could all collaborate
2364:
I removed Kirk Hammet of Metallica in the examples of Filipino Rock stars cited in the article because I feel that this is misleading. My position is that a member of a particular Rock group or band may be regarded as a "Rock star" only in the sense that s/he is a member of a popular Rock group; to

Hello, I thought this might be the proper place to post this, since the Tagalog Knowledge has no Tambayan_Philippines. I noticed that some articles in the Tagalog Knowledge might be better placed in Wiktionary; for instance, I don't think "Akumulasyon" or "Kulangot" could have much more than a

My take is that Tagalog Knowledge is more appropriate, and I should say more accurate, because we are dealing here with the native or local Tagalog language itself and not the still proposed (by the Philippine Constitution; by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino) national Filipino language.

Sorry, I am unfamiliar with the "points" system in this task force. If it exists however, the way I see it, if an article was wrongfully tagged a stub when it is not a stub, no points should be given. There are also several articles tagged as Start but should in fact be Stub.
2228:. Is that acceptable? Personally I'd prefer it without all of those accents. To me it's "Cebu", not "Cebú"; "Cagayan", not "Cagayán"; "Raul Roco", not "Raúl Roco". Also, more controversially, I hear lots of people say that calling that language "Cebuano" or "Sebuano" is too biased in favor of Cebu, because the same language is used broadly all over Mindanao, like Davao for instance. People there call the language 620:
There are actually more people that use Cebuano as a first language than Tagalog. Some would claim that a Cebuano Knowledge is useless since all Cebuanos already understand the other Knowledge languages-- but then I could use the same argument against Tagalog Knowledge.

I'm not gonna vote against it, but I can't help but feel that people's efforts would be better put to use if concentrated on improving the quality of articles in major languages rather than dividing efforts among several Wikipedias. To each his own...

Eventually we should have a Cebuano Knowledge, an Ilocano Knowledge, a Pangasinan Knowledge, a Hiligaynon Knowledge, etc. Besides, there's a difference between Filipino and Tagalog. And what does he mean change the name? Make it Tagalog? Wikipidya?

Funny, well put, and you're right. It is good that you reminded me. If we do our best to be reliable and verified in writing the text of articles, it must be the same stiff standard that is used in starting new articles. For the moment at least,

I know. I started this page because there is almost no coordination for Philippine-related articles. Frankly, I have no idea how this page will work. I just started it and hopefully something will come out of it. Do you guys have any ideas?

I also noticed some useless entries, such as "Marso 24", which say nothing but how many days are left in the year from that day. Since there doesn't seem to be a page for nominating items for deletion, I couldn't do much about it either...

Sometimes those accent marks, when used thoughout the article, is kind of annoying to the eye. Is it really necessary? If it's neccessary then maybe the terms or words can be accented only the first time they are mentioned in the article.
881:
I'd say follow the "Leyte province" form (lower case "p"!) for all the "ambiguous provinces". The others should stay as they are. By the way, I've made redirects for all the provinces so that "Ifugao province" redirects to "Ifugao", etc.

From the looks of it, they cannot topple Gloria Arroyo. Not yet. The opposition is fragmented, each group have their own separate agenda. So, we cannot expect another "EDSA revolution" these times. The Filipino people are tired of it.
