Tamga

2224:. Tamga are of immense interest to numismatists, and are discussed in many academic works relating to the medieval Islamic coins of Central Asia. However, numismatists and historians currently have limited options for representing tamga symbols in text, and cannot reliably interchange text including tamga symbols because they are either represented as images, or are handdrawn, or use an ad hoc font. Doctor Nyamaa identifies nearly a hundred tamga signs used on coins, although only about half of them can be assigned to a specific ruler, and some of them are variant forms or presentation forms of the same tamga. 2464: 277: 2332: 350: 2607: 336: 2288: 2243: 1491: 320: 241:, and by cultures influenced by them. The tamga was used as a livestock branding for a particular tribe, clan or family. They were common among the Eurasian nomads throughout Classical Antiquity and the Middle Ages. As clan and family identifiers, the collection and systematic comparison of tamgas is regarded to provide insights into relations between families, individuals and ethnic groups in the steppe territory. 2273: 2318: 2303: 2258: 2546: 47: 2183: 2167: 2151: 2145: 2129: 2123: 2095: 2081: 2075: 2061: 2047: 2041: 2027: 2022: 2008: 2002: 1996: 1982: 1976: 1970: 1936: 1930: 1924: 1901: 1895: 1881: 1875: 1869: 1844: 1838: 1822: 1816: 1810: 1796: 1790: 1784: 1778: 1764: 1758: 1752: 1729: 1715: 1709: 1703: 1697: 1683: 1677: 1663: 1657: 1643: 1637: 1631: 1625: 1611: 1605: 1591: 1585: 1579: 1573: 1559: 1553: 1519: 1505: 1475: 1469: 1455: 1449: 1443: 1427: 1413: 1397: 1381: 1375: 1361: 1347: 1333: 1319: 1313: 1307: 1293: 1279: 1273: 1257: 1243: 1229: 1223: 1209: 1193: 1179: 1173: 1157: 1151: 1145: 1139: 1123: 1109: 1103: 1089: 1083: 1067: 1051: 1045: 1039: 1023: 1007: 991: 975: 961: 947: 933: 927: 921: 905: 899: 883: 867: 861: 845: 2231: 2423: 738: 701: 786: 652: 508: 770: 722: 572: 684: 668: 588: 620: 802: 556: 754: 636: 604: 540: 476: 524: 492: 2347:
