US Navy in one definition a deployment is usually schedule to be near 6 monthly in length - in the opposite hemisphere - maybe Near Europe, or the
Mediterranean, or Western Pacific, or Indian Ocean or Persian Gulf. usually schedule and intent. Around 2003 I think the US Navy conducted an experiment where the conducted a deployment longer that a year - the Whole crew was swapped out half way through. From what I heard - Some deployments end up longer for various reasons.
