Welcome!

Hello, Icarusgeek, and welcome to Knowledge (XXG)! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Active, as distinct from "redundant" - for example All Saints Church, Harthill; that is the general understanding of the term. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 17:05, 19 August 2009 (UTC) Hey I m abid khan son

Referencing

Would you have any objection to using the 'reflist' system at Irish International Exhibition (1907). I added my minor contrib. with this system and assumed it was correctly ref'd, but the cite did not appear because of formatting incompatibility. Reflist seems now to be usual practice across the 'pedia. I'll 'rejig' your refs in accordance, if you agree with this change. Best. RashersTierney (talk) 23:32, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

No objection at all :-) Icarusgeek (talk) 18:16, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Reverted

Please take care to look at dates and years. Fyodor Schechtel, who died in 1926, had nothing to do with the pavilion built for the 1939 exhibition (which was designed by V. A. Ashastin). The 1923 exhibition was held at a different location (present-day Gorky Park). Schechtel's pavilion represented not Turkmenistan but Turkestan, i.e. Central Asia in general.

"Several brightly coloured buildings" at the 1901 Glasgow exhibition need more research. All contemporary images that I saw don't look like "brightly coloured" - just ordinary log buildings, but then of course it's black and white photographs. Schechtel's own drafts show quite a bunch of colours, but these were dark colours (dark crimson, purple, dark blue) mixed with natural untreated wood. NVO (talk) 01:06, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

I've taken your hangon off because there wasn't a speedy tag there. Speedy was declined in December 2010. There is a multiple maintenance tag, but those sometimes stay there for years. Peridon (talk) 13:30, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Research survey invitation

Greetings Icarusgeek-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Knowledge (XXG) editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Knowledge (XXG) editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Knowledge (XXG) User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 04:02, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Updates to this article take a lot of time and care. Kindly avoid reverting other's text unless there is an obvious mistake in the facts. Duration is perfectly apt term. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.182.98.14 (talk) 17:41, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Maintenance categories and HotCat

I saw you recently added Category:Orphaned articles to Brogramming using HotCat. That category and other maintenance categories listed under Category:Knowledge (XXG) maintenance categories sorted by month should not be added directly to articles; instead you should use the corresponding maintenance templates such as {{Orphan}}. HTH. Anomie 03:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

OK Will do. Thanks Icarusgeek (talk) 16:33, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Nuto mileva

Hey, thanks for helping out with new page patrol, as you did on Nuto mileva. FYI, articles that aren't written in English actually don't fit the criteria for speedy deletion unless the same content exists on another Wikimedia project. In this case would have been better to tag the article with {{not english}}. See WP:CSD#A2 for more information. Thanks again! causa sui (talk) 19:03, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

That's so nice of you. Thank you Icarusgeek (talk) 15:56, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Please correct the changes you did to my styling of references back to what they were. Yours is not the recommended style and for good reason because and it causes problems with the programming and the articles, especially when other editors come in to it with their own styling of referencing as well. What happens is that the article is a combination of referencing styles and it looks a complete mess. They also edit (in between) the other references and that too causes problems. There was no reason to change them. Your preferred method does not work on Knowledge (XXG) very well. It is also against Knowledge (XXG) policy guidelines to change other editor's valid references.

I have been here a long time and I know what happens so please change them back. Thank you. Mugginsx (talk) 20:25, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Dabbing Sunderland

Hi, you may not be aware, but Tyne and Wear did not exist before 1974. To give the correct historical context when discussing the location of Sunderland before the, dab to ] Mjroots (talk) 08:11, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for poiting this out Mjroots. Doubly embarrassing as (i) I think I corrected something similar elsewhere and I (ii) also have a horrendous feeling that I lived in County Durham when the boundaries were re-drawn Icarusgeek (talk) 13:33, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Cheers

I'm (very) late saying this but thankyou for appreciating my update comments back in (*blushes*) September 2011. I was very touched, albeit in such a way that it took far too long to say so. --Zagrebo (talk) 16:56, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Zagrebo, Thanks for appreciating the comments - and it was nice that it was a few months on, as I got to appreciate them all over again. Icarusgeek (talk) 08:01, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Bronze sculptures

Thanks for joining in this work! I don't myself think the whole category should be diffused to national subs. The current four are probably enough. I've become aware that many of the more recent ones exist in several copies, which the articles are not good at saying (especially the Smithsonian ones). These should stay in the main category I think, & also the infoboxes should be less specific. Johnbod (talk) 16:17, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Exposition Internationale de l'Est de la France

For Exposition Internationale de l'Est de la France, there are two 1909 categories and the Architecture category, but no Exposition category. In fact, Exposition is a disambiguation page, with Trade fair as the relevant category. Was the Exposition Internationale de l'Est de la France a trade fair? I hope you see that I am puzzled by the fact that the three categories for this article do not cover the reason there is an article, there was an Exposition. Looking at other Exposition articles, I find the same thing, unless, of course, it was a World's Fair.

Please reply here, I am watching the page. --DThomsen8 (talk) 11:24, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Such a good question. And I have been inconsistent in adding a navbar for World's Fairs, but not adding it to such an appropriate World's fair category. I came across it as a redlink from the List of World's Fairs webpage which suggests a World's fair.
Art exhibition would be a good additional category (but not sufficient in itself)
It wasn't a trade fair.

All articles require reliable sources to verify them and demonstrate notability - articles you have created such as 1959 in South African sport are completely inappropriate in this respect. Please do not mass-create such poor, unreferenced articles. If you need any guidance, please ask. Regards, GiantSnowman 11:19, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The 14th China Nutrition and Health Industry Expo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Knowledge (XXG). This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Knowledge (XXG) takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Knowledge (XXG) to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Knowledge (XXG):Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Knowledge (XXG):Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Knowledge (XXG)'s policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Knowledge (XXG)'s policies and guidelines.
