Deletion Sorting
Project

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Knowledge (XXG):Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Knowledge (XXG):Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Knowledge (XXG)'s deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Reviewed during NPP. No evidence of wp:notability under SNG or GNG. The sources and material are essentially all resume/CV type factoids. Previously deleted as an AFD result at Knowledge (XXG):Articles for deletion/Gene Hallman. The closest possibilities for SNG are some local specialized awards which have been put into the lead. I tried my best in Swedish language sources but could not find significant, independent coverage about this sports club, only brief mentions in listings. Not enough to pass WP:GNG Ruud Buitelaar (talk) 00:54, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Very strong keep: List or not. Bolletinen has one of the strongest sports online databases in Swedish. J 1982 (talk) 07:02, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Comment: It will be great if you can help add some references in Swedish to improve the article and prove the club's notability! Lâm (talk) 08:46, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
It has already been done with the Bolletinen source. "Maratontabell för högsta damserien 1978–2003" emans "all-time table for the women's top division 1978–2003". J 1982 (talk) 11:12, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
Comment That the publisher is reliable (which I think it most likely is) is not the only criterion for notability, though. That the club appears in a table doesn't make it notable per WP:NTEAM. I do find a bit of coverage of the table tennis section, e.g. and – though I wonder whether those newspapers might be a bit too local to really work towards showing notability. In any case, a) the spelling "Nerikes Kils SK" is more frequent than the spelling with "ä", and b) if the article is kept, it needs a lot of work, and it ought to include more than just a brief mention of the football team in the 1970s. I don't really have an opinion at the moment about its notability. --bonadea contributions talk 14:25, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

There is no WP:SIGCOV of this sailboat and thus it fails WP:GNG. PROD was contested. Would support redirection to IMOCA 60. Dclemens1971 (talk) 14:56, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, its common practice that every IMOCA 60 has its own page, like the french wikipedia (https://fr.wikipedia.org/Initiatives-C%C5%93ur_4). The importance is given by the Vendée Globe starting only in about two months. Give me some time to bring the article up to speed. V.Glas (talk) 19:19, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
@V.Glas You created the page This page was created in November 2023 and it has had no independent, reliable, secondary sources since then. That seems like plenty of time to find them and "bring the article up to speed." (I don't believe they exist, since I searched for them WP:BEFORE nominating.) As for your argument that "it's common practice," that's an WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS argument that does not rely on any actual guidelines, and we follow English Knowledge (XXG) guidelines here. What is your policy-based reason for keeping this article? One alternative, if you believe sources will be available after the Vendee Globe, is to draftify this article, which is the appropriate place for it if you're still working on finding sources. Let me know what you think. Dclemens1971 (talk) 19:32, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
First of all, I did not create the page. That was @Yachty4000. If you are looking for sources or notability, take the French article as reference. I already translated and added some parts. V.Glas (talk) 20:13, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
I apologize for my misstatement and have struck it above. Regardless there is now a week for sufficient sources to be identified. As I said, I didn’t find any that fit the bill (and I looked in French as well). But if you find some and they do meet the standards of WP:SIGCOV in WP:SIRS I will withdraw the nomination. Fails WP:GNG and WP:ORG. The most significant source among the references is the two-minute BBC clip, where the club was mentioned in passing in an episode of a TV series about the east coast of Scotland. This university sports club lacks the sort of in-depth, national-level coverage required for WP:ORG. I had boldly redirected this to University of St Andrews Athletic Union, but this was revereted. Football biography fails WP:GNG, WP:NSPORT with no WP:SIGCOV in independent, secondary reliable sources. The only sources are WP:TRIVIALMENTIONS or database directories like this one. He fails WP:NOLYMPIC as a substitute for a team that did not apparently medal. Fails WP:NOTDICTIONARY, with the article besides the pure definition of gamesmanship (which, in itself, is partly WP:OR) being an example farm of different sports. Beyond that, it mostly cites the book written by the person who popularized (and possibly invented) the term, a primary source that doesn't contribute to notability. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 06:10, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

That's a good question. My comment above was based on a skim of the essay, and looking back now I do think I overstated things. You're right that the essay is primarily a literary discussion of Potter's book. However in its discussion of the book's legacy and impact it does verify that the concept of gamesmanship has had an enduring life of its own. So in combination with the other sources, I'm still satisfied that this counts as WP:SIGCOV. Botterweg14 (talk) 21:30, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

1993 TAC Cup season (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

I am bundle-nominating all league season pages of the Talent League competition for deletion. This bundle incorporates the 25 articles listed below.

On balance, these articles fail WP:GNG. This competition does not garner the level of coverage or references about its seasons and results to justify having season-by-season articles. I include the italicised caveat because, as this is the main underage recruitment competition in Victoria, the league's players and structure do receive a decent amount of non-routine individual coverage, as a WP:BEFORE search will attest; but this coverage is all primarily focussed on the league's function as an under-aged talent pathway. The seasons themselves (i.e. who won/lost, grand finalists, etc.) receive only passing WP:ROUTINE coverage. I note also that 19 of the 25 articles (those from 2000–2018) are currently based entirely on a single database reference, and those which aren't are almost entirely from non-independent sources. I see no valid alternative to deletion and that all content worth saving is already found on the main Talent League page.

I am also nominating the following related pages because they are all part of the same bundle:

  • Comment sorry, but that's way too much for me to work through to see if it needs deletion or not. WP:TRAINWRECK. Govvy (talk) 09:37, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
@Govvy: TRAINWRECK is a term for AfDs that cover many topics, but fail because the topics are too dissimilar – some are notable, others aren't. But surely any given TAC Cup season will be about as notable as the next? What makes you think TRAINWRECK applies here? – Teratix 02:25, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
    • Comment it is possible that I did not make clear enough that these pages are all different seasons of the same competition with different sponsored names. Aspirex (talk) 05:45, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
      • Comment @Aspirex and Teratix: Because on my first look, I assumed the AfD was for two different leagues. I didn't say don't delete, I just felt it was too much on one AfD. Maybe splitting between two AfDs might have been easier to manage for some people such as myself. Govvy (talk) 19:51, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment there is a strong case for deletion on the face of it – I would be surprised if enough sources exist for individual seasons of a state-level underage development competition. The point Aspirex makes about TAC Cup coverage mainly focusing on individual players or general aspects of competition structure, not specific results, rings true to me. – Teratix 02:25, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

You can't just write down a list of linked articles and consider them to be included in this nomination, our closing tool, XFDcloser will not recognize them as nominated articles. Please review the instructions at WP:AFD for nominating multiple articles and format this nomination correctly. No matter how this discussion is closed, this needs to happen. Thank you. Topic fails WP:LISTCRIT, as there is no reliable source on how an items appears on the list. Interpretation of what is or is not a sports film comes off as failing WP:OR. See discussions at Knowledge (XXG) talk:WikiProject_Film/Archive_79 in 2022 and Knowledge (XXG) talk:WikiProject Film#List of highest-grossing sports films here in 2024. Two years ago, the article was discussed for deletion, since then, per the second discussion topic this year it has been described as being in a worse state, specifically due to WP:OR, as there is no clear definition of what is or is not a sports film, the list is made up of material selected per choice by editors. Delete as the person who first brought this up. This isn't an issue of "theres coverage for it" its that it is a definitional impossibility that conflicts with sports films and list of sports films. And it isn't something that can be fixed either by going through it and saying what is or is not a sports film based on sourcing because the whole thing is a failed exercise that cannot be undone. It's not even a split list as its contents contradict the other lists its supposedly split from. As an encyclopedia this article is so all over the place that while everyone here is debating Babe i'm noticing that according to it the top sports films of all time are Inside Out 2 and the entire Fast and the Furious series alongside the Dragon Ball anime. We could go into a deep philosophical discussion about "what is a sport anyway" but instead this article exists as a fork from sports movies for no reason. –– Lid 03:53, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Bring up Babe is about sheepdog trail, sheepdog trails are considered a sport see about sheepdog trail being sports https://www.bbc.co.uk/berkshire/content/articles/2006/07/24/sheepdog_trials_feature.shtml Fanoflionking3 (talk) 20:00, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

While I'm not in denial of it being treated as a sport, what is and what isn't a sport film is less abundantly clear, so we can't just apply items like this. It's not clear what constitute the sports film genre per the links earlier that have different criteria. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:40, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

So we need a definition for a sports film then (i always considered that t being about a sport event or training for a event) Babe (using this as example) is about babe training for a sheep dog trail then complete in the trail. Fanoflionking3 (talk) 21:32, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

The issue with the genre is that is vague and unspecific. As shown by the two links above, there is no obvious connection between what is and what isn't. This is why an editor above may laugh at the idea of Babe being a sports film, while other may not. We can have our own personal definitions, but as that's not categorizable, we can't say what is higher grossing than the other. If a film were specifically about baseball we might be able to have some sort of list, but that would be relatively fringe. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:42, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Somethings are clearly sports film (rockey for example), whiles others could be question (babe for example) using babe a done a sample of what we could do.Fanoflionking3 (talk) 22:17, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

We could do something like this, we do not need to every film just any witch someone question. Fanoflionking3 (talk) 22:39, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Rank Film Year Worldwide gross Ref Sport(s)
1 Babe 1995 $254,134,910 Sheepdog trial
I think the talk page would be more appropriate for this, as the genre does not seem to be very specific, I don't think a list like this can be really be built on any foundation without some more strict details of what the genre may include. Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:46, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Notes

  1. in the film Babe, Babe the pig trains to take part in a sheepdog trail, sheepdog trails are considered a sport
  • Keep as a notable stand-alone list topic even though the list's current contents and approaches are garbage. The problem is defining a sports film as opposed to films that have sports in part, like considering Forrest Gump a sports film is WP:UNDUE. I do oppose the more complex and cross-categorization lists that are embedded in this list article per WP:NLIST since some just get plain indiscriminate. I would support a hard-ass culling of this list. Regardless, there are reliable sources talking about highest-grossing sports movies, so the scope is 100% tenable. We have to overcome the sloppiness of this draft. Erik (talk | contrib) 17:01, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I don't think there being reliable sources talking about highest-grossing sports movies necessarily means that the scope is 100% tenable. If those sources do not agree what counts as sports movies and what does not, there does not exist a consensus scope, but an equivocation. Do the sources actually agree on the scope in a way that makes for list criteria that are clear-cut and enforceable here? TompaDompa (talk) 17:42, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Of course the scope is 100% tenable. The problem is with how to present the details. We definitely have reliable sources writing about the highest-grossing sports films. Do we see these sources naming Forrest Gump and Babe as sports films? Or is it certain editors being ridiculously and erroneously pedantic here? Furthermore, reliable sources are not published with Knowledge (XXG) suitability in mind. So can we find a way to work with their coverage? Other approaches here could be to avoid an overall list and instead have various embedded lists by sports (e.g., highest-grossing baseball films). Or we could redirect to just sports film and write some prose saying what has been identified as highest-grossing films in the sports genre and not commit to a table. Erik (talk | contrib) 19:44, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Maybe we have different ideas about what it means for the scope to be tenable. If the best we can do is redirect to just sports film and write some prose saying what has been identified as highest-grossing films in the sports genre and not commit to a table, I would not consider the scope to be tenable. I would not even consider the scope to be tenable if we have to avoid an overall list. I'm sure we can find somewhere on Knowledge (XXG) to include the words "highest-grossing sports film(s)" with some relevant content, but that's a much lower bar. TompaDompa (talk) 21:00, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
I think TompaDompa's suggestion might be best. Being the third...fourth...fifth highgest grossing sports film is not something commonly applied to any film as an achievement and would be unmeasurable. Being the highest grossing sports film of all time or something is something you could potentially cover. The rest is just numbers games that we can't apply as with even sourced material above, there appears to be no consensus to what is and what isn't considered a sports film from person to person. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:09, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment I'll quote myself from roughly a year ago over at Knowledge (XXG):Articles for deletion/List of highest-grossing films based on television series: It is plain to see that this article, as so many box office lists before it, was inspired by the only such list on Knowledge (XXG) that is actually of high quality: List of highest-grossing films (a WP:Featured list). The problem with the proliferation of these lists is that they are created without understanding what it is that makes that list work, and they often just copy the structure without considering whether it is appropriate for the newly-created list—or indeed, considering whether the new list should exist at all. The result is that we have a plethora of poorly maintained, straight-up bad lists with myriad problems including—mainly—sourcing issues. This is, well, churnalism—or I suppose online one would call it content farming. It is the assembly of pure WP:RAWDATA by way of WP:Original research at the whims of Knowledge (XXG) editors who have mined box office databases for the data and come up with a new angle from which to slice it more-or-less arbitrarily. It is a scourge. As for what should be done about this list, specifically, if it is to be kept in any form whatsoever (be it as a stand-alone article or as part of some other article) it categorically needs to be demonstrated that it is actually possible to have inclusion criteria that are unambiguous, objective, and supported by reliable sources per WP:LISTCRITERIA, or in other words that there actually exists some kind of consensus among the sources about what belongs on the list and what does not. What we currently have fails the requirement from WP:LISTCRITERIA to Avoid original or arbitrary criteria that would synthesize a list that is not plainly verifiable in reliable sources. That goes for a lot of these lists. TompaDompa (talk) 17:39, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Delete. This is just a mirror of BoxOfficeMojo with some summaries ... that doesn't update as often. No effort to indicate when these statistics are captured or how out-of-date they might be. Or how they might compare across decades. And so the information is better kept at its source, and such an article offers no value. The inclusion criteria is between absurd and unenforced: there are silly entries (like *Babe*). But also entries for movies that haven't earned more than $10 million -- how could they possibly appear on any "highest-grossing" list? *Ben-Hur* for the "sport" of chariot racing? Come on. -- mikeblas (talk) 04:12, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Delete I don't see what value this article provides to the reader either. Reflecting the comment above, it is impossible to keep up to date. The problem is effective sourcing is another problem. I don't see its value as a standalone article. scope_creep 13:45, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Recreation of a deleted article following this AfD. Apparently because the wording and WP:REFBOMBS are different, it cannot be a G4 speedy... Non-notable, just as it was a month and a bit ago, with WP:REFBOMBS and no establishment of WP:GNG. Just because retired players are taking part, doesn't mean notability is inherited. Also, the so-called league is not run by a sports governing body or organization, but by a company named Absolute Legends Sports Pvt. Ltd. Non-notable amateur sports person. In terms of WP:SPORTBASIC, the only coverage I can find is the stuff that I've added to the article. Most of which is not independent (like "listings" on personnel sheets of orgs with which the subject has a connection like these: ; Which, even if they were independent, are far from in-depth coverage). Or ROTM "match report" type passing mentions (like these: ). In terms of WP:GNG, we barely have enough sources to establish even the sub-stub that we have. And certainly insufficient sources to expand any biographical information (DOB, place of birth, education, etc). A search in Irish news sources returns little to nothing. In the Irish Independent family of regional/national papers for example, all I can find are these two trivial passing mentions. Similar searches, in news sources like the Irish Examiner or Irish Times or RTE.ie, return nothing at all. Nothing. Not even trivial passing mentions. Notability is not established. What's offered in this article's references and external links section is a collection of publications from MLB (primary non-independent source) and baseball-reference.com (a stats database), neither of which count towards notability. Furthermore, most of them don't actually discuss this list topic but are instead being used in a WP:SYNTH manner. These two sources publish some variant of the list, but lack the requisite secondary SIGCOV needed to establish notability. An extensive WP:BEFORE search wasn't of much help. I discovered this source from Baseball Almanac; it has a table of random stats (not secondary or SIGCOV), and then a "Fast Facts" section at the bottom with a brief mention of three random unrelated factoids, but no meaningful discussion about this list topic specifically. bb_catchers.tripod.com contains two sentences discussing this list, but the site has no apparent editorial or authorial information, so it's likely WP:SPS. This source contains a footnote with a single sentence (which means it falls short of SIGCOV) mentioning only the first-place entry (which means it fails NLIST). At present, this article topic fails WP:NLIST, which requires in-depth significant coverage from independent reliable secondary sources that collate and discuss this list topic's entries together as a group or set to establish notability. In light of the aforementioned article review and search for sources, delete. Left guide (talk) 22:26, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Merge per Reywas92's proposal at related AfDs. I think top 10 by position is too narrow (I'd favor top 20 or 25 at each position), but the precise number can be sorted out in a talk page discussion (need not be resolved here). Cbl62 (talk) 22:34, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep. The WP lists of career leaders for batting, pitching and baserunning categories (such as hits, wins and stolen bases) are older, generally dating to between 2004 and 2007; the lists of fielding leaders are more recent, generally from around 2019, but are no less valid. Also, the batting, pitching and baserunning lists currently include less information, and are arguably more redundant of other sources; the individual subdivisions by league which have been added to the fielding lists are useful (and factual), as are the notes on the holders of various records over the years. Anyone looking for this info could, I suppose, wade through the data on other sites to find it themselves, but why make that necessary? There used to be annual publications which included the current league records, but I'm not sure any are still being printed, so that info isn't even easy to find anymore; I can't find career single-league records on Baseball-Reference, let alone single-league leaders, so I'm not sure where they'd be available. I don't think there's a WP:SYNTH issue, because no conclusions or inferences are being drawn -it's all simply factual material. MisfitToys (talk) 02:03, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
@MisfitToys: None of that proves compliance with WP:NLIST, nor does it rebut the thorough source analysis set forth in the nomination, and I also see multiple arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. Can you please justify your keep !vote by providing independent secondary reliable sources that directly discuss this list topic as a group to show notability? Tagged for notability over three months ago with no sourcing improvements since then. The article's references largely consist of primary/non-independent sources and stats databases, but more importantly, they also all fail verification or only cover off-topic matters; none actually discuss this record or list. At present, this article topic fails WP:NLIST, which requires in-depth significant coverage from independent reliable secondary sources that collate and discuss this list topic's entries together as a group or set to establish notability. A thorough WP:BEFORE search yielded dismal results; the best-quality source I could find was this Guinness World record page, but the WP:RSP entry for Guinness World Records says There is consensus that world records verified by Guinness World Records should not be used to establish notability. Furthermore, it briefly mentions the first-place entry but fails to discuss a group or set of list entries together as required by WP:NLIST. Page 329 of this book offers a sentence discussing the top four entries of this list but since it's published by AuthorHouse, it's an WP:SPS. With all that said, delete. Looked at the sources, and besides baseball-reference, there isn't much to justify the list as a group. I found a number of articles on Pearse, but most of them are TikTok, youtube, and instagram. Fight results and upcoming fight announcements are easy to find, but it's still difficult to find significant coverage from sources I know are both reliable and independent. He comes close to meeting WP:NKICK. The WMC ranks him as the #11 contender in his weight class (hence #12 overall) and he recently lost to the Rajadamnern champion in a non-title bout. Neither the sources I found nor the ones mentioned in the article convince me that WP:GNG is met. Historically, organizational ratings are sometimes suspect--it's hard to believe he's so highly ranked in the world when he's only ranked #8 at Rajadamnern. I'd say it appears to be WP:TOOSOON, but I'm not voting right now in the hope that better sources can be provided. Papaursa (talk) 01:53, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I believe the article fails notability. The article cites only a single non-independent source. A search has revealed only non-significant coverage in reference to games or the grounds and such (with the possible exception of this book page I found).
It was previously proposed for deletion in 2011, with the result being a weak keep with the expectation that user:Brocach would try to add sources. It had been more than a decade and the article has not been improved. Lenny Marks (talk) 15:45, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Weak keep. Personally I can't support deletion. As noted above, I found and have added a number of sources which allow for the article to be expanded beyond a stub. And, in at least some cases, appear to support a claim to notability. While some of the more in-depth sources available appear to be connected to the subject (including at least one if not both of the "anniversary/history" pieces by Weir (2009) and Duffy (1984)), others seem more independent of the subject. Including the (granted somewhat "local interest") news stories and history coverage in Armagh Today, the Ulster Gazette, and the journal of the Armagh History Group. While I'm not exactly bowled over by these sources (hence the "weak keep" recommendation), outright deletion wouldn't seem appropriate at all. As, even if there was consensus that the org wasn't sufficiently notable for a standalone title, the title could be redirected (and the related content easily merged) to The Mall, Armagh or Armagh#Sport or NCU Senior League or any number of other titles. Personally I think, on balance, that this subject can just about sustain its own title however. Certainly can't support outright deletion. Guliolopez (talk) 00:45, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

The article(s) ''should not be deleted/redirected''. They contain quite a bit of information with sources from TNCA, ESPN cricinfo, Cricbuzz etc.
If required, someone can take initiative in adding more sources for respective pages.
Thanks, Vikram Maingi (talk) 12:48, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
TNCA is the official site, doesn't count on notability. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 13:16, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
I am also against the deletion of these. While some of these articles might require expansion, copy editing and additional work on citations, generalised deletion is not the way to go. My reasons for the same:
  • There are standalone articles as there are similar articles for similar sporting events and it does not fail notability.
  • There is significant information in these articles. For e.g. the 2024 season page is ~15k bytes in length. I do not think these can be condensed into the original article. With eight seasons and further ones, it will make continue to make the original page unnecessarily longer and difficult to read.
  • While I do agree that some of these would require additional citations and secondary sources, generalisation as failing WP:RS is an overreach. Say the e.g. the article for the 2024 season has more than ten citations, of which a larger proportion seem to be independent secondary sources and quite a number of them are reliable.
Update: I have started working on the page for the 2024 season.

Coverage within the refbombs is routine. AA (talk) 14:52, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Also, the so-called league is not run by a sports governing body or organization, but by a company named Absolute Legends Sports Pvt. Ltd. The article of this young Slovak men's footballer has been tagged for notability for two years. He played a total of 378 minutes in the Slovakia's highest league to date. In terms of reliable secondary sources, I only found passing mentions from squad list, such as Ref 1 and Ref 2). Consider that almost no Slovak clubs are well-known outside their countries, I don't see this article as a potential draft. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 12:37, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

The Zhejiang Normal University East Stadium has also been renovated. Its lawn looks very flat to the naked eye, but in fact it is high in the middle and low on both sides, with a slope of 0.3% to prevent water accumulation in the lawn during the rainy season. For this reason, the staff also used the satellite positioning system to ensure accuracy when laying the grass. According to the staff, the lamps used in the gymnasium and stadium of Jinhua Sports Center are the same as the "Big Lotus" main stadium of the Hangzhou Asian Games. These LED lamps have many advantages such as energy saving and environmental protection, low electricity bills, durability and long life, soft light without flicker, rich colors and many shapes."

New sources are either from the league in which he plays or are basic WP:ROUTINE coverage about a specific game with no meaningful coverage of the player himself. This is not WP:SIGCOV. Anwegmann (talk) 15:50, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

The new sources (sport.ua/2024-09-14, ua-football.com/2024-09-15) have nothing to do with the league (UPL) in which Pshenychnyuk plays, and imho they are not something like WP:ROUTINE coverage. Web-wiki-warrior (talk) 19:04, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

General question: Is an interview (for example at least for 30 Minutes) with the football player that was published as a YouTube video considered as sufficient and significant coverage? Web-wiki-warrior (talk) 08:42, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

@Clara A. Djalim: Sorry, but imho you are wrong again if we take a closer look at your sentence "almost nobody outside Ukraine knows the clubs he played for". Pshenychnyuk plays for Ukrainian Premier League side FC Chornomorets Odesa. If you don't know the team doesn't mean nobody outside Ukraine knows the club he plays for. If we take a look at Knowledge (XXG) article FC Chornomorets Odesa (it's the club Pshenychnyuk plays for), we can see that article is provided by 37 languages. Furthermore, it is not a criterion of WP:SIGCOV whether someone outside Ukraine knows/doesn't know football teams from the Ukrainian Premier League. I agree, it’s part of an entire series of articles for the different Japanese football leagues which not only tracks the competitions year by year, but the teams too. Cutting out a single article in the series seems like it would break up the series for no good reason, when the information itself is super clearly presented, and threaded, in a way I haven’t been able to find anywhere else online.
In my opinion deleting it would take away something useful. For that reason, I have the page a solid edit tonight. I’ve still got to go ahead and add match report links to each individual game, but I think I at least covered the basics.
This is such a useful resource that I’m going to make it a mission to pick through all the rest of the articles in the series one by one, and expand / source each of those as well. So it would be really nice if you didn’t delete this one article as I’m doing that…

Obviously I’m not voting again, having already voted, but I’ll further explain my reasoning having spent the duration of this deletion discussion attempting to edit the article into compliance.
As the article stood when nominated (by a user who has since quit, after having several of his articles similar to this one likewise nominated for deletion / draftified, but then kept - having made “why are mine deleted when there are articles like these” type arguments), it completely lacked sources and content. The nomination was a fair cop. Since the nomination though, I’ve found and cited several sources, reworked the article in ways which I believe both clearly lay out the season, and that prove there was significant coverage in Reliable, Independent, Secondary sources, with the likelihood of there being more sources out there which I have not yet found (searching in Japanese, my second language, slows things down, but this was the first full season in a newly formed professional competition in a major developed country - the chance of there not being more sources that I just haven’t found yet is basically zero.
I would like to just remind people voting that the criteria is that sources proving notability are likely to exist, not that they are cited in the article as currently written. The appropriate policy is
- “ Notability requires only that suitable independent, reliable sources exist in the real world; it does not require their immediate presence or citation in an article. Editors evaluating notability should consider not only any sources currently named in an article, but also the possibility or existence of notability-indicating sources that are not currently named in the article. Thus, before proposing or nominating an article for deletion, or offering an opinion based on notability in a deletion discussion, editors are strongly encouraged to attempt to find sources for the subject in question and consider the possibility that sources may still exist even if their search failed to uncover any.”
I am not accusing anyone of arguing for deletion in bad faith, I think we are all trying to do what is right here, but I would like to ask anyone leaning towards deletion to ask themselves whether it is in part because they are not interested in the topic of the article, and don’t really consider foreign language sources to count when judging reliability on an English Knowledge (XXG) page.
I’m going to keep poking away at the article, searching for more sources, and editing if I have time, and honestly I think that efforts to gradually improve the article is a better way to approach this rather than deletion, but I’ll leave that up to you guys now that I’ve said my piece. Does not pass WP:GNG. He does not have a single start in a professional football competition and the sources used do not document his notability. Maybe speedy deletion per A7 is possible. FromCzech (talk) 05:43, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Keep - I think for this player does pass WP:GNG with all the articles in Vietnam's big football journals about him. He recently signed a pro contract with a club in Vietnam's highest division, and is registred in the squad for the league. His pro debut will only be a matter of time. Lâm (talk) 10:24, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
As I wrote, the sources used do not document his notability. Wiki is not a player database and a few possible starts for a professional club won't change anything about that. This player has not accomplished anything yet, and we are not predicting from a crystal ball whether he will ever accomplish anything. The page can be created in a few years, when he has dozens of starts, and it will be written about something other than his first pro contract. FromCzech (talk) 11:06, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Comment – He's actually quite well-known in Vietnam, due to his call up to the Vietnam national under-23 football team. There are a lot of articles about him in Vietnamese, which I believe do pass the WP:GNG. But as you mentioned, he did not have a single game in a professional football competition, and also no appearance for Vietnam youth national teams. I see this article as WP:TOOSOON . I think a draft is the best solution. Lâm (talk) 06:37, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Like a single call-up to the U23 preliminary squad will make you famous in Vietnam? LOL. A draft is a reasonable option. FromCzech (talk) 06:51, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Yes, his case is particular. He was one the first Vietnamese diaspora player playing abroad to get a call up to the national youth team. That explains why he got a lot of attention of the media Lâm (talk) 10:35, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Weak keep as the references cover the player significantly and surely passes WP:GNG. However, what make me consider is that the player doesn't have much of a career, but the fact that he got call up to the Vietnam national football team makes it valid to keep this article. What do you guys think? Lâm (talk) 09:00, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
Just repeating myself, but passing GNG criteria is not confirmation of notability, and we are talking about youth team, not a senior team, and about a preliminary squad as he withdrew the call up, not a final nomination. And this is a one year old event; since then, he has not appeared anywhere. Given that no one was in favor of keep in the discussion before the relisting, a consensus is being sought whether to draft or delete. FromCzech (talk) 09:18, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Delete: I wouldn't call this WP:TOOSOON as no WP:SIGCOV existed. In a general view, the article doesn't meet WP:SPORTSBIO and seeing that no coverage has ever existed, turning into a draft wouldn't help either.

  • User:Aspirex, this AFD is not formatted correctly for a bundled nomination. Thank you. Relisting comment: Relisting. We still need to hear arguments from more editors on what should happen with all of these articles or this AFD may close as no consensus. What outcome would you like to see? Why? Could anyone supply a source assessment of at least one of these articles?

I am not persuaded that this qualifies under WP:NLIST. There are also only two years here so far. In a few years this will be unmanageable, and doubtless better handled by a category, and conceivably a navigation template for each year, with a link to the next and previous years. Here for discussion. 🇺🇦 Fiddle Faddle 🇺🇦 11:37, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I cannot find any evidence of notability for this Slovak ice hockey player. A source that is the closest to significant coverage is Teraz. Corresponding article on Slovak Knowledge (XXG) is likewise an unsourced stub, which may help copy over English article otherwise. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 11:26, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

WP:TOOSOON for an article at the moment. This article should wait until there is some actual WP:SIGCOV of the subject, who is still a child athlete. JTtheOG (talk) 19:28, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

I would also support draftification per the nomination until Tran gets more coverage. SirMemeGod21:54, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Delete: No coverage found, and a long way from being a notable athlete for our purposes here. I don't even thing drafting would help, still a young competitor, not competing on the national level Oaktree b (talk) 23:03, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Delete No significant independent coverage found. WP:MANOTE talks about notable artists need to be at least adult black belts, winning junior events has never been considered WP notable in MA. No reason to draftify this article. When he meets either WP:GNG or an SNG, the article will need to be rewritten then. Fails to fulfill WP:MMANOT with no wins over significant opponents, bouts only in the second tier organizations and FightMatrix ranking of #65 at highest. Also, does not seem to fulfill WP:GNG or WP:BIO. Ticelon (talk) 10:05, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Delete doesn't meet WP:NMMA (or WP:GNG), as he ranked #65 in the world according to fight matrix. Lekkha Moun (talk) 07:50, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Delete Clearly fails to meet WP:NMMA. My search for sources found databases, fight announcements, and results--all of which are typical for any pro fighter. In addition, most of the references are from sources that are either deemed not reliable (like sportskeeda) or not independent (particularly One FC's articles). His ranking is probably overstated at fightmatrix since it lists 4 Russian fighters named Murad Ramazanov, all with non-overlapping fight records (which probably explains the one fight in 5 years gap in the main fighter's records). Counting the fights in the gap he no longer has his long unbeaten string or 12-2 professional record, because fightmatrix shows a 2-3 records for those "other" fighters with the same name. Papaursa (talk) 15:54, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
None of the Murad Ramazanov's are the same person, that region of Russia has many guys who share the same last names or first names, it's like Viet people and the last name Nguyen. There are pictures of the other Ramazanov's in tapology and sherdog, showing it's not the same Murad in PFL, especially since he has a distinctive look.
Murad 1 and 2 are the same person, but not the PFL Murad, and Murad 3 is a completely different guy at a different weight class HeinzMaster (talk) 16:36, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you HeinzMaster for the additional information. I guess the bottom line is still that none of the Murad Ramazanov fighters are WP notable. Papaursa (talk) 20:32, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Delete I don't see the coverage to show he meets WP:GNG or WP:BIO. He won less than half of his MMA fights. According to fightmatrix.com, he won none of his 8 against top 25 ranked fighters. His fightmatrix rankings are strange. The article mentions his drawn catchweight fight against Kojima--Kojima was the #1 flyweight and Taitano was the #71 bantanweight. A two round fight sounds more like an exhibition. Taitano's next fight was against an unranked fighter and fightmatrix had Taitano as the #8 flyweight, apparently ignoring the fact his ranking was from a fight where he was a bantamweight against a smaller opponent. There's no WP:SIGCOV of this judoka, just stats pages and WP:ROUTINE coverage (plus an assortment of unreliable sources). Nothing found in WP:BEFORE search so the subject fails WP:GNG and WP:NSPORT. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:00, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

There are some notability criteria at WP:MANOTE. Papaursa (talk) 02:26, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Delete I can find no evidence of a silver medal at the World Military Championships and even if I did it wouldn't be sufficient to show WP notability as it is a small event and other medalists have had their articles deleted. There are also many similar sounding events, but the previous statement is true for all of them. The International Military Sports Council doesn't even show a judo championship in 2010 . None of the sources given show WP:GNG is met nor my search find support for the claim of notability. The International Judo Federation records shows he never competed at a world championship. He did compete at one European championship in 2013 where he lost in the round of 16. World Cup events are not world championships. Notability is not inherited from his father's judo success, although it is a possible redirect target (he's already mentioned there). Papaursa (talk) 02:26, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I can't find significant coverage in reliable sources for this muay thai fighter, but I'm not confident I know where to look, either. Here's two links that might help someone else: ; . asilvering (talk) 23:42, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Delete Probably a case of WP:TOOSOON, doesnt meet criteria for WP:NKICK. Nswix (talk) 20:51, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment This was interesting search and showed how things have changed. Time was it was very difficult (well nigh impossible) to find sources on Muay Thai fighters.

Summary of New Zealand national rugby league team test matches (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Article relys on a single source, article is strangely formatted and isn't consistent with other similar articles, case for WP:TNT so a proper List of New Zealand national rugby league team results can be created.

Previously PRODed, and was reverted on the basis that the article could be improved and that I as PRODed nominator had changed the name of the page. Yes, article could be improved, but there is virtually nothing novel or useful on this page so don't see why edit history needs retaining for a new article "List of New Zealand national rugby league team results". Articles name was changed to better reflect the article content. But in reality, it is so far away from the standard way to display a list of national team results that it's best to be deleted. To fix this page would involve removing 99% of the content anyway. Mn1548 (talk) 08:04, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
