Lidia Vianu

Hello,
This is the first time I deal with a deleted page, please help me. This is the page of Lidia Vianu. I was not the author of the page.
WP:DRV tells me to talk to you first. The reason is "significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify recreating the deleted page."
I can not see the deleted article, but I understand that the deleted version was written by people (including User:Lidiavianu) familiar with commercial websites, and not familiar with Knowledge (XXG) and WP:N. The new proposed version is here. For writers, many notes refer to their works, but some also speak about herself (notes 1, 2, 3). Her work is described in newspapers with national coverage as the diaries Adevărul, România Liberă, Ziarul Financiar, Evenimentul Zilei, as well the Romanian Television (TVR), Radio Romania Muzical. Notes 5, 8, 9, 13–17, 22 are interviews given by her, which show the interest of the press and of the cultural field to her. Notes 28 and 32 are her introductions by publishers outside of Romania. Many notes are from 2017–2018. Of course, separately each note may be declared insufficient for notability, as in above mentioned AfD, but together it shows coverage. Please tell me what I have to do. Thanks. --Turbojet (talk) 18:31, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Yes, I understood the page was "salted", so I asked what to do. Thank you both for the answer. --Turbojet (talk) 05:31, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Omarosa

Please explain how it is possible for a user named 'Brian1234brian', whose username is described in Knowledge (XXG) as being a non-existent user or page, nonetheless appears in the editing history of the Omarosa Manigault article as having made an edit on August 10, 2018, at 22:50. Thanks.----

BLP protection

Thanks for this to Annette Bening. The editors who disrupt that article equally hit Warren Beatty with the same material, so maybe protect that one also? I range-blocked the most recently involved set of IPs. Not the first time that range has had to go sit in the corner for a while... DMacks (talk) 15:21, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Wikidata weekly summary #327

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • Structured Data on Commons: A draft specification for using Depicts statements on Commons is up for community feedback.
    • It's possible to add somevalue and novalue using QuickStatements, and to use the tool on test.wikidata.org as well.
    • More properties can be searched using haswbstatement. This includes all properties with "external identifier", "string", "item", "property", "lexeme", "form" and "sense" datatypes, except published in (P1433) and cites (P2860). In addition you may make queries without a specified value.
    • The page creation and edit rate limit imposed in April will be removed in the next days. However, users who are not bots or administrators are throttled to 90 edits per minute (which was set up on all Wikimedia wikis in May).
    • These new languages are now supported for monolingual text strings: mid, mnw, gmy, rar, haz, uga. The language doesn't show up in the suggester, but you can save the statement and it will be stored properly.
    • Reminder: Wikidata's sixth birthday happens in two months. It's time to think about organizing a meetup with your local community, or preparing a gift (see the list of presents last year).
    • Lexicographical data: you can now try Senses on beta
    • 25% of the labeling campaign to improve the vandalism detection on Wikidata has been done. Please help by reviewing a few edits!
  • Development
    • More work on merging Lexemes
    • More work on data types and edit summary for Senses
    • Improve qualifier suggestions using constraint definition (phab:T201288)
    • Improve constraint property item suggestions for property constraint values (phab:T199672)
    • Remove ratelimit from Wikidata for some groups again (phab:T198396)

You can see all open tickets related to Wikidata here. If you want to help, you can also have a look at the tasks needing a volunteer.

Protection for David Hogg (activist)

Is the level of vandalism on this page enough to consider replacing the protection level or at least pending changes protection on this page? As soon as the protection you placed was lifted, daily vandalism and BLP violations returned almost immediately. I personally think pending changes is preferable, so good faith IP editors can have a chance to suggest edits.--- Coffeeandcrumbs 16:24, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Please remove semiprotection from this article, 1) you've added this in January, and now there was only 1 edit for 8 months, suggests this is very low frequency article. 2) I'm a local voter in her election area, Bruce. 3) She is not high profile in Canberra anyway. Repeated AfD Reversal Help

Hi,

Mad Ghost Productions was recently closed by me after Knowledge (XXG):Articles for deletion/Mad Ghost Productions, I felt that redirect was justified.

However a user, DisneyMetalhead , has repeatedly reverted my redirect of it. I contacted him, pointed out that the AfD !voted in this fashion, and explained either that additional referencing could be added to satisfy the notability failings or that my NAC could be reviewed, and I provided the link. I also reverted back to the redirect.

He has rejected even the concept of the AfD editors, and their justifications, from having the right to judge whether an article should exist, including stating that a company page is the most reliable source. He has added a couple of sources, but while they cover Geoff Johns (the AfD redirect target) well, they don't seem to help Mad Ghost productions' notability.

Not having seen this problem before, and the failure of engagement thus far (and the assumptive proof that my NAC wasn't uncontroversial after all), I hoped you could give me some with the issue, either directly or with some suggestions in what I should do, and preferably any lessons learnt I might have missed.

Cheers, Nosebagbear (talk) 23:09, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks greatly, both for the help and the rapid response. Nosebagbear (talk) 23:33, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – September 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2018).

Administrator changes

added None
removed AsterionCrisco 1492KFKudpungLizRandykittySpartaz
renamed Optimist on the runVoice of Clam

Interface administrator changes

added AmorymeltzerMr. StradivariusMusikAnimalMSGJTheDJXaosflux

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a "stop-gap" discussion, six users have temporarily been made interface administrators while discussion is ongoing for a more permanent process for assigning the permission. Interface administrators are now the only editors allowed to edit sitewide CSS and JavaScript pages, as well as CSS/JS pages in another user's userspace. Previously, all administrators had this ability. The right can be granted and revoked by bureaucrats.

Technical news

  • Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour.
  • Some abuse filter variables have changed. They are now easier to understand for non-experts. The old variables will still work but filter editors are encouraged to replace them with the new ones. You can find the list of changed variables on mediawiki.org. They have a note which says Deprecated. Use ... instead. An example is article_text which is now page_title.
  • Abuse filters can now use how old a page is. The variable is page_age.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee has resolved to perform a round of Checkuser and Oversight appointments. The usernames of all applicants will be shared with the Functionaries team, and they will be requested to assist in the vetting process. The deadline to submit an application is 23:59 UTC, 12 September, and the candidates that move forward will be published on-wiki for community comments on 18 September.

WikiCup 2018 September newsletter

The fourth round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The eight users who made it to the final round had to score a minimum of 422 points to qualify, with the top score in the round being 4869 points. The leaders in round 4 were:

  • South Carolina Courcelles scored a magnificent 4869 points, with 92 good articles on Olympics-related themes. Courcelles' bonus points alone exceeded the total score of any of the other contestants!
  • Hel, Poland Kees08 was second with 1155 points, including a high-scoring featured article for Neil Armstrong, two good topics and some Olympics-related good articles.
  • Scotland Cas Liber, with 1066 points, was in third place this round, with two featured articles and a good article, all on natural history topics.
  • Other contestants who qualified for the final round were Marshall Islands Nova Crystallis, Republic of Texas Iazyges, Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, Wales Kosack and United States Ceranthor.

During round four, 6 featured articles and 164 good articles were promoted by WikiCup contestants, 13 articles were included in good topics and 143 good article reviews were performed. There were also 10 "in the news" contributions on the main page and 53 "did you knows". Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Knowledge (XXG):WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Knowledge (XXG) talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best editor win! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Knowledge (XXG):WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Godot13, Sturmvogel 66, Vanamonde and Cwmhiraeth. Recent changes

  • There is a new user right for users who can edit CSS and JavaScript for the entire wiki. Before this all admins could edit CSS and JavaScript. This was a security risk. This group is called interface administrators. Administrators can delete user CSS and JavaScript pages.
  • There will be an A/B test on the Knowledge (XXG) mobile website. It starts this week. It tests how we show templates that show information about an article. The test will last two weeks.
  • You can now use different CSS rules for different skins when you edit templates. This is because of TemplateStyles.
  • wp10 in ORES is now called articlequality.
  • When you get a new message on your talk page you get a yellow message in the toolbar. The preference to show or not show this has been removed.

Problems

  • UploadWizard had problems with campaigns. Users could not upload files. This has now been fixed.
  • You can get a notification when a link is made to a page you created. This has not worked since June. It was fixed last week.

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 4 September. It will be on non-Knowledge (XXG) wikis and some Wikipedias from 5 September. It will be on all wikis from 6 September (calendar).

Wikidata weekly summary #328

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Development
    • Final polishing on first version of Senses support for Lexemes. (phabricator:T201000, phabricator:T202729, phabricator:T198036, phabricator:T203334)
    • Continued work on merging Lexemes. Merging via the SpecialPage is done and will be rolled out soon. Merging via the API is still being worked on. (phabricator:T189129)
    • Long Lemmas in Lexemes look bad because they are not flowing to the next line and instead break the layout. Working on a fix. (phabricator:T195367)
    • Improving the validity of the HTML of the Lexeme headers. (phabricator:T196228)
    • Worked on showing the Lemma(s) or Representation(s) when Lexemes or Forms are mentioned in constraint reports. (phabricator:T195315)
    • Got a new beta feature ready for deployment that will improve the suggestions for properties like sex/gender by first suggesting the values defined in the one-of constraint. (phabricator:T202712)

AfD Close Help Query

Hi,

Something seems to have gone wrong with Knowledge (XXG):Articles for deletion/Log/2018 August 28. There seems an overall close (it overlaps all of them) on the bottom half of all the AfDs that has closed them together. It seems extremely unlikely each of them was closed individually this early. I was hoping you could have a look. Nosebagbear (talk) 22:03, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

No can do on a phone, sorry. Courcelles (talk) 22:17, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher)  Fixed — JJMC89(T·C) 22:21, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Many thanks to both :) Nosebagbear (talk) 22:25, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Range block

You applied a range block for the case of TRUEV140 a while ago. Now, similar range (1, 2 3, 4, 5) is re-appearing for making same edits on the same articles of TRUEV140.--Let There Be Sunshine 10:05, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

My GA Reviews

Hi Courcelles! So as you can see, I knocked out 8 of your GA noms. Here is the list of my reviews:

It is totally up to you, but I would prefer you go one at a time. I think they will all pass as most of the edits are pretty straight forward, but it would be easier for me to handle if we addressed all the issues in the first review, pass it, and then move to the second. I should be pretty responsive over the next week, but no rush. Cheers, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:37, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Recent changes

  • When you added or edited a template with the visual editor the input boxes were very big. This has been fixed. The input boxes will now be smaller until you click on them. Then they will change size to fit the text.

Problems

  • Some diffs showed lines in the wrong order. This was fixed last week.
  • Marking a cross-wiki notification as read didn't work every time. The other wiki was not updated. This has now been fixed.
  • <maplink> did not work for a few days. This was because of a bug. This has now been fixed.
  • {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} is used by some templates. For a period edits saved with {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} would save the previous user's name and not your username. This is now fixed. Edits made before the bug was fixed will still be wrong and need to be corrected.
  • When you move a page the title still shows the old page name. The developers are working on fixing this.

Changes later this week

  • Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour. You can read more about this.
  • Because of the data centre test there will be no new version of MediaWiki this week. Changes for this week will come next week instead.

Meetings

  • Recurrent item You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 11 Septmber at 18:30 (UTC). See how to join.
  • Recurrent item Advanced item You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 12 September at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Myself n many like me (not white supremacist) do not appreciate slander n see u as an extremely cowardly person. U have labeled those u don't agree with n those that do not follow ur brand of politics unfairly as white supremacist! Ur entire 'resistance' is a joke n so are you n those like you. Ppl that label others without being able to defend themselves in my opinion r disgusting 'human' scumbag losers. Then u go n lock those pages that u have committed ur social sins upon so no one can correct or question ur narrow minded opinions. U r an extremely hateful person to do this type of thing against someone's livelihood n one can only hope u do not have any authority over another living person or animal for that matter because your thoughts and politics are poison to freedom and you know it. N on top of that u go n hide behind a username so no one can challenge ur bulls*** LIES!!! U r a typical 'progressive' n it makes me sick to think that a 'person' like u can or would throw ur labels on those that %(which is the only way u'll ever understand) a horrible prejudiced selfish childish creature!!! Instead of writing n locking ur BIAS OPINIONS of others u should take that time to work on something u obviously never thought of doing n that of course is to GROW UP N REALIZE N RESPECT THAT UR OPINION IS NOT N DOESN'T HAVE TO BE EVERYONE ELSE'S AS WELL. UR OPINION DOES NOT N NEVER WILL MATTER ANY MORE OR ANY LESS THAN THE HOMELESS MAN U TURN UR NOSE UP AT WHILE DRIVING IN UR SAAB, NO MATTER HOW MUCH U THINK IT SHOULD!!! THIS WORLD CAN DEF DO WITHOUT ANYMORE ENTITLED SMUG BRATS SUCH AS THE PERSON LOOKING BACK AT U FROM THE MIRROR!!! RESPECT OTHERS RIGHTS N OPINIONS N CIVILIZED PPL(WHICH U CLEARLY R NOT) N U MAY BE SURPRISED TO SEE THAT MYSELF N OTHERS WILL EXTEND U THAT SAME COMMON DECENCY!!! • Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Knowledge (XXG) and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
  • The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
  • Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019.
