Welcome!
Welcome to Knowledge (XXG), Barras! I am Pmlinediter and have been editing Knowledge (XXG) for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Knowledge (XXG)! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Knowledge (XXG)
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Knowledge (XXG):Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Jim Braden
The vandalisation of my Jim Braden article was done by user RadioFan who has yet to cite the section of the article that he alleges is plagarized. I am currently building the article with additional info and request that the deletion be removed as I suspect it was added out of spite. All this pettyness makes it very difficult to actively create articles lacking in Knowledge (XXG). Or perhaps you or RadioFan would like to start an article on Dal-Tex, which I see no page has yet been made. That would be a much more constructive use of your energy and time.Aliveatoms (talk) 20:16, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, you got the warning, because you changed the userpage of RadioFan. For messages are the talk pages. Sorry, but I am not a native speaker of english, and so I don't want to create articles, here on the Englisch Knowledge (XXG). Barras (talk) 20:21, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK, thank you, my mistake. I meant to do it on the discussion page. Please help remove the deletion status on my article. There is no plagarism.Aliveatoms (talk) 20:23, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll try to wikify the article a bit. But I can't do much more. Barras (talk) 20:24, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

This shouldn't have been reverted. As the author of the page and the only substantial contributor, Myson1431 (talk · contribs) blanking the page should be taken as a request to speedy delete it per WP:CSD#G7. Javert 17:38, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oh. I add normally the template to such pages. Per the history of the article, I reverted the edit to a bot edit, which added an interwiki. The author is so not the only editor of the page and therefore shouldn't the page be deleted under G7. Best Barras (talk) 17:41, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Adding an interwiki link is not a substantial contribution. Per, WP:CSD#G7, "provided that the page's only substantial content was added by its author", which is clearly the case here. Javert 17:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK! Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I'll do it the next time better. The creater of the article requested now the deletions. Barras (talk) 17:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Your vote in the Oversight/CheckUser elections
Hi there. I'm happy that you wanted to support my candidacy for Oversight with this edit, however I regret to tell you that you are not allowed to vote in this election. Voters need to have made 150 or more edits before June 15, 2009 and you have only started contributing here this month. As such I removed your vote. I hope you will continue to contribute here and if you need any help, please do not hesitate to ask. Regards SoWhy 21:32, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Erm, Barras has the required number of contributions.--Tznkai (talk) 01:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- And I have started to contribute here under User:Barras (de), because this name was firstly not mine. Further more I have over 6k edits on simple and about 1k on dewiki. Best --Barras (talk) 09:55, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- And I have about 300 edits here before 15 July. Barras (talk) 09:56, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, the cutoff date is 15 June. But I have been scolded by Tznkai for indenting your vote (as I'm a candidate) anyway, so I will leave the decision to ArbCom and their hard-working clerks to do such checks. No matter whether your vote will be allowed to stand or not, I am very happy for your trust in me and I will be happy to assist you here if I can. Regards SoWhy 10:01, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, June... Well, let the ArbCom make the decision. Hopefully, they don't check me and you get the tools. Good luck, with or without my vote. Barras (talk) 10:38, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm bringing this up with other election clerks. In the meantime Barras, can you list any and all accounts you have on en-wiki so we can see your vote count as an editor?.--Tznkai (talk) 15:52, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, you should perhaps label User:Barras (de) rather with {{FormerAccount}} or simply redirect it than to declare it a sockpuppet account. Wrong
I found the edit to be perfectly helpful, constructive and I fully understand what the sandbox is. That users comment:
This article shows what a primitive and hypocritic country the USA is. Apart from Saudi Arabia, China and the USA almost no other countries execute citizens anymore. The USA also has double punishment since most death row prisoners spend 20 years or more waiting to die so are effectively also serving a life sentence. And of course this comes from the same country dominated by religious people who speak out at protecting the rights of the unborn child yet turn the other cheek when criminals are put to death by their own government and they're usually black prisoners of course because white people tend to get prison sentences or have the money to pay for a better lawyer. What a shameful country. Americans use your vote in November and use it to better your country rather than isolate it further. --217.201.207.212 (talk) 19:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Akuafo Hall
Please explain to me in very clear terms why you have REQUESTED a speedy deletion of my article titled Akuafo Hall. Sincerely I am not pleased at all with such an action as the regulations for G7 do not apply to the article in my opinion and from my understanding of the rules. 2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!
To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.
It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:
- Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
- Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
- Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
- Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
- Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
- Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew at 03:40, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Happy holidays!
Last chance to confirm your WikiCup participation!
Hi Barras! This is the last message that will go out to remind you that in order to participate in the 2010 WikiCup, you MUST remove your name from this list! Again, the reason for this reconfirmation is to ensure you've looked over the updated point values (which were different at the time you signed up) and to ensure that you are still interested in competing! If you don't have time to participate or no longer wish to, ignore this message and leave your name on the list. All names on the list will be removed from the contestants list before the Cup starts. Cheers! iMatthew at 14:15, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Translation help
I found your name at the Germany Wiki-project. I'm hoping you might help me with a German/English problem. I'm trying to add/correct the coordinates on Eintrachthütte concentration camp and Zgoda labour camp. After some effort I've definitively located the camp gate shown here at these coordinates 50°16′46″N 18°54′03″E / 50.2794159°N 18.9008135°E / 50.2794159; 18.9008135 and inserted them, perhaps prematurely, in the Eintrachthütte concentration camp article. (Compare the building in the background of the photo here with the full zoomed-in view here, if you care to confirm that identification.) As explained in these articles, the WWII camp was reused as the Zgoda labor camp. The Zgoda labour camp article, however, already has different coordinates which according to the edit history were taken from the de-WP KZ Eintrachthütte article. I would ordinarily have merely taken that as an imprecise location for the camp (there's a lot of imprecise coordinates) and changed it to the current location of the camp gate, but I stumbled onto this 2003 article in German which, when I machine translated it through Google translate, has some language in it which makes me wonder if the gate may have been moved from its original location to a more easily-accessible location and, thus, makes me concerned that the camp may not have been located where the gate is located now. I was hoping you might read that article and see if there's anything in it that suggests that the gate may have been moved. (The language that most particularly worries me is, "Das erklärt die aufwendige Verlegung des Lagertors an die dicht befahrene Hauptstraße von Schwientochlowitz nach Friedenshütte." Google translates it as: "This explains the complex Relocation of the camp gate on the densely trafficked main road from Schwientochlowitz for peace hut."). Any help you can provide will be very much appreciated. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 21:09, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)
Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Knowledge (XXG) editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Knowledge (XXG) editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:
- Link to Survey (should take between 5-10 minutes): http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N8FQ6MM
It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.
At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).
Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.
If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at . Cheers! Ocaasi 17:08, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
blocked at meta wiki
Hello, I very recently created an account at metawiki under the same user name, because it was asking me to log-in even though I'm logged into Wiki. I didn't end up editing anything there. A few days later, I go back and see that my user name is tagged as "spam-bot" indefinite ban. I didn't do anything and I've been a user here on English Knowledge (XXG) for over 4 years. I'm not able to respond to your page there either. What's going on ? Cantaloupe2 (talk) 02:22, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, I just unblocked you there. I'm sorry for that, however, several information lead to this block. Your username fits to some kind of pattern, it is not unified and more, so the account was blocked. We currently suffer huge problems with spammers, so we always block them quickly. Sorry that you were caught by it. Regards, -Barras 08:41, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
- Can you go ahead and undo the IP block that went along with it at the time? I obviously don't want the actual IP mentioned here for privacy reasons, but I see that you've chkusr privilege there, so you would be able to do it there, right? It applied a global ban which affects my ability to use en.wikipedia too. Cantaloupe2 (talk) 07:45, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Books & Bytes New Years Double Issue
Happy New Year, and welcome to a special double issue of Books & Bytes. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!
The Knowledge (XXG) Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:
- Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
- Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
- New pilot projects: Started the Knowledge (XXG) Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Knowledge (XXG) researchers
- Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
- Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
- Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

The Knowledge (XXG) Library: New Account Coordinators Needed
Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Knowledge (XXG) Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.
It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. If you're interested in helping out, please drop a note in the next week at my talk page or shoot me an email at: jorlowitzgmail.com. Thanks and cheers, Jake Ocaasi via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
