picture I still believe it is an over estimate but that it may be close. The shoulders are probably between 23 and 26 feet wide. The Base seems to be about 33 feet wide. After making some rough estimates of the dimensions I'm estimating it is about 200 cubic meters. If it is average density of a typical stone it would be about 2.5 tons per cubic meter. That would be about 500 tons. this estimate has a large margin of error since it is based on rough guesses and incomplete dimensions. This is one of the greatest wonders of the ancient world. Only a few of the
Egyptian statues are larger than this. Any information about how far they transported it, what type of rock it is carved out of or more specific dimensions will be welcome. My initial asumption was that it was carved in place but that doesn't seem to be the case acording to some of the text. There are some reference to it being erected and it seems highly unlikely that it would have been standing up naturaly on the top of a hill. There are also reference to the steps being carved out of the rock. This implies that there may be a lot of rock on the hill therefore it could have been close but it still would have been tough to erect. Like the Trilithon stones it may have been moved up hill. Some of this is speculation so if anyone can confirm or refute it please do so. This is one of a dozen or so sites that moved colossal stones 100 to 1,000 tons in the ancient world.
436:
Gomateswara is of particular interest. This statue is as tall as the
Colossi of Memnon. It is not as deep or as heavy but it probably still weighs 3-6 hundred tons and must have been extremely difficult to move. This was erected over 1,000 years ago with primitave technology. If you know more about it and can site sources please do so. I have found several sources on the web and in the library. The web sources are:

If it's going to take the form of a tourist guide, it doesn't belong in wikipedia. I'm not sure how you could restructure this. List of landmarks? Normally this sort of stuff would get broken out. Places to visit go in geography or history or culture, same with other activities and attractions,

They all agree that the statue is 17 meters tall not 13 as was recorded on your article. I corrected it since I had several sources that agreed. I initionaly assumed that the 26 feet estimated width of the sholders is way off based on the proportions shown in the picture after looking at a clearer
