Not everyone agrees with this, and several people have tried to contact him on his talk page, but so far it's been difficult to communicate with him in English. Moreover, it appears that he's posting derogatory and not entirely serious comments about other countries on his talk page. I think what's really needed is for someone to speak to him in Japanese. The template is designed to be able to be used for people with no knowledge of any Chinese script, and then people with a good understanding can clear the articles out of the category. I figure this could be used for Japan-related articles missing kanji, but perhaps it is better to have a separate template which would cover topics written in kana? One of my co-workers, Asst Curator of Japanese Prints at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, confirms that Hangaku is a fairly famous and probably real person; definitely a character actually depicted in art and stories.
