Feature: Weekly Collaboration

The VG Project Collaboration of the Week is a new effort to improve important video game articles of low quality. Every week, an article is random selected by AnomieBOT from the Stub-, Start-, and C-class categories that are rated either High- or Top-importance. Such topics can offer a reader a good deal of encyclopedic information about video games, but are often too underdeveloped or lacking the proper level of writing and sourcing to accomplish this.

All editors are welcome and encouraged to participate by offering their insights and suggestions. Having a pool of different editors, both old and new, will help maximize improvements to the articles as well as our editing skills.

History

Collaborative efforts have come and gone within the VG project several times before. The first such effort, the "Gaming collaboration of the week", began in October 2004 as a result of the several other weekly collaborations popping up on Knowledge (XXG). It proved to be quite successful at improving articles to meet Knowledge (XXG)'s standard at the time, but the effort eventually saw less and less participation. A second effort, the "Improvement Drive", began in August 2005 with the intent of improving articles to FA-quality. However, few nominations and articles were selected. The decline in participation in the collaborations and peer reviews resulted in a third effort. It began in February 2006 as a workshop, but never got off the ground.

Numerous discussions have taken place on at WT:VG to jump start collaborations and improve the process to prevent its decline again. While previous collaborations selected any video game article, most editors felt focus should be on video game topics more encyclopedic in nature—topics that are also generally in poor shape because of lack of attention. A common problem mentioned was that previous nomination processes were lengthy and hindered participation. The current idea to automate the process was brought up by JohnnyMrNinja, which was further discussed to iron out the details.

Current collaboration

The current collaborative efforts began in mid-January 2009, and several articles have been improved by editors. The random choice is intended to minimize the selection process, which allows editors to focus on article improvement. Improvements include better organization of content, massaging and copy editing the prose, removing excess non-free images, and much more. The random choice is also meant to encourage participation from editors of varying interest and help prevent burnout. If the present selection is not to your liking, wait until next week. Editors are encouraged to add Template:Collab-gaming to their watchlist to see which article is selected. Recently selected articles are:

• 15 - Total Nonstop Action Wrestling presents Destination X

• On March 1, Pro Wrestling Noah announced that they had signed a new television deal with Samurai Television.
• On March 2:

• World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced that they had signed an agreement with Fox Turkey to broadcast Friday Night SmackDown across Turkey.
• On Raw:

• Randy Orton announced that he would use his opportunity to challenge for a World Championship that he won at the Royal Rumble to face Triple H for his WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXV.
• Shawn Michaels defeated Vladimir Kozlov in a singles match to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXV, in the process ending the near-eleven-month undefeated streak of Kozlov in televised singles competition.
• Bill Watts was announced as the fifth inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2009.

• "The Boogeyman" Marty Wright was released from his WWE contract on March 4.
• On March 6, Sonjay Dutt officially announced his contract release from TNA.
• It was reported on March 7 that Kaleb O'Neal had been released from his WWE developmental contract.
• On March 9:

• "Ryan Braddock" Brad Bradley and "Kizarny" Nick Cvjetkovich were released from their WWE contracts.
• On Raw:

• John "Bradshaw" Layfield defeated WWE Intercontinental Champion CM Punk to win the title; this win also made Layfield the tenth Grand Slam Champion and twentieth Triple Crown Champion.
• Koko B. Ware was announced as the sixth inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2009.

• On March 13:

• Andrew "Test" Martin was found dead in his apartment in Tampa, Florida. His cause of death is currently unknown.
• Ric Flair made his Ring of Honor debut at a live event in St. Louis, Missouri.

• 19 - Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) presents Lockdown

• On March 15 at Destination X
  • A.J. Styles won the TNA Legends Championship by defeating defending champion Booker T, and by doing so becoming TNA's first ever Grand Slam Champion.
  • Suicide defeated defending TNA X Division Champion Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal in an Ultimate X match to win the title.
• On March 17:

• It was confirmed via WWE.com that The Von Erichs were the sixth inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2009.
• At a set of Friday Night SmackDown tapings:

• Montel Vontavious Porter defeated Shelton Benjamin to win the WWE United States Championship; this match aired on March 20.
• Gail Kim made her return to WWE by attacking Maryse and Michelle McCool; this segment aired on March 27.

• It was reported by a Nielsen Media Research ratings report that the March 19 broadcast of TNA Impact! earned a 1.34 television rating, the highest number the promotion has ever drawn.
• On March 21
  • Elizabeth Miklosi (Lizzy Valentine) announced that she had quit the Asistencia Asesoría y Administración promotion.
  • Ring of Honor aired their first television show, Ring of Honor Wrestling, on HDNet.
• On March 22:

• "Abismo Negro" Andrés González was found dead in a river in El Rosario, Mexico.
• Steve Doll died from heart and kidney failure caused by a blood clot in his lung.

• Howard Finkel was announced as the seventh inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2009 via WWE's official website.

1. Consider expanding an article from the project's list of stub articles and nominating it at Did You Know?. The project's goal is to have 100 total DYKs by the end of the year, and we are currently on 74.
2. Avoid using dirtsheets as sources. Adhere to WP:RS when adding information with a source to articles. For a list of reliable and unreliable wrestling-related sources see Knowledge (XXG):WikiProject Professional wrestling/Style guide#Sources.
3. When editing an article, use the edit summary to provide a brief summary of your edits; this helps users understand what was changed in the article.
4. All Knowledge (XXG) articles should be written from a neutral point-of-view, representing fairly, and as far as possible without bias, all significant views that have been published by reliable sources.

Reader Poll

The WikiProject Video games Newsletter released its first issue a year ago. The newsletter is meant to help connect editors, keep them up-to-date with the activities of the VG project, and improve the knowledge of our members. We've compiled a list of questions to help gauge the effectiveness of the newsletter's first year.

Answers will be accepted for a three week period following the deliver of the March 2009 issue on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Just to clarify, this is not an April Fools' Day gag, and we would really appreciate honest criticism. Information obtained from this poll is intend to alter the newsletter for the better. Feature: VG Barnstar

		The Video Game Barnstar
		The VG Barnstar is an award given to Wikipedians recognized for efforts and contributions to improve and develop video game related articles.

The VG Barnstar is one of many Knowledge (XXG) Barnstars designed to be given to editors that have helped further the overall quality of Knowledge (XXG). It was created in February 2006 by Jacoplane—see past discussion for details—and has been given to numerous editors since. Sometimes editors with multiple Barnstars use an alternative way to display them: ribbons.

Barnstars are designed to be given by anyone, so don't be shy as everyone enjoys appreciation. If you have noticed or have been impressed with the work of an editor, feel free to let them know by placing {{subst:Barnstar VG|"message" ~~~~}} on their talk page. The template uses a parameter to include a message expressing the reasons behind the award.

• 19 - Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) presents Lockdown
• 26 - World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) presents Backlash

• On April 1, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) announced that it had signed a television agreement with Cablevision to broadcast the very-first WWE pay-per-view in Mexico City: WrestleMania XXV.
• The April 2 episode of Impact! drew a Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) record attendance rating for the program, with 1.97 million viewers.
• Tazz's departure from WWE was confirmed on April 3, when his profile on the official website was moved to the alumni section.
• On April 4, Jerry Lynn won the ROH World Championship at Supercard of Honor IV, by defeating Nigel McGuinness.
• At WrestleMania XXV on April 5:

• WWE Tag Team Champions The Colóns (Carlito and Primo) defeated World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz in a tag team lumberjack match to unify both titles.
• Santino Marella, competing in drag as "Santina", won the 25 Diva battle royal to become the first Miss WrestleMania.
• Rey Mysterio defeated John Layfield to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and become the 21st WWE Triple Crown Champion. After the match, Layfield retired from wrestling.
• The Undertaker defeated Shawn Michaels to elevate his "WrestleMania winning streak" to 17-0.
• John Cena defeated Big Show and Edge in a triple threat match to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

• On the April 6 episode of Raw

• Vickie Guerrero announced her resignation as SmackDown general manager, and her permanent position as Raw general manager. It was later announced that Theodore Long would replace her on SmackDown, while Tiffany became the new interim ECW general manager.
• Batista made his WWE television return from a legitimate hamstring injury.

• Ayako Hamada announced on April 9 that she had signed a deal with TNA.

• At TNA's Slammiversary pay-per-view on June 21:
  • Beer Money, Inc. (Robert Roode and James Storm) defeated Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) to win the TNA World Tag Team Championship.
  • Kurt Angle won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship by defeating defending champion Mick Foley, Samoa Joe, Jeff Jarrett, and A.J. Styles in a King of the Mountain match.
• On June 22:
  • WWE Chairman Vince McMahon bought back the WWE Raw franchise from the storyline owner Donald Trump.
  • Matt Hardy suffered a torn abdominal muscle, and is scheduled for surgery.
  • Billy Red Lyons died from cancer at the age of 77.
• On June 24, it was announced that Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) would be releasing a video game in the United States entitled AAA El Videojuego.
• On June 25, Fuerza and Juventud Guerrera announced that they were starting their own promotion called Super X GPCW.
• At WWE's The Bash pay-per-view on June 27:

• Rey Mysterio defeated Chris Jericho in a Mask vs. Title match to keep his mask and win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
• Edge and Chris Jericho defeated Unified WWE Tag Team Champions The Colóns (Carlito and Primo) and The Legacy (Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes) in a Triple Threat tag team match to win the titles.
• Michelle McCool defeated Melina to win the WWE Women's Championship; she became the first Diva to hold the WWE Diva's and Women's Titles.

• It was announced on June 29 on WWE Raw that 15 wrestlers had been traded among the three WWE brands as a result of Donald Trump's storyline purchase.
• On June 30 on ECW on Sci Fi, four wrestlers made their debut for the ECW brand: Yoshi Tatsu, Tyler Reks, Sheamus and Abraham Washington.
• On July 1:

• Two midget professional wrestlers, La Parkita and Espectrito Jr, were killed in a hotel room in Mexico, allegedly overdosing on a drug used to spike their beverages.
• Dave Prazak announced that Serena Deeb had signed with WWE.

• On July 3, during a WWE live event in San Diego, California, Edge suffered a torn Achilles tendon while wrestling in a match. He underwent surgery on July 7, and will require rehabilitation which will sideline him from in-ring competition.
• On July 5, Waldo Von Erich (real name Wally Sieber) died at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario at the age of 75.
• On July 6, Prince Devitt and Ryusuke Taguchi defeated The Motor City Machineguns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.
• On July 7, Vampiro suffered four cracked vertebrae in his spine, and is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months.
• Eddie Fatu missed a scheduled autograph signing on July 9, after he was hospitalized with circulation problems in one of his legs.
• On July 11, Takashi Matsunaga, the founder of All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling died at the age of 73 from pneumonia.
• On July 13:
  • It was revealed that WWE had signed Nick Dinsmore to a contract.
  • Brian Lawler was jailed for 30 days after failing to attend an in-patient treatment center as part of his plea agreement, following his arrest for public intoxication on June 26.

1. Only add controversial, possibly contentious or libellous information if it comes from a reliable source and is verifiable.
2. Make sure that all information contained in biographies of living persons is written from a non-point of view perspective and is neutral.

1. Avoid using dirtsheets as sources. Adhere to WP:RS when adding information with a source to articles. For a list of reliable and unreliable wrestling-related sources see Knowledge (XXG):WikiProject Professional wrestling/Style guide#Sources.
2. If a sentence seems to be untrue or does not have a source, add a {{fact}} tag directly after it. In the case of biographies of living persons, if the material is contentious and either unsourced or poorly sourced, it should be removed immediately.
3. Please remember that fair use images and media can be only be used if no free equivalent is available or could be created. Fair use images uploaded when a free equivalent exists will be deleted.
4. If making a controversial change, or one that will affect a wide range of article, please gain consensus from the project first.
