Hi

Can u please remove the message bar..Its disturbing--E Renault Talk + 11:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

BE, FYI, see my talk page -- Tinu Cherian - 11:18, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey Edge! I think that the message bars are not allowed if they are exact visual copies of the normal message bar....I have no idea where it says that, but I remember seeing something about it somewhere.... I, personally, don't think that it is that big of a deal though. :) Cheers! —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 16:52, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for stepping in Tinu, your point about lots of others using it, is indeed very much true. I copied from another user (whose name I forget), and have seen plenty others use it too. Whether it be cheeky links to signature pages or whatever. You say that it disrupts navigation, well I can hardly see what the problem is if all you have to do is click Back to resume normal browsing. Blooded Edge (TCA) 19:03, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, pal... Why don't you link the parenthesis so it's not exactly the same? ;DEd 17 for President Vote for Ed 19:05, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Erm, come again? I'm not familiar with the term 'parenthesis' =| Blooded Edge (TCA) 19:06, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Parenthesis = these things: ( ) :D —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 19:07, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, there is already a slight difference. Notice how the second bracket is boldened in the real message alert, but not so on my fake. Is that not enough? :( Blooded Edge (TCA) 19:11, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Lol probably. :) —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 19:13, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
I actually only noticed that when I was thinking of a way to change it per your request XD. Blooded Edge (TCA) 19:14, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

False New Message Bar

I have removed your false new message bar. This is because our guideline on simulated interface messages in userpages states that this is generally found to be disruptive, and cases of their use should be removed except when they are used in testing. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, however please do not re-add the bar. Mine was removed also. ṜέđṃάяķvюĨїήīṣŢ 15:19, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I re-added it for the moment, as he can remove it himself, or change it to how he wants it. Cheers, —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 15:21, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
See WP:SMI, Edge. :) —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 15:25, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Mine was deleted also, not by me. It is not up to him to remove it. Unless he his changing it to the message above, it should be removed. ṜέđṃάяķvюĨїήīṣŢ 18:05, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
My goodness. Let him at least get on to the internet before you go and remove it... He'll remove it, but he's perfectly capable of doing that on his own, and a couple of hours won't hurt anyone. Cheers, —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 18:15, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Ed. He's usually on the wiki later, at about 2200 UTC or around there, so wait a while. —La Pianista 19:12, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Sorry that I have been unable to contact you guys, reasons are given below. For the time being, I have removed the fake message bar as it has just caused too much hassle for my liking. Thanks to those who defended it anyway, it really means a lot to me :). Blooded Edge (TCA) 15:18, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

RfA

Hi Blooded Edge! Thank you very much for your questions and support in my RfA, which passed yesterday. I hope not to let you and the others down and use the tools for the benefit of the project. Cheers, Ynhockey 21:00, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

No problems, I hope you use your new powers responsibly :). Blooded Edge (TCA) 14:55, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello?

Are you still around, Blooded Edge? You haven't edited since 24th October, so I'm beginning to worry if you've suddenly decided to leave (I have seen enough good editors leaving this month). Or are you on a break? Chamal 12:36, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

I second what you've got in parenthesis there Chamal. LAAFan was a very good and person... =/ —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 13:40, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
True... Not only LAAFan, I've seen two more editors (though not as notable as him) retiring from Knowledge (XXG) this month. If that's not enough, several experienced editors seem to be slowing down their contributions, almost semi-active :( Chamal 14:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
This beats them all: Just saw that Possum (RyanLupin) is also gone. Gaaaarhhhhh! What is happening??? Chamal 15:05, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Zomg.... -_- Watch, SandyGeorgia will be next... —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 15:12, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
First of all, I would like to apologise for my sudden vanishing. I was on a World War One battlefields tour through France and Belgium, visiting forts, memorials and the lot, so yeah.
Secondly, I hate the timing of this, but I am placing myself on an indefinite wiki-break. I just have so much work to do at the moment, and so many things to deal with that Knowledge (XXG) has almost no time left for my participation in. Please note I am not doing this for attention or pity, but for my own good. There are thousands of other editors out there who can easily cover for me, though I will pop in and out over the coming 6 months or so. Thanks to everyone who has shown me so much support so far, people like Chamal, Pianista, Ed, Spittlespat, Tinu Cherian and Xenocidic have my ultimate respect. Sheesh, this sounds as if I'm saying adios for goot (which I'm not). Chances are I'll be back up to full steam when I get the exams done and dusted with :). Blooded Edge (TCA) 15:16, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

See you later then...

It's sad to hear that you are leaving, even temporarily. Knowledge (XXG) has 8,180,000+ registered users, but good ones are very few and you are among them. I really hope you will come back. Good luck with your exams :) BTW, you deserve the barnstar more than me.

The Special Barnstar
This is awarded to Blooded Edge, for being a great editor and friend. You were (and will be, I hope) active in many areas of Knowledge (XXG), and did well in all those areas. We joined Knowledge (XXG) around the same time, but the difference between our edits and how much we've learned in that time is obvious. You are the better man, without any doubt. Chamal 15:43, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
This is very touching Chamal, Knowledge (XXG) really is lucky to have users such as yourself aboard, the project really does have a future. No matter what you say, you deserved yours just as much man, thanks for your support :). Blooded Edge (TCA) 15:46, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Have fun with your exams and do well, pal.... Whenever you get back, we'll be waiting! —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 16:54, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
And you know, shut up. :) "There are thousands of other editors out there who can easily cover for me". Oh, whatever. No person could replace you, Edge! See ya around pal, and drop me a line when you are in. Cheers! —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 17:39, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, you'd better not be "adios for goot." :D :D :D
See ya around pal - whenever! ;) —La Pianista 19:13, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Cheers! (and thanks for the award!)--Spittlespat 21:44, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Project At a Glance

As of October 2008, the project has:

Changes to Featured and Good articles, lists, and topics

News
Feature: Partnered reviews

For some time now, the Video games project and the Military history project have been cross listing their articles undergoing peer review in an effort to improve the quality of articles, as well as the copy editing skills of editors. The idea was first proposed by User:Krator as a way to better prepare articles for Featured article candidacy. After being approved by both projects, the idea was implemented under a trial period, and eventually approved as a standard practice.

New, cross listed military history articles are announced on the Video games project talk page, and listed on the Video games Peer review page under a special section. Video game editors are encouraged to leave any type of comments that come to mind. If you don't know anything about military history, that's perfectly fine because that's the point. An editor lacking knowledge about the particular topic can provide a helpful point of view as a general reader—the intended audience.

If you have a video game article undergoing peer review that you think would benefit from an outside view, post the following boilerplate at WT:MILHIST: {{subst:Knowledge (XXG):WikiProject Military history/Coordinators/Toolbox/Partner peer review notice|Name of article|Raw link to review|Video games}} ~~~~

Things to remember
  • A peer review process such as this will not work if editors do not give as well as take.
  • Peer reviews are meant to examine not just the prose, but the sources and images used in the article.
  • Feedback can range from brief comments after skimming through a page to a full blown dissection of grammar, structure, and references. Either way, every bit helps.
  • Reviewing another editor's article can help sharpen your writing skills, which in turn can improve the articles you write.

Article of the month - 2008 Belgian Grand Prix, current Good Article Candidate

The 2008 Belgian Grand Prix (formally the LXIV ING Belgian Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on September 7, 2008, at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Spa, Belgium. It was the 13th race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 44 laps, was won by Felipe Massa for the Ferrari team, after the initial winner, McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, was penalised for cutting a chicane and gaining an advantage over Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen.

Hamilton started from pole position alongside title rival Massa. Hamilton's McLaren team-mate Heikki Kovalainen started from third next to the 2007 winner Kimi Räikkönen. Following a spin by Hamilton on the second lap, Räikkönen led the race, until rain fell on lap 41 and Hamilton performed the penalised pass. Räikkönen crashed in the following lap as rain started raining heavily. Massa finished second on the road after Hamilton, followed by Nick Heidfeld of BMW Sauber.

Hamilton received a drive-through penalty, which demoted him to third place and advanced Massa and Heidfeld to first and second positions. McLaren appealed the decision at the FIA International Court of Appeal. Their case, however, was judged inadmissible, with the Court ruling that drive-through penalties cannot be challenged. The penalty created a large amount of criticism from the global press, mainly from the United Kingdom and Italy, with several former drivers questioning the decision. Massa's retrospective win, with Hamilton demoted to third, narrowed the gap in the Championship from six points to just two.

Yeah it's a relief to talk to a Brit for once since I don't have to worry about time zones. It's only 6:30pm where my adopter lives, so he goes on editing till about 05:00am UTC. Have a good evening (what's left of it!) Ollie Fury Contribs 23:32, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
    He--don't be biased against Americans now.... :) —Ed 17  23:40, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I've got nothing against Americans- it's just slightly difficult working out whether it's likely you'll be on or not. Like if I logged on at 10am here, I would then remember that it's 5am where you are- and that you would probably not be on a computer! Ollie Fury Contribs 23:57, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I know, I was kidding. :) I normally get on at about 9am my time (2pm yours) Monday–Thursday if you have to catch me, but that is probably the earliest (unless, for some weird reason I am on at 3am one weekend) you'll find me on. Just an FYI! :) —Ed 17  00:12, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

    Hi there

How are you dude, my adoptee ? I guess you are doing well. -- Tinu Cherian - 09:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Not too badly, I don't have as much homework as I expected. Only major thing that is coming up in the near future is my school scholarship application in history tomorrow. 90 minutes test and an interview as well, so I've got my work cut-out XD. Blooded Edge 18:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

    Hey!

Hi, B.E.! How are ya? You've been missed. Sorry for the late message, I always assumed you were only preparing to retire permanently. This would have come sooner had I known you only semi-retired. :)La Pianista 00:29, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Permenant retiremant? Not a chance! I'm touched that people do miss me, but it can't really be helped :(. Anywho, I'm fine at the moment, how have you been doing? Blooded Edge 21:49, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
As well as can be expected with Ed as a comrade...any reader of my talk page can tell you how hard it is to be hit on every six hours. (jk)
Marvelous. :) Just passed a major piano audition - and my family and I are prepping for Thanksgiving. I think we only celebrate it in the US and Canada, but I may be wrong. —La Pianista 00:11, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Lol. Anyway, about your auditions, what did you apply for? A concert? Band? Or something else? As for thanksgiving, I think American immigrants in other countries may celebrate it as well :). Blooded Edge 19:37, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Audition for a trophy. *embarrassed* It's actually a pretty ugly trophy, but you get to play at an honors recital with all the faculty and parents watching - which can either be a curse or blessing depending on how you look at it.
Ah. I think so - we have an Indian family friend in Toronto, and he still celebrates American holidays (though albeit with the occasional, habitual "eh?" every once in a while). Happy holidays, and even if they are not the same holidays as we celebrate, may they be equally blessed. :) —La Pianista 01:04, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Article of the month - 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, current Good Article candidate.

The 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix (formally the XXXVII Grande Prêmio Santander do Brasil) was a Formula One motor race held on November 2 2008, at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Interlagos, in São Paulo, Brazil. It was the 18th and final race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 71 laps, was won by Felipe Massa after starting from pole position. Fernando Alonso finished second in a Renault, and Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari.

Before the race, Drivers' Championship leader Lewis Hamilton had received heated criticism in the British press for his aggressive driving style at the Japanese Grand Prix three weeks previously. There, Hamilton's late braking at the first corner sent Räikkönen off the road and saw the McLaren driver relegated to the back of the field after a penalty.

Massa started the race alongside Toyota driver Jarno Trulli. Massa's Ferrari team-mate Räikkönen began from third next to Hamilton. Rain fell minutes before the race, delaying the start, and as the track dried Massa established a lead of several seconds. More rain in the closing laps did not prevent Hamilton from finishing the race in fifth position, securing him the points needed to take the Championship.

    Project At a Glance

As of November 2008, the project has:

Changes to Featured and Good articles, lists, and topics

    News
    Feature: Article Importance

Article importance is an assessment of a topic's importance in understanding a specific higher level topic. Assessments are maintained by WikiProjects and reflect the project's view of what is essential to understanding their scope. In the VG Project's case, all importance scales are in terms of understanding video games.

A video game article's importance is listed and set in the {{WikiProject Video games}} template on its talk page. An assessment of importance can be done by the Assessment Department by submitting a request.

Recent discussions at the VG Project's talk page have called for revisions to the practice of assigning article importance. The discussion began in mid-November with the goal of clarifying what level of importance should be assigned to certain type of articles. It eventually expanded to creating a standardized table of importance to serve as a guide for current and future editors.

The discussion has focused on and shifted to several topics including flaws of previous practices, new ways to view assessment, other project practices to emulate, and specific articles which are exceptions to proposed guidelines. A brief pole and discussion determined most editors felt that the bulk of some topics—specifically individual video game, series, and character articles—were not essential to understanding video games, making them ineligible for top importance. The discussion then shifted to tweaking the wording and layout of the table.

The current proposed table is being discussed on the project's talk page, and the issue of whether some topics—specifically character articles—should be allowed to be rated importance has also been brought up. As always, member are encouraged to voice their opinions and engage in discussion to determine consensus so the new assessment scale can be implemented.

See past newsletter feature for more information about the Assessment Department.

Article of the month - Damon Hill, kept at Featured Article status after review.

Damon Graham Devereux Hill OBE (born 17 September 1960) is a retired British racing driver from England. In 1996 Hill won the Formula One World Championship; as the son of the late Graham Hill, he is the only son of a world champion to win the title. His father died in a plane crash when Hill was 15, leaving the family in reduced circumstances and Hill came to professional motorsports at the relatively late age of 23 by racing motorcycles. After some minor success, he moved on to single-seater racing cars, and progressed steadily up the ranks to the International Formula 3000 championship by 1989, where although often competitive he never won a race.

Hill became a test driver for the Formula One title-winning Williams team in 1992. He was unexpectedly promoted to the Williams race team the following year after 1992 champion Nigel Mansell's departure and took the first of his 22 victories at the 1993 Hungarian Grand Prix. During the mid 1990s, Hill was Michael Schumacher's main rival for the Formula One Driver's Championship. The two clashed on and off the track; their collision at the 1994 Australian Grand Prix gave Schumacher his first title by a single point. Hill won the 1996 World Drivers' Championship, but was dropped by Williams for the following season. He went on to drive for the less competitive Arrows and Jordan teams, and in 1998 gave Jordan its first win.

Hill retired from racing after the 1999 season. He has since launched several businesses as well as making appearances playing the guitar with celebrity bands. In 2006, he became president of the British Racing Drivers' Club, succeeding Jackie Stewart.

    Feature: Video game notability

Video game related articles fall under niche categories on Knowledge (XXG): "Culture and the arts" and "Everyday life". Because of this, they are often required to demonstrate notability more than other topics. Knowledge (XXG) defines notability as "worthy of notice", and considers it distinct from fame, importance, and popularity. Though it is acknowledge to be related to fame and the like, it is important understand that being famous, important, or popular does not mean a video game article should be on Knowledge (XXG).

Being notable means that a topic has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Knowledge (XXG)'s policy also stipulates that this only presumes to "satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." This means that though an article may meet the criteria on paper, it is up to the community to decide if a topic truly is notable and/or violates other policies such as WP:NOT. In short, just because a video game, character, or related topic exists, does not mean it should also exist as a Knowledge (XXG) article.

    Dealing with non-notable topics

Articles that do not meet the criteria are either deleted or merged into a relevant topic.

    • WP:Articles for deletion (AfD) handles the deletion of non-notable articles, among other types, and has an established process to begin discussions about reasons for deletion.
    • If an article is a subarticle of a larger topic, merging it into the larger topic article is a more desirable action. For example, the main character of a video may not be notable, but has received some mentions in reviews. It would benefit both topics, the character and its video game, to include the content into the article of the video game; essentially using a small, weaker article to strengthen a larger more notable article.
    Things to remember
    • The best way to show notability is to provide reliable sources about the topic.
    • Notability is less about keeping articles out of Knowledge (XXG) and more about making sure readers are provided articles about significant, quality topics.
    • While you may think a topic is notable, others may disagree. Try to keep a clear perspective when assessing notability so discussions can reach a consensus.
    • AfD is more of a last resort and is not always the best course of action to take.
    • Consider starting a merger discussion first, as some editors may not fully understand why an article they started is not suitable for Knowledge (XXG).

    Speedylook.com and Asafa Powell

Hey, just dropping you a line about my reverting your edit to Asafa Powell citing Speedylook.com as a source. Speedylook.com is a really bad source, as all of its articles are pure machine translations of the French wikipedia. This means that it's subject to the inaccuracies of a wiki less maintained than this one, as well as additional errors from translation etc. Just wanted to let you know, so that you know I'm not just being a dicke! Best wishes, – Toon 00:17, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

    Asafa Powell editing.

    Hello,

I am curious why information on the death of the two Powell brothers is deemed to be irrelevant to Asafa Powell, especially when it is noted that both events occurred in the week of the Jamaica National trials, and of further note is that Asafa received the news of the death of one brother when actually on his way to the Stadium.

Surely such information on his siblings is relevant to the man himself?

    Toyracerx (talk) 16:28, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Of course they are significant events in Asafa's life, but there is reason to my madness. The yearly sub-headings are there to summarise Asafa's performances on the TRACK during that time period. If his performance in a race was significantly hindered due to the news of family death(s), then by all means add the evidence and a few quotes. If I remember rightly, your version of the article at the time did not say that Asafa was under-performing as a result of the deaths. In that sense, it really doesn't fit in the context of that sub-section. However, feel free to start a new section labelled 'Personal life', and document the passing away of his brothers in that, along with other informational snippets about Asafa's life off the track. I hope you see what I mean. Blooded Edge 17:09, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

    2008

Formula One, abbreviated to F1, is the highest class of open-wheeled auto racing defined by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body. The "formula" in the name refers to a set of rules to which all participants and cars must conform. The F1 world championship season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix, held usually on purpose-built circuits, and in a few cases on closed city streets. The most famous Grand Prix is the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo. The results of each race are combined to determine two annual Championships, one for drivers and one for constructors.

Michael Schumacher holds the record for the most Grand Prix victories, having won 91 times. Alain Prost, is second with 51 wins, and Ayrton Senna is third, with 41 wins. Michael Schumacher holds the distinction of having the longest time between his first win and his last. He won his first Grand Prix in 1992 at the Belgian Grand Prix, and his last in 2006 at the Chinese Grand Prix, a gap that spans 14 years, 1 month and 1 day. The youngest winner of a Grand Prix is Sebastian Vettel, who was 21 years, 73 days old when he won the 2008 Italian Grand Prix. Luigi Fagioli is the oldest winner of a Formula One Grand Prix; he was 53 years and 22 days old when he won the 1951 French Grand Prix.

    RE:Your failure

I'm disappointed, my clone. You'd think that having the same signature as me would make you cooler, but nooo... you like internet explorer... :P Just kidding. My userpage probably looks like crap, though (not that it doesn't anyway). How's things? Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 04:26, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Lol, I thought I was banned or something XD. My conscience wouldn't let me rip your format any longer, I couldn't bear it =C. I have a computer nerd at school who constantly mocks me for using IE and Vista, much like how you're doing now =p. Your userpage doesn't look bad, although there are a load of boxes floating around in odd places... Anywho, I'm good, yourself? Blooded Edge (TCA) 18:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Lol, sorry. I'm just a diehard Firefox fan. Too bad about the wayward boxes. And I'm pretty good - life is hectic, haha. Final year of highschool, so there's a bunch of assignments to be turned in, exams to be written, university applications to be filed... thankfully it's not stressful though. You started considering universities/the like yet (I saw on your userpage that you're writing your GCSE's, so I assume this means something :P)? Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 22:57, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Lol, its no biggie. Well, at some point in the next few months, we have to submit our AS subject choices (4) to study in the Sixth Form. At the moment, I don't really have to think too much about Uni applications, I still have a year or two to panic over them. For now, my concentration is on GCSEs, I'll be so glad to get them out of the way. They've really been an epic pain in the rear over the past few weeks in particular. Good luck with all your jobs though! Blooded Edge (TCA) 22:31, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I know the feeling. Getting big tasks out of the way is a huge relief, 'int it? And thanks, hopefully I don't melt into a puddle by the end of this week. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :D 03:12, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Changes to Featured and Good content

    News
    Featured editor:

This issue we are trying a new type of newsletter feature: "Featured editor". This is a chance to learn more about the various editors who contribute to the Video games project as well as the roles they fill. If you enjoyed this new feature and would like to see similar interviews in future issues, please drop us a note at the VG newsletter talk page.

David Fuchs (also known as Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs), is a long time video games editor that has written a large number of the project's Featured articles. He has been ranked high on Knowledge (XXG):List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations, and has assisted in reviewing and editing more many. Recently David has begun to assist with image reviews for Featured article candidates, and branched out into other types of articles in addition to video games. He can normally been seen on the project's talk page offering advice and his input on the various discussion taking place there.

    1. What drew you to Knowledge (XXG), and what prompted you to begin editing?
I got involved due in part to (I believe, my memory is fuzzy) finding the site while doing research for Advanced Placement Europen History during high school. My earliest contributions (in December 2005) were creating topics based on what I learned, as well as creating an article for my high school with another friend. I soon became involved with editing topics related to Halo video game franchise, specifically the article on the parasitic Flood.
    2. What got you involved in writing Featured articles?
I think for most editors it's a shiny accomplishment you are striving for, and natural for most editors to try and get an FA. I first nominated an article for FA in 2007, after about a year of inactivity onwiki; it didn't pass as it was poorly written and didn't follow our guidelines for writing about fiction; I also took a couple of tries to get my first video game FA (Halo 2).
    3. What article(s) are you most proud of writing or exemplifies your best work?
I suppose Myst is a sort of accomplishment I can point to; I started work on the article on May 2 2008, when it looked like this, and submitted it to Featured Article Candidates one day later. I think that's some kind of record, but I dunno. In terms of being a good read or something I'm very happy with, however, I'd have to look at my more recent work, specifically Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Bone Wars.
    4. How do you pick the articles you work on?
Whatever hits me. There's many articles I haven't gotten around to editing and improving as planned because another article has caught my fancy.
    5. What advice would you give to editors seeking to write quality articles?
In the words of one of my favorite cartoon characters when I was a child, "We must do reeea-search!" Even in video games, online sources don't usually cut it. Even after getting an article to FA, make sure you continually trawl the internet and elsewhere for more information to add to the topic.

As of February 2009, the project has:

Changes to Featured and Good content

    News
    Feature: Weekly Collaboration

The VG Project Collaboration of the Week is a new effort to improve important video game articles of low quality. Every week, an article is random selected by AnomieBOT from the Stub-, Start-, and C-class categories that are rated either High- or Top-importance. Such topics can offer a reader a good deal of encyclopedic information about video games, but are often too underdeveloped or lacking the proper level of writing and sourcing to accomplish this.

All editors are welcome and encouraged to participate by offering their insights and suggestions. Having a pool of different editors, both old and new, will help maximize improvements to the articles as well as our editing skills.

    History

Collaborative efforts have come and gone within the VG project several times before. The first such effort, the "Gaming collaboration of the week", began in October 2004 as a result of the several other weekly collaborations popping up on Knowledge (XXG). It proved to be quite successful at improving articles to meet Knowledge (XXG)'s standard at the time, but the effort eventually saw less and less participation. A second effort, the "Improvement Drive", began in August 2005 with the intent of improving articles to FA-quality. However, few nominations and articles were selected. The decline in participation in the collaborations and peer reviews resulted in a third effort. It began in February 2006 as a workshop, but never got off the ground.

Numerous discussions have taken place on at WT:VG to jump start collaborations and improve the process to prevent its decline again. While previous collaborations selected any video game article, most editors felt focus should be on video game topics more encyclopedic in nature—topics that are also generally in poor shape because of lack of attention. A common problem mentioned was that previous nomination processes were lengthy and hindered participation. The current idea to automate the process was brought up by JohnnyMrNinja, which was further discussed to iron out the details.

    Current collaboration

The current collaborative efforts began in mid-January 2009, and several articles have been improved by editors. The random choice is intended to minimize the selection process, which allows editors to focus on article improvement. Improvements include better organization of content, massaging and copy editing the prose, removing excess non-free images, and much more. The random choice is also meant to encourage participation from editors of varying interest and help prevent burnout. If the present selection is not to your liking, wait until next week. Editors are encouraged to add Template:Collab-gaming to their watchlist to see which article is selected. Recently selected articles are:

Article of the month - 2008 Chinese Grand Prix, new Good Article

The 2008 Chinese Grand Prix (formally the V Sinopec Chinese Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on October 19, 2008 at the Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai, China. It was the 17th and penultimate race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 56 laps, was won by Lewis Hamilton for the McLaren team after starting from pole position. Ferrari driver Felipe Massa finished second, and Kimi Räikkönen was third in the other Ferrari.

Hamilton, the eventual Drivers' Champion, led the Championship going into the race, and started from pole position alongside Räikkönen. Second in the Drivers' Championship, Massa began from third, next to Fernando Alonso of Renault. The first three drivers retained their positions into the first corner, but Alonso was passed by Hamilton's McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen. However, Alonso was able to regain the place midway through the first lap. Over the course of the race, Hamilton extended a considerable lead over the two Ferraris. Massa passed Räikkönen with seven laps remaining, to improve his chances of surpassing Hamilton's points tally at the final race in Brazil.

The result extended Ferrari's lead over McLaren in the Constructors' Championship from seven to 11 points. Third-placed in the Drivers' Championship, Robert Kubica's sixth place at the Grand Prix eliminated his hopes of winning the Championship, and reduced his lead over fourth-placed Räikkönen to six points.

Re your comment on my comment on Tiffin School

OK, perhaps "stupid" was a little strong but "silly" certainly seems justified as a) it was a minor point that hardly warrants citation and b) the citation easily came from the school's own website.

But, that minor disagreement apart, you can see that I have made minor updates to many pages on topics that I know about, such as the place I live in and the bands I follow, and I will continue to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reesmf (talkcontribs) 14:37, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

The newsletter is meant to help connect editors, keep them up-to-date with the activities of the VG project, and improve the knowledge of our members. We've compiled a list of questions to help gauge the effectiveness of the newsletter's first year.

Answers will be accepted for a three week period following the deliver of the March 2009 issue on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Just to clarify, this is not an April Fools' Day gag, and we would really appreciate honest criticism. Information obtained from this poll is intend to alter the newsletter for the better. Feature: VG Barnstar
    The Video Game Barnstar
The VG Barnstar is an award given to Wikipedians recognized for efforts and contributions to improve and develop video game related articles.

The VG Barnstar is one of many Knowledge (XXG) Barnstars designed to be given to editors that have helped further the overall quality of Knowledge (XXG). It was created in February 2006 by Jacoplane—see past discussion for details—and has been given to numerous editors since. Sometimes editors with multiple Barnstars use an alternative way to display them: ribbons.

Barnstars are designed to be given by anyone, so don't be shy as everyone enjoys appreciation. If you have noticed or have been impressed with the work of an editor, feel free to let them know by placing {{subst:Barnstar VG|"message" ~~~~}} on their talk page. The template uses a parameter to include a message expressing the reasons behind the award.

    Name Change

Wow.... Your new name certainly stands out, edge. Or should that be "prost"? :P p.s. will the lionfish still be patrolling? Queenie 13:31, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Heh, yeah. All down to my unconditional love for F1. by the way, what do you mean by lionfish? =/ AyrtonProst /Contact 13:34, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
*facepalm* sorry, I got you mixed up with SimonKSK, he has a lionfish on his editnotice . So /facepalms, and sorry again! oh, and no more tb's, please, I'm watching your page. :) Queenie 13:40, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Ohhhhh, lol, no worries. Anyway, how're you doing at the moment? AyrtonProst /Contact 13:54, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Third name change... you had to have a tongue twister didn't you? Chamal 14:17, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Me? I'm fine, if a bit stuck for new ideas... Queenie 14:20, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
@Chamal - ha ha, well to be fair, this is going to be the last one - EVER. I've only changed it to keep consistent with my usernames on various F1-related forums on the net, since my interest is growing once more after the dullness of winter testing. So, how are you doing as well? AyrtonProst /Contact 14:50, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm doing ok... exams coming up in a month and I'm almost ready. I've also been watching your page for some time now, no need for the talkbacks :) Chamal 14:59, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
oh, ok. So, you have exams too? Are they GCSEs, like what I have coming up? AyrtonProst /Contact 15:05, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Advanced Levels. I don't know if they are the same though. Chamal 15:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Aaah, A-Levels, so I guess you're a year or two above me at this stage. And no, they are not the same as GCSEs, they're the next 'step' down the qualifications line. You taking AS or A2? AyrtonProst /Contact 15:15, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Both at the same time. So, GCSEs are what we call O levels? Chamal 15:20, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, since GCSEs replaced them, I guess one could say that. If I may ask, what subjects are you going to sit? AyrtonProst /Contact 15:24, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Physics, Mathematics, Computing. All nightmares :D What are you doing? Chamal 15:28, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Eugh - English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geography, History, Philosophy & Ethics, French and English Literature. Man, the whole affair blows. AyrtonProst /Contact 20:56, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

    RE: Thanks alot

    Hi there,

That certainly wasn't a problem! I just thought that I'd let you know - you might want to update the links in your navigation bar so that they point directly to your new username, instead of your old one. Also the "Contact" part of your signature is currently broken, it points to mainspace instead of this page (User talk:) space.

    Hope this helps,

The Helpful One 21:41, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I realised that the link was broken right after I posted, fixed it immediatly. I'll get down to re-formatting the nav-bar links tommorow, as I'm totally out for now. Once again, I say thanks in the light of your help. AyrtonProst /Contact 21:44, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

    Need some help

    Hi

I wonder if you can help me. I made some values on Israeli Wiki and want to translate (that is not a problem) and transfer photos from that value to English Wiki

    How should I do this?

Eh heh, I'm sorry but when it comes to coding and trans-wiki operations, I'm a complete amateur. So instead of depending on me (because I'm bound to screw up something in this), might I direct your attention to the Knowledge (XXG):Help desk and/or Knowledge (XXG):New contributors' help page? You'd be much safer asking for assitance in one of those two topics. Sorry I can't do much, but I hope you'll be able to get through all this soon with a real professional at your side.
