Speedy deletion nomination of Andreas Malm
Hello Ezlev,
Welcome to Knowledge (XXG)! I edit here too, under the username Hatchens, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Andreas Malm, for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at Draft:Andreas_Malm. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.
For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Hatchens}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!

Vandalism
Can you please intervene on Dustin Higgs, the user is deleting sources and parts about the execution and is clearly a sockpuppet. Inexpiable (talk) 06:51, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- Inexpiable, I agree that there's a possibility that Diamond is a sockpuppet, or at least a single-purpose account, and Diamond's latest edits and edit summaries are certainly disruptive. Still, I think it might be best to leave things be for the moment, as the article still provides an accurate view of things and this issue might just fade away if it's given time to do so. I think the best long-term course of action if specific content continues to prove controversial would be an RfC. In the short-term, relax for a while - you definitely deserve it after all your work on that article. warmly, ezlev. talk 07:49, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Thomas A Russo
Iâm not sure this should have been accepted considering the sockpuppetry and probable CoI/paid issues involved, see Knowledge (XXG):Sockpuppet investigations/Stevemalya. SK2242 (talk) 01:40, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- SK2242, I definitely understand the concern, but the article itself (while not devoid of issues) made it all the way through the reviewing workflow when I took a look at it. Since Stevemalya had already been duly blocked and the article seemed suitable, I wasn't sure what grounds there would be to decline the submission. That said, I'm new to AfC and would be grateful for any additional tips you can offer for situations like that one. warmly, ezlev. talk 01:50, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Roland Tormey
Hi, thank you for reviewing Roland Tormey as part of AFC and accepting it. I wanted to flag that something seemed to have gone slightly wrong when you did the cleanup at https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Roland_Tormey&diff=1001211236&oldid=1001211212&diffmode=source in terms of duplicating categories and the DEFAULTSORT tag, but I've since fixed that as part of my NPP checks. Keep up the good work overall though! -Kj cheetham (talk) 09:35, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Kj cheetham, thank you for catching that! Not sure what went wrong there, but in the future I'll try to double-check things like that manually after I use the script. warmly, ezlev. talk 18:04, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Reply tool
The Reply tool is available at most other Wikipedias.
- The Reply tool has been deployed as an opt-out preference to all editors at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
- It is also available as a Beta Feature at almost all Wikipedias except for the English, Russian, and German-language Wikipedias. If it is not available at your wiki, you can request it by following these simple instructions.
Research notes:
- As of January 2021, more than 3,500 editors have used the Reply tool to post about 70,000 comments.
- There is preliminary data from the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Knowledge (XXG) on the Reply tool. Junior Contributors who use the Reply tool are more likely to publish the comments that they start writing than those who use full-page wikitext editing.
- The Editing and Parsing teams have significantly reduced the number of edits that affect other parts of the page. About 0.3% of edits did this during the last month. Some of the remaining changes are automatic corrections for Special:LintErrors.
- A large A/B test will start soon. This is part of the process to offer the Reply tool to everyone. During this test, half of all editors at 24 Wikipedias (not including the English Knowledge (XXG)) will have the Reply tool automatically enabled, and half will not. Editors at those Wikipeedias can still turn it on or off for their own accounts in Special:Preferences.
New discussion tool
The new tool for starting new discussions (new sections) will join the Discussion tools in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures at the end of January. You can try the tool for yourself. You can leave feedback in this thread or on the talk page.
Next: Notifications
During Talk pages consultation 2019, editors said that it should be easier to know about new activity in conversations they are interested in. The Notifications project is just beginning. What would help you become aware of new comments? What's working with the current system? Which pages at your wiki should the team look at? Please post your advice at mw:Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications.

Speedy deletion nomination of Global Online Academy
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Global Online Academy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Knowledge (XXG). This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Knowledge (XXG):FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Knowledge (XXG)'s policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Onel5969 12:49, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Geneva Consensus Declaration
Hello Ezlev. I had recently modified the Geneva Consensus Declaration page. And you undid my edits. The reason I made those changes was to remove all references to opinion or irrelevant facts that only serve to influence the reader's opinion. I believe Knowledge (XXG) should be factual only.
For example "most of the signatories are illiberal, authoritarian, or autocratic governments which predominantly subscribe to hard-line religious viewpoints". This does not describe the Geneva Consensus Declaration but only serves to paint the signatories in a bad light. This is an attempt to influence the reader.
It goes on to say "some of their leaders have been accused of human rights violations". Again, this does not help the reader understand what the Geneva Consensus Declaration is all about and besides that, an accusation is not proof. I could literally accuse any country in the world of anything I want and make the same statement that "this country has been accused of X". It means nothing and again is only included in an attempt to influence the reader's opinion of the Declaration. That kind of propaganda has no place on Knowledge (XXG).
"most of the countries did not appear to take them seriously" is not only propaganda, but entirely without evidence. If you have to use the word "appear" then you know you're only stating an opinion.
"Human rights activists described the declaration as an international attack on women, gender, and sexuality". How a specific group describes the Declaration is again irrelevant to the declaration itself, as any declaration is going to have its detractors and enemies. If you want to point out groups that criticise the declaration then you should at least also point out groups that support the declaration and give both groups equal space, otherwise again it is nothing more than an attempt to influence the reader.
"Some of the signatories may have been motivated by a desire to undermine established international institutions" is a blatant opinion statement without any evidence to back up or prove their motivation. Why is speculation about the reasons for signing a declaration on this page? Is Knowledge (XXG) a place for speculation and opinion?
Please remove all references to opinion, speculation and propaganda. This is not the place to promote your own ideological views, or to attack the ideological views of others. This is a place to present facts for the benefit of all. Knowledge (XXG) started out as a fact based information source, as an encyclopedia should be, but has since been overrun with opinions, speculation and biased attacks and that's a shame because that's not what this place was meant to be. Please, if you're an editor of Knowledge (XXG), then you must consider yourself a non-biased journalist presenting only the facts with the only goal of informing the readers, not influencing them. Consider yourself an impartial observer looking from some distance away, not personally involved, and not personally caring how the reader responds to the information you provide as you're only providing the facts, like how a robot would. That is how the greatest historians recorded history, and that's how we should be recording today.
This may seem like a strange comparison but I'm reminded of how we are trained to observe children in child care. When we do observations of children at play we write down only what we see, not what we assume or think. For example, if Johnny picks up a block, frowns and throws it I would say "Johnny picked up the block, frowned and threw the block" not "Johnny picked up the block and appeared to be angry so he threw it". The first statement is simple facts, the second statement inserts my interpretation of the facts. Knowledge (XXG) should be only a statement of facts, not our interpretation of those facts.
All we have to do is explain what the Consensus states, who signed it and when and then the readers can make up their own minds on whether or not they agree with it. We don't need to encourage them one way or the other on how to think. That's insulting to the reader and a disservice to the integrity of this site.
I hope I've made clear to you why I removed those parts of the page, and I hope you agree that Knowledge (XXG) articles should be factual only for the subject in question and not be written in such a way as to influence the reader's opinions by inserting our own biases, interpretations of facts, opinions or propaganda, or even to reference the one-sided opinions or propaganda of others as they relate to the subject.
JackGunn (talk) 20:05, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Jack
- JackGunn, I made that revert solely because your edit removed sourced content without a full explanation for doing so. That raised red flags for me because disruptive editors often use edit summaries like "removed opinion" for edits that are actually removing well-sourced content. Upon seeing that your edit had removed content which was supported with citations to reliable sources, I made the revert; I had no other motivation for doing so. I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience my edit caused. I fully agree that non-neutrality is an issue on Knowledge (XXG), and I'm happy that you've chosen to create an account and work to make this platform better.
A quick note: In your message above, you said thatif you're an editor of Knowledge (XXG), then you must consider yourself a non-biased journalist presenting only the facts with the only goal of informing the readers, not influencing them.
I want to make sure you're aware of the wording and meaning of Knowledge (XXG)'s neutral point of view policy, WP:NPOV. This policy makes clear that articles are expected not just to present the facts but also, as you put it,the one-sided opinions or propaganda of others as they relate to the subject
if those opinions are relevant and meet certain other policies. Rather than arguing for the removal of any non-objective content, I encourage you to focus on making sure that non-objective content meets these other Knowledge (XXG) policies such as due weight, no original research, and attribution.
As for the Geneva Consensus Declaration article, I think I'm going to place an issue tag and maybe do some work on it when I get a chance. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a message! I've also dropped a welcome template on your talk page with some more links you might find useful. warmly, ezlev. talk 22:14, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Tagging pages for deletion
Hello, Ezlev,
Just a reminder that whenever you tag a page for deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD, etc.), you need to post a notice on the page creator's talk page. If you use Twinkle, the program does this automatically for you once you set up your Preferences so I encourage you to try it out. Thanks. Liz 07:28, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Liz, thanks for the reminder! I do use Twinkle, and I know it placed an automatic notification for a CSD tag back on Feb 1, but evidently not for the one from today. Time to poke around the preferences for a little while, I guess. Again, thank you for bringing it to my attention! warmly, ezlev. talk 07:46, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Liz, update to my reply above: based on the Twinkle preferences, it looks like notifications for a WP:G6 tag are only automatic when the Db-copypaste template is used as opposed to the generic Db-g6 template with rationale. It's probably because there's no templated notice like Db-copypaste-notice for the generic Db-g6, right? That'll be a tricky quirk to remember, but I'll try my best in the future! warmly, ezlev. talk 07:57, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Kameelion
Hey! I got your review message, thank you for that. Iâm still getting used to working this site. Please can you give me advice on how to improve as I already think Iâve done a decent job with detail, facts and not being to vague. Please can you help in assisting me. Ashcroft18 (talk) 19:12, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Ashcroft18, thanks for asking! The main reason I declined the submission of Draft:Kameelion was its use of "peacock terms," which promote the subject without adding encyclopedic content to the article. One example from near the beginning of the article is
burst on to the music scene
, which doesn't fit the encyclopedic tone we use on Knowledge (XXG). However, another area that needs work is the references. Every claim needs to be supported by a reliable source, which doesn't include social media platforms like Twitter/Facebook/Youtube or iMDB.
I do think Kameelion is notable and should have an article on Knowledge (XXG), and this draft is almost there. Adding better sources and/or removing unsourced content will make a huge improvement, and giving the article a neutral point of view will be important as well. Let me know if you have any other questions! warmly, ezlev. talk 21:09, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
Hey! Thanks for getting back to me and being so helpful! I will try and edit some of the text then and change some wording. I will try and sort out the reference issues. Sometimes, the only links to show it was truthful, was via YouTube or Twitter etc. I am going to work on it today. I keep reading it over and over, and I can't seem to find anymore "peacock terms", if you can try and point others out so I could rectify; that would really help me. I've tried to be as neutral and formal as possible, but I am just starting out.
Thanks. Ashcroft18 (talk) 09:24, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

The article Tillie Kottmann has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Case of WP:BLPCRIME, since not being a Public Figure the accusation needs to be removed. After the removal she lacks WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Knowledge (XXG) are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. CommanderWaterford (talk) 19:16, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Info about Jack Turban at article Irreversible Damage
Hi I just want to find out reason for deleting Jack Turban current education status. https://profiles.stanford.edu/jack-turban https://www.jackturban.com/
Please help me to understand. Thank you. â Preceding unsigned comment added by PseudonymhelpU2 (talk ⢠contribs) 17:29, 23 March 2021 (UTC) (Moved to new talk page section and titled by ezlev. 19:56, 23 March 2021 (UTC))
- PseudonymhelpU2, thanks for asking! I reverted that edit because it was synthesis, which is what it's called when someone
combines material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources.
In this case, the edit took something which was not mentioned in the sources related to Irreversible Damage but was mentioned in sources related to Jack Turban, and combined it with the source that was in the article (Jack Turban's criticism of Irreversible Damage) to imply certain things about how credible that criticism is. That isn't really done on Knowledge (XXG), because in addition to violating the part about synthesis in the policy no original research, it also usually doesn't adhere to a neutral point of view. I hope this is helpful - I'll ping SreySros here, who reverted your edit before I did, so she can tell us if I missed anything (if she wants). And if you've got any more questions, feel free to ask them here! ezlev. 20:08, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- PseudonymhelpU2, Ezlev pretty much summed up why I reverted your original edit. I apologize if my edit summary ("SYNTH, not a RS") was too short to be helpful. Generally if you see people using all-caps words on Knowledge (XXG) you can pop a "WP:" in front of them and find the relevant page (WP:RS, WP:SYNTH, etc.). Aside from the synthesis, original research, and neutral point of view issues with your edits, "Uncommon Ground Media" is not a reliable source. â Preceding unsigned comment added by SreySros (talk ⢠contribs)
In addition, Target has NOT resale the book. I just confirmed. PseudonymhelpU2 (talk) 22:06, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- @PseudonymhelpU2: do you have a source for that info? ezlev. 22:16, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, I googled and searched in Target website for many days and can't find it PseudonymhelpU2 (talk) 00:36, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
I tried to put on CBN news link but I can't PseudonymhelpU2 (talk) 00:39, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
@ezlev Thank you for deleted the update. I want to ask if CBN news can be a source and the fact when searching for the book on Target web site, one can not find the book. Thank you for your help. PseudonymhelpU2 (talk) 17:11, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- PseudonymhelpU2, I don't think CBN News is a very reliable source, and saying that the book isn't available because it doesn't show up in search on the Target website would be original research again. ezlev. 17:39, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
AfC Decline: Banking in Guyana
Hi, I see you declined the article "Banking in Guyana" for sounding like an essay. I'm a bit concerned because, honestly, I am a very poor essayist. I would still like to improve this article because developing countries have interesting economies, even if they're eclipsed by their colonial predecessors. If you have the time to explain what would be needed to make a suitable article on this topic, please let me know. Cheers, Estheim (talk) 22:00, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
- Estheim, I completely agree with you that this draft should be an article on Knowledge (XXG). Underrepresentation of developing countries is a big problem here. I also want to apologize for not leaving a more detailed reason for the decline - you're the second person to give me that feedback today, and I'll definitely keep it in mind in the future. The main reason I didn't accept this AfC submission was the lede, which is generally supposed to summarize the article, but in this case reads more like the introduction of an essay and introduces unsourced ideas that aren't supported in the body of the article. I think improving the lede (WP:LEDE might help) would make a big difference. ezlev. 22:42, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello Ezlev I see that you are editing and making a lot of important pages. I am just suggesting a good citation format for you to use. Matthew Blaise moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Matthew Blaise, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Knowledge (XXG)). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Knowledge (XXG)'s general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. - (Talk page enjoyer) @Celestina007: I'm kinda curious how you think the current sources - including this this and this are insufficient? Elli (talk | contribs) 22:09, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Elli, Although a case of âmeeting basicâ can be made, I do not see WP:INDEPTH or WP:SIGCOV significantly met. I was hoping they submit it via AFC where a fresh pair of eyes can access the article. Celestina007 (talk) 22:17, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Celestina007: ah, fair. I'm just a bit hesitant to send stuff to AfC given the long backlog there. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:20, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Elli, yes indeed, thatâs a valid reason, the article did not meet any criteria for deletion and also wasnât mainspace ready(my opinion which could be flawed) so I chose an ATD, but the backlog point you raise is indeed valid. Celestina007 (talk) 22:25, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- Celestina007, Elli, thanks to both of you. I figured this would be a borderline case when I published it, and it looks like I was right. Oh well. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 22:29, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- If you donât agree with the draftify move i made, you know you could move it back to mainspace right? Although publishing via afc is usually good practice, you could always disagree with the move, of which I would leave to another reviewer to handle. Celestina007 (talk) 22:34, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- I really appreciate you saying that, Celestina. I knew I could do that in theory, but not in practice. I think I will in this case, especially since I've added a bit to the article to make INDEPTH and SIGCOV more clear. No hard feelings on my end, though â I should've made those additions to begin with, and I think draftification was a reasonable move on your part based on the sparseness of the prose in the article. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 23:16, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

I think the problem is reconciling ânotabilityâ which is flexible and could be changed at any time with âencyclopedic valueâ which is, or, what we should be about, we at new page reviewing sometimes(like I did today) review articles like robots other than humans, all encyclopedic articles (of value) are not necessary ânotableâ and all ânotableâ articles are not necessarily of encyclopedic value. This article is definitely of encyclopedic value and a big thank you to Elli for reminding of this great philosophy, if an article is of encyclopedic value(like this), not promotional, nor possesses any harm to the integrity of the collaborative project, I see no reason to act like a machine. Keep up the good work. Your topic areas are of immense value. Celestina007 (talk) 23:54, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

Editing news 2021 #2
Read this in another language ⢠Subscription list for this newsletter
Earlier this year, the Editing team ran a large study of the Reply Tool. The main goal was to find out whether the Reply Tool helped newer editors communicate on wiki. The second goal was to see whether the comments that newer editors made using the tool needed to be reverted more frequently than comments newer editors made with the existing wikitext page editor.
The key results were:
- Newer editors who had automatic ("default on") access to the Reply tool were more likely to post a comment on a talk page.
- The comments that newer editors made with the Reply Tool were also less likely to be reverted than the comments that newer editors made with page editing.
These results give the Editing team confidence that the tool is helpful.
Looking ahead
The team is planning to make the Reply tool available to everyone as an opt-out preference in the coming months. This has already happened at the Arabic, Czech, and Hungarian Wikipedias.
The next step is to resolve a technical challenge. Then, they will deploy the Reply tool first to the Wikipedias that participated in the study. After that, they will deploy it, in stages, to the other Wikipedias and all WMF-hosted wikis.
You can turn on "Discussion Tools" in Beta Features now. After you get the Reply tool, you can change your preferences at any time in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

Hello Ezlev
I'm struggling to understand what appears to be a very determined effort from wikipedia and its admins and editors to prevent any resolution to having a wikipedia page for Fergus O'Farrell and or his band interference, I am all but at the point of giving up completely. I am four months unsuccesfully trying to prove I wrote the original interference page which was copied and pasted multiple times into several other webpages reflecting rock music and artists, I've sent the original file with metadata date stamp from the original computer I used on 19th february 2003, a computer which had to be taken out of storage for this purpose, I've followed advice, edited, answered emails, all to no avail. I am the band archivist and it seems that because I have a personal connection to the band in this regard, you folk at wikipedia have determined I cannot be the author of an article connected to either the band or fergus O'Farrell himself. You say I do not cite sources etc, I fail to see how national newspapers, Television companies and film distribution companies are not considered 'reliabe sources'. I'm the administrator of the Facebook accounts relating to the band, along with Spotify, YouTube, The Band WEbpage and Instagram and Twitter, who better to admin their wikipedia page ? I cannot use photographs I took myself, or have full and absolute permission to use everywhere else, I've been accused of plagerising my own words, I'm repeatedly told I can't do this and I can't do that without any alternative been offered, the communication from wikipedias side is both incredibly slow in response and almost impossible to understand. I'm prepared to take any advice offered but find it offensive when entire editorial is just removed and I'm told you cant have that on your page because its been previously published...yes by me. Perhaps you could actually suggest sources or suggest rewrites of the editorial instead of just saying its wrong. I cannot begin to tell you how many newspaper articles I've had to correct regarding O'Farrell and his band, the articles which don't need correcting are written by journalists who have bothered coming to me to confirm their information before publishing. I'm doing this for 30 years, I do have a considerable knowledge of the subject.
I understand that Wiki is an encyclopedia not a forum for selling a product and welcome any advice on re-wording or de-personalising my wording, looking forward to your response kind regards Marc McDonald Marcmackdee (talk) 02:38, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Marcmackdee! I want you to know that Iâve seen this and Iâll respond within the next couple of hours. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 02:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Marcmackdee, I want to say first that I understand your frustration. ItĘťs clear that there are multiple things going on, many of them complicated, and having experienced some of them during my time as a Knowledge (XXG) reader and later an editor, I think I can see where youĘťre coming from. IĘťve tried to restate and address each point of your message below:
- You've had difficulty because you've been editing articles you have a personal connection to. Knowledge (XXG) editors do tend to be specific of people who have a conflict of interest, and rightly so. We've even got a whole guideline about it. You're really not supposed to directly edit articles you have a conflict of interest about, and so you will absolutely be subject to extra scrutiny whenever you try to do so. The conflict of interest guideline may help you figure out better ways to improve these articles.
- YouĘťve been struggling to prove that you wrote the original version of a webpage about Interference (band), which was subsequently plagiarized, so that you can donate the text under an appropriate license for Knowledge (XXG). This is similar to an issue I've run into while trying to help people upload images, and it's hard to deal with. I've had a look at this discussion from a while ago, and it sounds like you were going to contact OTRS, which is a good step. Based on your message above, it sounds like you haven't had luck with that. If you can tell me more about what happened with OTRS, I can try to offer advice or connect you with someone who can help, but right off the bat my advice would be for you to rewrite the content using new wording, and cite the original as a source, which could avoid the copyright issue entirely.
- Similar to the previous point, you've had difficulty proving that you have the rights to images when you've tried to upload them to Knowledge (XXG) or Wikimedia Commons. Again, this is tricky. It's also very much not my area of expertise, but if it's something you want to pursue further, feel free to tell me and I can connect you with another editor who might be able to help.
- I declined the draft article you submitted (Draft:Fergus O'Farrell) because it "read like an advertisement". Unfortunately I can't look back at the draft because it looks like you've had it deleted, so all I can do is refer you to this guideline about reliable sources and this policy about neutral point of view. I know that probably isn't as helpful as you'd like, and I apologize for that.
- Communication from Knowledge (XXG) has been slow and sometimes difficult to understand. Just about everyone here, including not only the editors but also the people running the OTRS email system, is a volunteer. We're doing this on our own time, unpaid, because for a wide variety of reasons we believe it's worth doing. I understand that this can sometimes lead to frustrating processes and outcomes, and again, I apologize for that.
- I hope I haven't missed any major points from your message, and that this response is at least somewhat helpful. If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to leave them here â I'm not online all the time, but I promise I'll respond eventually, and one or two people who keep an eye on my talk page might jump in as well. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 04:06, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi Ezlev
thankyou for your prompt reply
I completely understand the points you make but again I feel there is something not right behind the scences with this situtation I find myself in as I try to create a page for fergus o'farrell and also his band interference.
I most certainly did not delete the fergus o'farrell page, not intentionally nor by accident, I edited it as requested and re-submitted it for further approval. The response from 'someone' was to delete the page completely and say I did so. That is simply not true. I have now requested it be re-instated, we will see what happens but my guess is I will be completely ignored.
in relation to submitting the original text for the interference page with full copyright declaration etc. I did that and recieved confirmation that the text had been accepted but it still has not been re-instated on the interference page... I copy here the full email interaction between yourselves and myself.

- Marcmackdee, based on that last email it looks like they said the text could now be used in the article, not that it would be automatically added back. I think you'd need to do that yourself. You'd want to be mindful of avoiding promotional language, and like I mentioned earlier, you have a conflict of interest and should follow the COI guidelines. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 22:54, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Marcmackdee. The person who responded to your email said that there was a notation placed on the talk page of the article. But this was not actually ever done. Neither Draft talk:Fergus O'Farrell or Talk:Fergus O'Farrell exists and they have never existed. So it's unclear to me where they placed the details of the OTRS ticket giving permission. I am not an OTRS volunteer and do not have access to their email queue so I am unable to find out what went wrong. Regardless of the copyright issue, the band's own website is not a good source of information for a Knowledge (XXG) article, as it does nothing to establish notability, and it is not worded in an encyclopedic way. So it's of extremely limited use (or even no use) for the a Knowledge (XXG) article.â Diannaa (talk) 00:08, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Diannaa: I think they're referring to Talk:Interference (band), which indeed has had an OTRS ticket placed on it confirming use is allowed. Elli (talk | contribs) 00:11, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- Good, that's exactly what I was looking for. The revision deletion was reversed by a different admin on June 7. So that aspect is resolved. By the way the draft Draft:Fergus O'Farrell doesn't have any overlap with http://irishrockers.com/artistView.php?artist=Interference so the OTRS ticket is not needed on that page. â Diannaa (talk) 14:31, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Discontent Content Issue 5
Welcome, subscribers, to the fifth Discontent Content newsletter! Discontent Content is a newsletter aiming to collate and improve Knowledge (XXG) articles in need of more eyes and hands to get them in shape. Its unique trimodal structure allows editors to work where they feel comfortable -- with stubs and starts needing to be brought to standard, mid-quality articles with Good or Featured potential, or quality-assessed articles needing help to maintain their status. Articles in this category are those that need to be brought up to a minimum quality standard. Some will be stubs; others will be longer articles that nonetheless have significant concerns putting them far below B- or C-class adequacy. This issue's Category 1 articles are:
Articles in this category, while in better current shape than Category 1, are still missing something. They have the potential to be truly high-quality content, and may have been at one point. With work, they can be brought up to dizzying heights. This issue's Category 2 articles are:
Articles in this category have been assessed through a content review process in the past, but may require work to be brought up to current GA/FA standard. Editors can help bring them to a level where the star or plus near their names can once again shine. This issue's Category 3 articles are:
This issue's reader suggestion from Sennecaster:
One topic I've been broadly thinking about lately is the concept of GA sweeps. There hasn't been one in well over a decade; discussion of a new one is traditionally stymied by the sheer number of GAs that would need sweeping, considering there are over ten times as many as there were at the last sweep. Nonetheless, there's no dispute that many GAs don't really count as 99.5th percentile articles, or even decent-quality articles (whether one's own personal reading of WIAGA is closer to the former or the latter, and how different those things are, is an exercise for the reader). I've been brainstorming ideas, and I've been wondering if we can tackle the problem with limited-scope sweeps. One idea would be sweeping popular or vital articles -- those that get enough views to make up a significant proportion of the "GA experience" to readers. Another would be focusing on shorter GAs, which might trend towards a less in-depth treatment of the topic than could really justify the rating. There may very well be a path here to maintaining GA standards, and either of those would have the benefit that they might be more likely to encourage people to work on rather than simply delist articles -- popular topics with lots of interested parties willing to help, or smaller topics that don't seem like too big a challenge to pick up.

Discontent Content Issue 6
Welcome, subscribers, to the sixth Discontent Content newsletter!

After my prior thoughts on GA sweeps and their viability, work is beginning to break down what parts of the backlog can be tackled. Planning is beginning at User:Vaticidalprophet/GA reform and its talk; feel free to give your opinion, participate in current GARs, and assess articles. The current plan is to look at GAs with outstanding cleanup tags as our first priority. Sorry for the delay this time around -- I've been having A Month healthwise. I expect to maintain this at an approximately monthly schedule and will try not to let it slip further. I'm enthused by the work going on at GAR lately and hope to work something excellent out of it. |
