229:, it says John Edward Long was a physician, then goes on to say "Long served as secretary of the provisional government from May 25, 1844 to June 21, 1846. … He served in that position until he was drowned while fording the Clackamas River." In the next paragraph, the source says Frederick Prigg was a physician, then says "Prigg was appointed secretary of the provisional government to succeed Long … He fell to his death from a bluff into the Willamette River at Oregon City in October 1849." The same events are covered in Footnote 74 on p.36 of Bancroft’s 67: 49: 77: 22: 235:, but that source say Dr Long drown in the Willamette River at Oregon City (vice Clackamas River, which also flows through Oregon City).
