Re: Injuries

No problem, I'll look. Cheers, BlackPearl14 01:05, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I think it should be fine just to post w/o a source, so long as you put this code: {{fact}}. Just copy and paste, and right next to your post, put that down. That way it will come out as such:

I am a wikipedia editor.

I will look and let you know, ASAP. BlackPearl14 16:57, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem! BlackPearl14 22:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I will be sure to check that out on youtube and source it for you: thank you so much! BlackPearl14 18:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Help

{{helpme}} I've seen people with lots of different types of userpages. How do I personalize the font and colors on my userpage?--Panic!out 20:32, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Userboxes

This will help format your userboxes into a table. For userboxes, go here: .

There's a whole list of userboxes. When you find one you like, click "edit page" and then, copy everything from the <div> to the </div>, leaving out the area that says ].

You can also find userboxes by navigating to other users' pages. When you find a userbox on someone's page that you like, copy the code and put it on your own. Or you could join a WikiProject or Group and get codes.

Hope that helps! If you've got any more questions, don't hesitate to ask! Oh, and here's the code for "why is the rum gone?" :

{{User:UBX/Pirates2}}

Just copy and paste that and it should work. I completely agree with you on the whole "why is the rum gone?" thing - I say it all the time as well! BlackPearl14 03:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Here's another pirate userbox you might like: {{User:Xenocidic/Pirate}}. yarr! xenocidic ( talk Âż review ) 17:13, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
And give nothing back! Hey, I noticed you have the same sig-style as me! That's pretty cool!BlackPearl14 19:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Ha, may your rum bottle never die out...either... :P Talk to you later.BlackPearl14 18:46, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption offer

{{adoptoffer}}

Hello panic!out :)

i see you have an open request to be adopted, and i would like to close that request by offering adoption to you. Personally i am mainly doing maintenance work such as checking new pages and removing vandalism, but i can also help in case you got questions about article creation, wiki syntax, wikipedia rules et cetera. No matter what, i am always availible if you got any kind of (Knowledge (XXG) related) question, so if you need help, just say so :)

Kind regards Excirial 20:34, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't think a second adoption is necessary. But if you ever need me you know where to find me = ). Regards, --Cameron (T|C) 15:48, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

It's case sensitive. Use /Menu instead of /menu...... Dendodge .. Talk 17:49, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Also, until Haza-w moved it, it was at User:Template:Panic!out/Menu, not User:Panic!out/Menu. Algebraist 17:52, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, real life called! As Algebraist said, I've moved the template to User:Panic!out/Menu as you tried to use two namespace prefixes – it should have been named as a user sub-page. Now, all you need to do is use {{User:Panic!out/Menu}} on your pages, and it'll be transcluded. haz (talk) 18:01, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay that's fixed, but how do I redirect the contributions link to my actual contributions page? It just makes a new page, and I already have one.--Panic!out 18:02, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure, I've updated the link. For future reference, ] is the link for user contribs pages. haz (talk) 18:05, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Hello, Excirial, I accept your adoption offer. Basically all I want to know is how things on Knowledge (XXG) work, especially uploading files; I learn best by experiencing so direct links are helpful. Thank you very much!--Panic!out 20:29, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Then hello what else can i say then "Hello, Hi, and Thanks for letting me adopt you!". Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. And lets get started :).
Files that can be uploaded on Knowledge (XXG) are mainly images that accompany the articles. There are two different ways to upload images. The first way is to use the upload wizard, which can be found at WP:Upload. The wizard allows you to easily add an image by pre-adding the appropriate template to the image itself based upon what kind of image is being uploaded. Once the correct type had been selected, you will be directed to the upload form.
  • In this form, the first thing to do is press Browse and select the file you want to upload from your local PC.
  • Then, type a Destination Filename. This is the name where the file can be accessed at.
  • Following that, fill in the summary as far as you can. If you cannot fill in a certain field either remove it or leave or blank
  • Last, select the License Type. Note that adding a correct license is important! If the file remains without license, or the image doesn't comply to Knowledge (XXG):Image use policy it is likely to be removed.
  • Once done, press Upload File
Presto, you are done. You can now add the image to a page by adding two brackets with the image between it, like this: ]. Note that in this case i added two nowiki tags, which prevent wikipedia from converting the code to an image (Rather hard to see what i typed otherwise, don't you think? :))
Well, so much for this i think. If you need any further explanation on this or anything else, ask away i would say! :) Excirial 20:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Panic_Poster_2008.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Panic_Poster_2008.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Knowledge (XXG) articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 06:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

News from the diamond
From the Editors

Baseball has a history unlike any other sport. It has been played in countless countries throughout the decades, and it will undoubtedly continue play for many more. On this eve, some the finest players the sport has to offer will take the field at the Yankee Stadium. Four popes spoke there, Pelé scored goals there, "The Greatest Game Ever Played" was battled out there, John Philip Sousa lead a band there, George Costanza worked there; but what do all these events have in common? They fail to reach the level of greatness that the baseball that was played there did.

In 1923, a man named Babe Ruth decided to build a new house, and over the years, that house was a home to some of the greatest baseball ever played. If I were to list out all of these great moments, it would be longer than the bill for the New Yankee Stadium. So I'll sum it up by saying that we can remember these great moments by adding them to this place we've gathered at for future generations to read about, to learn about, to dream about; but more importantly we can watch tonight and we can remember how baseball is unlike anything else that we will encounter in our lives. — Blackngold29

WikiProject Films roll call and coordinator elections

Roll call and Coordinator nominations

It's that time of year again – we're wiping everyone's name off of the active members list and doing a project roll call. Your username is listed on the WikiProject Films participants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. You can also add your name to any of our many task forces!

It's also time to start the WikiProject Films coordinator selection process! We are aiming to elect seven coordinators to serve for the next six months; if you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 (UTC) on September 14!

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Knowledge (XXG):Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Knowledge (XXG), the đź’•". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Knowledge (XXG) and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold 03:22, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

  • The members list is currently under review so we have moved all past active member's name to a Incumbent List and are doing a Project Roll Call. If you still consider yourself an active WP:NOVELS editor, please add your name back to the Active Members List. You may also wish to add your name to any of our many Project Task Forces.
Task force news
Novel-related news
  • Devil May Care, written by Sebastian Faulks ("writing as Ian Fleming"), has become Penguin Books fastest selling hardcover fiction title. It is the latest installment in the book series about British secret agent James Bond and was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of late Bond creator Ian Fleming's birthday on May 28, 1908.
  • Me Cheeta: the Autobiography, written by a ghostwriter, is the autobiography of Cheeta the Chimp who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest recorded non-human primate at the age of 76. He has appeared in various movie roles which included twelve Tarzan movies and even battled addiction to alcohol and cigars. The book is not published until October 1, but judges for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award were sent a early version and were so impressed that they have included it on the 10-strong longlist.
  • Stephenie Meyer, who is listed by Time magazine as one of its 100 most influential people of 2008, has decided not to continue with writing her draft for Midnight Sun after 12 chapters of the unfinished manuscript were leaked on the internet.
Current debates
  • Categories for Discussion has a series of discussions about whether to categorize certain specific types of fictional characters: double agents, dictators, characters with eidetic memory, etc. Advice from any Novels project members would be valuable in assisting them.
  • WikiProject Media franchises aims to help editors with the coordination of articles within the thousands of media franchises which exist and has requested input from our members. They are currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Since this may affect one or more articles in our Novel project, they would like to get opinions before implimenting any changes.
From the Members

With the Newsletter being almost three months overdue, I have decided to take on the position of Editor to make sure it reaches you regularly on time each month. The Newsletter is meant to inspire and encourage our team of Editors and so my goal shall be to make it informative and interesting each issue.

We now have many positions vacant in our Project Team, so we are looking for members who have the time and interest to take on the various roles, details of which can be found at the Job Centre. Shortly a Coordinator nominations notice shall also be sent out to all members, which will commence the annual Coordinator selection process.

Next month's Newsletter will include a message from our Coordinator Maria, who will introduce herself and speak on our forthcoming elections for extra Coordinators.

Image without license

Unspecified source/license for Image:Tokio hotel.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tokio hotel.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Knowledge (XXG)'s policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Knowledge (XXG) can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Knowledge (XXG):Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot 01:20, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Taylor lautner.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Taylor lautner.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Knowledge (XXG) under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Knowledge (XXG). If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Knowledge (XXG) (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Knowledge (XXG) page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:26, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Yllosubmarine (talk · contribs) has been a member of the Novels WikiProject for nearly two years, and a coordinator since May. Aside from her work outside the project (including four FAs and six GAs in various areas), she has been active in the Project's Assessment and Peer Review departments. She hopes to continue in these roles as well as help encourage more activity and community research within the Project. With the upcoming coordinator election, she hopes that others will volunteer to become more active in their roles as Project members so that we can continue to provide quality articles to the readers of this encyclopedia.

Current debates
From the Outreach Department

On the advice of Coordinator Maria, the newsletter is now only distributed to active listed members of the Novels Project. A new section has started with this issue called 'In Focus', which will feature various members and task forces each month.

Members are requested to post any news items to the Tip Line (found above) to make sure it reaches the next newsletter before closing date, which is always the last day of the preceding month. Any task force news should be added by the coordinator of that task force. Having news items helps inform members of what is happening at the various task forces and so can be a way of encouraging more membership and participation.

Editors are required to assist with the newsletter for Task Force News and Peer Reviews & Assessments News, which involves the gathering of news items from the main project and the various task forces. These positions may be applied for at the Job Centre.

  • Hi, I have been around this project for quite some time now. Bit of a hiatus earlier this year, but back now just contributing. The Novels WikiProject wasn't started by me but my interest in the subject initially attracted me to what was here. It has developed substantially in the last few years and now takes in all forms of Narrative Prose Fiction within its scope. We are about the content not the format of the prose so WP:Books differs a little in that an implied format is entailed; also they can also focus more clearly on non-fiction. WP:Literature are the "new boys on the block" and are a little more focused on the "quality" aspects of literature, and again they have less emphasis on pure fiction and the prose aspect. Our biggest problem is to maintain a certain focus of interest across such a broad subject area and we need workers who can develop task forces, teams for assessment, teams for peer review and so much more. "So much to do, so little time, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late" to misquote from Alice in Wonderland.

Thank you for getting this newsletter back on its feet and going again. No Boylo equals no Novels Portal...heck, without you, we wouldn't have had a newsletter for these past months...so, for all of the members of the Novels WikiProject, I want to thank you for the time and effort you have put into this project, and I wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Speedy deletion of File:Teddy-geiger.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Teddy-geiger.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Knowledge (XXG). This has been done under section I4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image with an unknown source or an unknown copyright status which has been tagged as such for more than 7 days, and it still lacks the necessary information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on ] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Knowledge (XXG)'s policies and guidelines. —Snigbrook 19:08, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

The Novels WikiProject Newsletter
Issue 28 - November 2008
From the Coordinators

As you can see, this is about as bare-bones of a newsletter as you can get. The reason for this is that the newsletter has and will be inactive, but we wanted to get a last one out detailing the current state of our project. The truth is that WP:NOVELS is in bad shape. Only a few editors are active in editing inside of our project. Our Peer Review section, this newsletter, our task forces, and our collaboration center are all dead; although a collab is picked each month, not a lot of work seems to occur.

Out of these ashes, we are proposing that the project start an A-class review system. This will hopefully bring people together for reviewing, and will perhaps get the project some sorely-needed attention from others who can come in and help rehabilitate it. Final plans have not been established, but we will see about getting a mass message out to all of the project members if/when it is set up; discussion of this can be conducted on the General Forum.

This newsletter will probably be the last we will have for a long time, as neither Ed nor Kevinalewis have the time to create these every month. However, if any editor is willing to step up and create one, we would be glad to assist you in making it up.

If you don't want to create a newsletter, but would still like to help, there are plenty of things that can be done. As detailed on the right, the Novels Peer Review section has four articles needing attention, but only one review has been done; one from May, one from November, and one from December have not had any comments left on them. Please consider helping out there; even a 15-minute review would help.

Your coords,

–Kevinalewis (talk · contribs) and the_ed17 (talk · contribs)

Member news
  • Talk between Kevinalewis and the_ed17, the two project coordinators, has led to us deciding to suspend elections for coordinators indefinitely. With the exceedingly low amount of participation in the last elections (five total votes), we do not feel that it is worth it to try to set up another election.
  • 20 positions remain unfilled at the Job Centre. Members who are active project contributors are encouraged to apply even if they can only do a position for a short time.

WikiProject Piracy participation update

Hello Panic!out,

WikiProject Piracy is currently undergoing some updates and changes, and we are trying to find out who is still active in the project. You are currently listed as a participant on the list of participants, and we would like for you to update your status. Please move your name to the section that best describes your activity in the project:

  • Active - still active and interested within the scope of the WikiProject.
  • Semi-Active - still active on Knowledge (XXG), but not as active in regards to the WikiProject.
  • Former Members - a catch-all classification for those editors who are not active on Knowledge (XXG), those that are still on Knowledge (XXG), but no longer part of this WikiProject, or those that have otherwise not moved their names to another classification yet.

Thank you,

  • Hi, I have been a member of this project for a few months now, and after finally gotten to grips with Knowledge (XXG) I have decided to take on the role of writing this newsletter (currently by myself, but any help would be appreciated) with some helpful tips from The Ed17. After undertaking this I realise why it was so difficult to keep it going. I will, however, persevere. From the members, I would encourage you to vote in the Coordinator elections, and take up roles at the Job Centre. The project has struggled recently, and I am hoping to try and revive it. If, with the publication of this newsletter, there are a couple of things that aren't quite up-to-date (like the Collaboration part), you can be certain I am working on it. I will be trying to get a newsletter out on around the 21st of every month. Finally, thanks for the help Ed. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

From the Outreach Department

This is my first attempt at the newsletter, and I hope it at least gets close to the previous high standards set by Kevinalewis and The Ed17. I will once again encourage you to vote in the Coordinator elections, as I hope it could be the springboard to revitalise the project. I'll keep working on the newsletter, partially because I like the stress, and partially because we need it to get members and would-be members interested. Hopefully the start of great things. Regards, Alan.

  • Because there has been little activity on our Collaboration page for a long time, I have made an executive decision, and chosen The Tin Drum as our Collaboration of the month.

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Knowledge (XXG):Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Knowledge (XXG):Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Knowledge (XXG):Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Knowledge (XXG) who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

Need a page for one of the American Idol Finalist

I'm messaging you to inquire whether or not you can create an artist page for an artist that I currently work for. She was an American Idol top finalist , Olivia Rox, and is releasing her debut album so we really need a wikipedia page for her. So if you can reach back to me as soon as possible with information on what your fees are and how fast you can publish a page, I would greatly appreciate it.
